well unless its a battleengi, then I'd say you do counter him cause without his buildings he is just a slower scout, still can kill but is out of his element. The danger shield doesnt stop a pyro from killing sniper but it is still countering his main role.

It works if you know what you're doing and why you're sapping. If I sap and intend to survive, it's because I am intending to delay the engie while the rest of his team is busy, preventing him from pushing his defense forward. If I sap and I am expecting to die, that's because I know my team is ready to push but needs the extra support to ensure that it is a successful push
right!? like, if you REALLY want to destroy a sentry, play soldier or demo. Kill that sentry from a distance and LIVE afterwords FOR SIGNIFICANTLY LESS EFFORT
@@poyloos4834 problem with soldier or demo sometimes is that they can lose to a sentry immediately if the Engineer knows a good spot that gets their sentry out of range. This wouldn't be much of a problem if it was one engineer, but if the enemy team has about 3-4 engineers, it's actually impossible to break through that defense because an engineer will be working on repairing the front sentry with assistance from the sentries at the back and hidden away, thus requiring a medic and good teamwork to pull through. Then the Pybros come in with their flamethrowers and push you away while their medics counter uber. Now it has gone from bad to worse. This isn't a rare scenario btw, this is a common one when the defending team is really desperate to win. This is where spy excels. Invisibility lets you get into their nest and feed your team info, or let you pull off a full deconstruction of the nest. The noise generated from constant fire helps you decloak..
It’s all fun and games until Uncle Dane uses scripts to destroy the dispenser while he’s dead because in his words: “no destruction points and f**k you.”

as an engie main I always C O N S O O M these spy vs engineer videos, no matter who's aimed for, because these two classes are SO GOOD WHEN PITTED AGAINST EACHOTHER. It's a nevereding plannification tango, both sides trying their dammed hardest to not become vulnerable to the other, using literally every tool they have in both their metaphorical and non-metaphorical arsenal to even the field.

10:49 This was genuinely, by far, the best guest appearance I have ever seen in a video. Period. There was a gimmick for years where the guest would "hack" into the host's video, give a canned line reading for their segment, then leave, but this is so fluid. The way Dane cuts into the "Spy has a gun" joke to talk about Engineer's combat capabilities, a favorite topic of his. The way both of you swap back and forth reading the script, explaining the situation from each class's perspective. The way each line flows into the next as one well written script read by two people. And how you finish off with in sync-disdain for Random Crits. It's so fucking perfect. Fantastic work.

You know what i really like about these videos? The fact that you can see the improvement in every direction, especially the animations/effects
Jokes on you I have a keybind to say "Dispenser down push last" that I use whenever I take out a dispenser.
Engi and Spy is basically the two sides of the same coin
All the engineer's buildings can also be taken advantage of by spy in some way. You can surf any sentry if you're advanced enough and the enemy team isn't immune to the level 3 rockets, dispensers are obviously support tools that can also be leverage to trickstab off of and teleporters can be the perfect traps and can also be jumped off of. Though aside from those points, it's unreal how well designed these two classes are in accordance with each other.
What do you mean by "the enemy team isn't immune to the level 3 rockets"? Sentry can not friendly fire anyone except its own engineer. Period. And even then, it's not just rockets, it's also the bullets.
As always, the Spy Psychologist nails it once again. Even if a Spy is my destined rival as an Engineer main, watching a video about fighting Engineer is still a fun experience.

One of my FAVORITE tricks is using the sound of the buildings upgrading or teleporter useage to mask the sound of my cloak watch.

Important thing I think you missed with the Frontier Justice: If the engie whiffs his shot, but still some pellets hit and you don't die instantly, the CRITICAL HIT! marker above your head stays visible even when cloaked, so don't overstay your welcome if the engie doesn't 1 tap you

I think you're underestimating the disepenser's importance. While it isnt usually the priority, there ARE definitely times when its the one thing keeping a team in the lead, such as when defending on last, where a large group of power classes are clustered around it. In these instances, the sentry is often located elsewhere as a last ditch defense and the teleporter isnt a factor. Its important to be aware that sometimes, that dispenser IS the thing keeping you from pushing, and taking it out at the perfect moment can completely disrupt the enemy team.
The “Understanding the tech” section starting with “electrodrome” as the music is amazing.
15:12 That's why i have a bind that says in team chat "SENTRY DOWN" , it's great when you see at least 1 teammate who had read chat and push to destroy all the remaining. Also , an additional strategy that can be really useful , is that if your team is really aggressive but can't do anything because of a weird placed sentry kept by a good engineer , you should know that the Enforcer is really powerful to destroy sapped sentry because it passes through the resistance given by the sapper , and the first hit deals a lot of damage. It can sometimes work to just focus so hard on the sentry that you destroy it faster than the engineer kills you.

This is overall a very good tutorial for Spy vs Engineer. Explains the mechanics and matchups that’s digestible for new players while being a refresher for older ones. I love how much effort you put into the graph design for this video too, it sells the feeling of the Hitman:James Bond analytical side of spy, which transitions into a mechanical gear motif for the engineer tool section. Amazing work all around for everyone involved in this project!
