Today is my last chance to take the Halo M90 out for a fun day at the range...so why not make it the worst possible application for this sort of shotgun?

The UNSC military has the advantage of having the HUD tell them where they’re aiming instead of having to rely on the iron sights.
The HUD link is still secondary, irons and optics are the primary aiming system of UNSCDF personnel The sights aren’t modeled, except for halo 5 on the MA5 rifles; but as for lore, in _Halo: Contact Harvest_ there is a flip-up front and rear aperture on the triangular ammo counter housing.
Imagine all that technology is short circuited and then you suddenly can't aim.
@@aibadenshiThe guns do have backup iron sights much like we use if our optics go down. UNSC military just has all the advanced optics projected onto their HUD rather than physically mounted on the gun. If anything, I think that’s likely the next major paradigm shift for small arms. We aren’t going to come up with any better operating mechanisms in the next 100 years, but using augmented reality to aim rather than physical sights would be quite the boon.

@@gameragodzilla We're halfway there already with helmet IR tubes and weapon LAMs, but IMO moving the crosshair from one place to another doesn't seem like it'll change anything about infantry combat. The guns are already more accurate than the humans holding them and changing the sighting system won't make the humans fundamentally better at aiming under stress, so the logical next steps involve removing human error entirely. TrackingPoint and Smart Shooter are working on fire control systems that don't shoot until the computer is certain that the gun is pointing at the target, but they're still limited by the need for a human to do the pointing. The ultimate goal is the M56 Smartgun from Aliens which has a robot arm to aim itself and really only needs a human to carry it and give it permission to shoot, making that real would be a paradigm shift for infantry combat.

@@GarfieldEnjoyer1878as fun as it would be to play up the secret, I'll spill the beans on the 20y old game- one of the original Halo easter-eggs was the supposed existence of a hippo in the game. people scoured the game for this alleged hippo, which was found to be printed on the 8g shotgun shells. which could only briefly be seen when ejected from the shotgun, and then quickly zoomed in on once the hit the ground.
New sport - 'Combat Skeet'. Clays are launched *toward* the shooter at increasing speed and frequency. Those that hit him are subtracted from those that get hit by him to give a score. Shooters may wear any level of protection from woad to hockey keeper.
At one of the sporting clays courses I uses to shoot at, there was a trap that would throw the clays just a couple feet over the shooters head. It was always sketchy to shoot it late cause you would get hit by fragments. Watched one guy get hit the clay with only one pellet hit the clay and the large chunk sliced his cheek open. It was a fun target because it was just sketchy enough to be dangerous.
Unfortunately it's called drone skeet or Ukrainian skeet...

Armour protection would be calculated to the final score in a bell curve, the heavier the armour you decrease your multiplier due to lower risk of injury, the middle of the armour range you have a higher score multiplier as you have moderate damage risk, but move relatively freely, the lighter your armour, the score multiplier lowers again, as you have higher risk of injury, but you can aim much more effectively and accurately.

Those first 5 shots are just typical clay pigeon beginners luck. It always goes like that. Round 1 always goes surprisingly well, and then it goes downhill from there

@@sjambok1 Ummmn, just FYI, I am a Generation Jones Baby Boomer circa late 1950's, but I get what you're saying. It pisses off the purist O/U crowd when I use a Winchester 1300 in skeet loaded with 4 rounds at stations 1,2,6 and 7. Admittedly I shoot better with my Tri-Star O/U that was given to me my my friemd's father when he died, but it's not as much fun as the pump. Additionally, operating a 12 gauge pump proficiently could be a very useful life skill. My Stevens tactical is a cylinder bore. It's too open for skeet with me being a slow, boomer, old fart, but clays are a lot farther away than 0 to 21 feet. Shoot straight and be kind.

God the Library requires a special mindset to enjoy. The trick is to play on Heroic with the Famine skull on. It gets a lot more interesting in a survival horror sort of way when you have to actually worry about ammo (as opposed to having a ton of magnum and shotgun ammo)
For the ones that didn't get destroyed, Ian probably actually hit them. It's just that those were Elites and he didn't use a Plasma Pistol to take down their shields first 😄

We had to shoot skeet with riot guns at the police academy in the late 1980s. They didn't expect us to hit them (thankfully) but we had to combat re load them.
EVERYONE is forgetting one thing: All of the "HALO Univerce UNSC's" weapons are Electro-ignited (istead of trigger mechanism, used today...)

There's no denying the cool factor of this gun. Even if you don't play video games, you have to appreciate the way that this shotgun looks.
The Halo games had genuinely great art direction and it shows.

I like to imagine all the gun sights in the UNSC were primarily designed to be used in conjunction with an AR/Retinal HUD like we see in the games.
Most likely they're an afterthought/backup for in case the HUD fails or for users who don't have one (eg. rear line personnel, police forces, civilian market).

Remember to keep following the target as you pull the trigger & even after firing, Ian. I noticed you tended to stop swinging to follow the skeet as you pulled the trigger.

