The most frustrating thing is that The Chameleon *couldve* worked as a dark reflection of Po. She could’ve been an obsessive fan like him, but to a toxic degree where she just expects these masters to treat her as an equal with no effort put in just so she can play out her fantasies, and turn to sorcery when that idea inevitably flops. Every villain has some link to Po, whether that be a direct tie (such as Tai Lung and him with the status of Dragon Warrior, Shen directly genociding his people, and Kai basically being an Oogway who failed to end his power trip), and it’s a damn shame they didn’t do anything with Chameleon to include this link
The only consistent things between the canon and non-canon parts of the franchise is that if you rub oogway's instincts the wrong way your life is over

I just realized, Po used fireworks to get over that wall. That made him the dragon warrior. Shen’s family including himself makes and sells fireworks to people. Shen’s fate was sealed in multiple ways with two separate occasions he caused all before the second movie. That’s wild. Good writing.

According to production notes, they DID have an early pitch where Po envisions Shifu being kidnapped by the villain, further motivating him to go to Juniper City. And they even pitched an idea that Tai Lung has his final goodbye to Shifu. They HAD that idea, it just wasn't in the fucking movie smh
I usually complain about fans weaving conspiracy theories, but for once the crew have been weirdly frank about a ton of the questionable decisions for the movie coming directly from the overseer.
Oh it's worse, the execs explicitly ordered the production team to keep these concepts out of the movie under threat of canning the project altogether. They believed that making the movie shallow would make it more marketable and successful. I dunno about you gang, but I see another exec who's entirely divorced from reality ruining something else because he believes that he knows better than anyone else in the world and I'm gonna lose it. 🙃

I believe co-director Stephanie Stine actually talked about the behind the scenes of King Fu Panda 4, and that she was constantly belittled for having ideas that fans would clearly eat up because the writers thought themselves smarter than her (she put it in a much much nicer way). Which if true, makes me hope those same writers felt extremely embarrassed with how badly 4 flopped with the writing constantly criticized.
While the writing is…questionable, saying that it flopped is….wrong 500 million to a a budget of 85 million is great Not saying your wrong about the writing….

MAN your KFP4 rewrite is so much more compelling. Tai Lung coming to respect Po, redeem himself, and make up with Shifu alone is super interesting, but there's even more you could do with it! I mean, we never get to see if Tigress and Tai Lung have any opinions on one another being technically siblings. It would be really fun to examine that relationship a little once Tai Lung manages to reconnect with Shifu (and maybe we could finally address Shifu not being the greatest dad to Tigress, while we're at it. Tai Lung was clearly always his golden child, and now that he's back and Tigress never really got to talk things out with her dad, that probably stirs up some unpleasant feelings.) ALSO consider!! There could be a twist where it turns out redeemed!Tai Lung is the perfect candidate for Po's successor, thus kinda bringing him back around. He was Dragon Warrior material all along, he just had to better himself as a person, or something like that. I don't know if it would work exactly, but it'd sure be a hell of a lot more interesting than what we got.

I really do feel like Tigress and Tai Lung should have had the duo part instead of Po's dads. They could have been escaping from the chameleon by being in prisoned and it could allow those two characters to be able to talk over their thoughts of the dragon warrior and such and allow them to get more fleshed out. Sadly DreamWorks doesn't like to spend money and thought they could just get rid of the furious five and just bring back Tai Lung as a cameo so that's our reality I guess
