Is lean fat same as fat? Essentially my question is, does chances of me losing fat reduces if I do more cardio vs. If I skip cardio and just do weight training.

  • JC, I'm so glad to hear you refer to weight training as a "skill", not often that you hear experts in the community use that language. It creates such as a massive shift in perspective and it's this idea of skill-building that's kept me consistent with my training. I have a question - from a "functional" point of view, what's your take on bench presses? It's great for aesthetics of course but doesn't seem to translate well to improvements in everyday movements. What alternative chest exercise would I do if I want both aesthetics and functional gains?

Then, when we are unable to lift heavy weight, why doea the gym trainer tells us to increase the sets or reps to gain strength and then lift heavy i.e. go for the time led adaptation?

  • Sir,In these past years I have seen many mathematical application in this fitness industry regarding diet and calories count and optimisation of energy magar mujhe ye nahi samjh me aata hai why still there is a void for physics application? Like if we benchpress 100kg , so energy burnt in 1 rep would be 100*9.8*(your arm length)Joules or if we deadlift 100 kg so energy burnt from that specif lifting would be 100*9.8* movement in that rod. I have seen some rough values given on fittr for exercises but not in depth detailing like we discuss our body science always

    • There are activity based calculations. We use MET values. MET values or metabolic equivalent differ from one person to another as not all individuals generate same amount of ATP. Infact it varies a lot depending on your age, weight, gender etc and that’s why it’s difficult to use one calculation and generalise it to everyone. METs are approximations too

    • Yes, pls understand that roughly 80% people in the world go through slipped discs at some point in their lives. Slipped disc doesn’t mean your back is broken, it’s just a lot of pain as your disc material touches one of your nerves. Overtime as you repeat the movements under supervision , the nerve roots become stronger and the pain goes away. The whole process can take between 12-18 months.