I always find, when people start missing several skeet in a row, it works well to tell people to keep the gun low. Only pulling it up once the skeet is in the air. You work off of instinct and hereditary skill to quickly raise, aim, and shoot and don't have time to overthink aiming the right lead and it works well to get hits going again.
Loved the skeet shooting! Just checked the collectible website and I noticed that they have two other listing's with another halo mug design featuring "OG halo shotgun" or a "digital collectible" and I was just wondering what this second option was, and also if these last two items also send proceeds to forgotten weapons. I'm not an expert but my dad was... your posture is too low, you should hold the right hand higher so when the pigeon is flying, that hand is already following it while you elevate the stock, you should just pivot the weapon around the right hand and take final aim when your cheek touches the stock. Hip position like yours is adecuate for tactical applications but not the classic skeet posture.

I had a Remington model 11 that I was trying to use to dove hunt and skeet shoot over a few years and never hit anything, so I figured I was terrible at it... Until one day I decided to run an assault type time trial course with her, and scored 97% hits. I was walking off the course when a range judge called me over and showed me the targets I had hit. Every one had a thin line of pellet impacts across the jaw and belt areas and nothing anywhere else on it. He then pointed at a miss I made, and I started to apologize for pulling the shot by 10 foot but he stopped me. He told me to go look at my spread, he has no idea why but every single shot I made was a dense donut. He said he has not seen anything like that, but wanted to let me know... I lost, but was so happy to have an excuse for not being able to hit any clay or real birds.
That’s weird that your spread was a donut, I wonder what could have caused that to happen? Though it was good of the range master to show you why you couldn’t hit any tiny targets with that gun. Safest place for any tiny thing was dead center of your aim.
@@Dwarg91 yep, if I had just done the exact thing that we learned not to do, and aimed directly at the birds, I would have hit most of them. I had a older gunsmith say it was something to do with the barrel and how shot passed out of the receiver into the barrel. I never had enough money, nor able to find a spare barrel to try and test it tho.

Taking the fantasy shotgun skeet shooting is less inappropriate then taking it duck hunting with more then three rounds in the magazine.

Many years ago in the fall of 1963 on Michigan ave across from Roosevelt University, Chicago, the Special forces had an exhibit of captured 'Vietcong' weapons and I got to talking with one of the soldiers there. A topic the soldier raised was sporting weapons vs military weapons. Few weapons are modeled on a sporting weapon and the MI carbine was; in fact there was an M1 Carbine there on there steroids that had the perfect dimensions to fire .351 WSL, but that is another story. The point being is that all of the WWII vets all spoke highly of just what a handy rifle the M1 carbine was and it was strongly influenced by winchester self loading rifles in .32 wsl. . For a 12 gauge shot if one was only interested killing what you saw for the first 3-6 shots, a commercial sporting gun would be superior to all of the fancy military and paramilitary guns out. For pump shotguns the old high standard pump was one of the smoothest pump action guns ever made. And for five shots armed with that high standard one so armed would be superior to any of the military shotguns.
It resembles the RMB-93, only it is made an order of magnitude better, although it has its own peculiarity, in the form of a movable trunk and threads on the trunk.

something I've been wondering for a while is whether an Ithaca 37 could be used to make the M45D variant. Never was able to find a reference for the internals, so I'm not sure if it relies on gravity to eject

Don't worry the suit and training that Chief has, kinda puts you at a disadvantage. It is pure muscle memory. Don't forget that Cortana is there to assist. The suit is ready to move before Chiefs muscles recieve the signal from the brain.

That round racking sound is just amazing. Better trigger design + lifting the sights up would mean this becomes a very, very decent shotty. Alas one that's illegal here in NZ due to it's current magazine size.
I find it weird that in 600 years they are still using gun powder.
I mean technically we have been using gunpowder since the 9th century so still using it in 600 years more isn't a stretch.
To be fair, they DO have things like laser cannons and railguns, but that kind of stuff is still really damn expensive and not worth arming everyone with.
After centuries of technological improvement, leading scientists and engineers have yet to solve the fundamental problem of "getting shot"

You're complaining about gunpowder when the UNSC also uses ridiculously massive double barreled rocket launchers, absurdly expensive spartan lasers, and EMP toggleable grenade launchers that are available to regular troopers.
Shooting anything especially something weird and unusual at the range beats whatever is going on at work any day!!
But the real question is, what type of strange, esoteric, and probably french skeet throwing device was being used? 🤔 And when will C&Rsenal make a video about it.
For some clarification, since I've seen several others bring it up, your average UNSC grunt has a HUD that assists with aiming but most guns have normal optics or back up sights. I forget which book states this, but the iirc the ammo counter and basically everything above the barrels of the ARs can be removed which reveals a set of iron sights. Also, prior to the covenant, the standard issue M90 was chambered in 12 guage, but at some point they were upped to 8 guage because the 8 guage ammo was powerful enough to peirce the armor on banshees and ghosts.
I took a vepr 12 skeet shooting. It was actually remarkably good.
Sure, you can't reload the shotgun as fast as the Chief can, but you can still carry more shells than he could in _Halo 3._
