Love them. I remember reading a few years ago of one that works in a salt mine in England. Either a 1474 or an 1884 (can't remember which). Still going strong and it's worth an absolute fortune

These tractors were great for the steep hill country in New Zealand . Set the wheels out wide and you have a good stable machine . Fantastic tractors for the time period .

1:18 yes back in there day they were amazing as there was nothing else to compete with them but once the small wheel tractors came along the big wheels quickly became extinct

The equivalent ford tractor with small front wheels will have more steering lock more ground clearance and as much traction or probably even more in most conditions so no wonder they never sold in large volumes but they definitely give a good illusion of performance
Couldn't say it better! For sure, there is a specific market for these type of tractors. Indeed they miss the "universal use" of a standard tractor, but nevertheless they look amazing (a very important factor, even just based on public perception). It fitted perfectly in a time of fast changing mechanical innovation/engineering. Also further developments were derived from this and other models.
more yes at the time they were the best option for heavy work as the only other 4 wd available was the zetor which was a great machine as well so as you say what they did at county led to machines we have today and no disrespect to them but technology is always advancing and they just wouldn't be practical to use against the modern tractors

@@donaldellis3609 I've worked in the same field as them and they definitely do not have the traction for holding back a loaded silage trailer on wet grass the county 1164 just slid off through the fence and luckily it Jack knifed and stopped so John deere 3140 very similar power if tractor just was totally in a different league on the same slope with same trailer so unless you have personal experience with the county and a small wheeled tractor I would say you need to consider your words as well
