He washes just as he drives lol impressive (Quake II voice) was thinking GR86 but this Corolla is the car for me. A personal little rally car that can go from the west coast to the east coast in any weather.

Thanks for covering the ride quality. I live a couple miles away from where you started off in the video, and as you know the roads in SE Michigan are in total disrepair. Been thinking about one of these as a daily/occasional autocross car (I have a dedicated track car), but I want something with a decent ride quality.

Man, headphones made this car even better. Sounds good. Sat it one at the Chicago auto show. Fits me and I'm 6'1 285lbs, so that was nice. Subaru wrx has my attention tho. Besides the brakes, it's a better car for me in VT. And loaded it's under 36k locally. Alright, Edit: I watched the full video, and now you've got me questioning everything. The handbrake turn on dirt made me smile ear to ear.
He did a handbrake turn in his WRX video too. I view the GRC vs WRX thing the same way as the Miata Club/Recaro vs BRZ. I'd rather have the GRC and Miata as my 2 car solution, but I don't think they're worth $10,000 more than the Subaru alternatives.
I collect cars and have a GR + 22 Wrx and a few other rally street specials. The GR Corolla is worth DOUBLE what the Wrx is. I’m a die hard STI collector and you’ve got to be a fool to think the WRX is 1/4 what this car is
Yeah I don't buy cars as investments. If Toyota continues to create artificial scarcity, then they'll probably be worth something. If they build enough to satisfy demand overal several years, they'll be worth less. Car values aren't about how good the cars are, they're about supply and demand.
This thing reminds me a lot of the philosophy of an Evo. Barebones interior, not very quality, nor segment winning, but almost all the money of the price goes into the power and drivetrain and driving it makes you forgot about the quality ! I want one of these in the future!

Man seeing these cars get hyped but marked up for damn near double the MSRP makes me really appreciate being able to buy my low mileage STI hatch when I had the chance.. I'd be sick if I waited for these to come out only to find the market to be like this
I feel that, I almost regretted buying 15 sti for 27k when I saw this come out. Not spending 70k+ on a 40k dollar car though no matter how good it may be
@@ktm125sxbeast for sure, and with the STI you won't lose much at all to depreciation. Paying markup you're guaranteed to lose money although maybe a lot of people buying these are rich enough to not care about that

so im a toyota tech and I've seen 2 of these come through our shop and wow they are so cool to see in person. me being somewhat new to driving a standard I do want one of these and from what I've heard from the other techs that have driven one is that it is so easy to drive. Now I may only be 18 but man do I want one of these

This car is very "Old Mazda" of Toyota. A nutty, compact and pretty quick hatchback. It will be interesting to see what aftermarket tuners and companies will be able to do with these.
Not much probably. 300hp out of a 3 cylinder stock is already pushing its limits. I don't see tuners pushing it past maybe 450 at most at high amounts of boost
@@al3jandr038 tuners have been able to push around 500+ whp in this car. At that range the headgaskets are the weak point. There also has been tuners who have pushed the engine to around 520 (if I remember correctly) and the crazy thing is that is under a stock bottom end for the most part!
@@al3jandr038 even still, 450HP is a lot! I'm sure in time there will be bolt on kits and tunes available to make it close to 500whp without having too many headaches. Not that most people would opt for that, but I'm sure there will be those with the money to spend and a desire to push these to their absolute max - safely and without blowing them up.
@@al3jandr038 This engine was originally developed for the WRC. I'd argue that it is over engineered.
@@JTube571 This isn't the engine from the WRC car. It wouldn't even be legal, since it's slightly over 1600cc. The only thing WRC about the GR Yaris is that it has 3 doors, which means Toyota can race with a 3-door hatch. The WRC+ and Hybrid cars are both 1600cc inline 4's, so it's not even using the same bore/stroke or cylinder count.

19:21 describes exactly how I feel about this car. The BRZ is really tempting but I think the GRC is just a bit better at being a daily usable car.

I actually own one of these and the loss of power u were experiencing was due to not having everything off, expert mode helps with all that and actually full disables any power loss and any assists. apart from that these cars handle amazingly

I live in this area! I go through that traffic circle on Pontiac trail and Territorial all the time when I drive to Ann arbor. Really a nice place to drive though I can't afford an exciting car. Hoping for a good winter so I can try to have some fun in my explorer!

@@ahtoomians I haven’t driven the GRC, but for AWD, better fuel economy on top of better performance and (I’ve been told) a better manual, I’d take the GRC, not to mention the 1-car practicality of something slightly bigger

The GR86 definitely needs turbo power, cause its way to capable of a chassis, it deserves more than 228HP. The 86 would be a beast with this engine, actually giving it some torque would be nice.

I have one without the diffs, I definitely would have loved to have them but without, still crazy fun and handles super well.
Without the diffs, It's basically like getting a WRX. But poss more reliable? Only the future will tell, but it's a Toyota through and through.
I have a question. Please someone correct me, don't flame me, I'm asking because I don't know. But are you having a tough time getting the back end loose because of how the AWD works, where even in 30/70, it's still fwd but allows UP to 70% to go to the back? Savagegeese had a bit with the engineer or something wherein it sounds like this is fwd and only during slip will it send -up to- the amount to the back. So I guess I'm just thinking that maybe because it's that configuration being primarily fwd, the back just isn't getting enough as you'd expect/want?
It’s awd all the time, 30/70 is just the torque distribution, it’s not fwd and then activates the rear wheels occasionally, it’s just the awd. The reason the rear doesn’t kick out is because while it is fun, it’s slow. The cars is all about grip and speed

Dealers in Puerto Rico are asking $55K, including the $7K cost for transportation to PR. Which means about a $10K dealer mark up. Its not too bad compared to other delears in the States but I cant justify spending $55K and getting a Corolla interior. Also they are readily available, no waiting list.
