  • "Death no longer terrifies men. The smell of blood is as common as the smell of white plums, so he creates slavery and savagery which surpasses the horrors of dying. These can only be fought with more bloodshed and the cycle never ends. My sword is guided by the reasoning of Hiten Mitsurugi, but when all is said, a sword is a tool for destruction not salvation. The only way I can retain my humanity is to bury its victims.” - Seijuro Hiko

    • @Tony Tran Every man is a beast of his own choosing. The difference is what he/she gonna do with the beast inside him? That is the concept of the nature of humanity in Hiten style and its difference with being a beast. The struggle to not let your carnal desire runs wild every time it wanted to unless it is needed to. You control the beast inside you, not the other way around. This story is about the struggle and walking a thin line between being human or being a beast. And Seijro Hiko use necessary violence (killing) for the sake of his own humanity, not others. While Kenshin as Battousai try to apply the Hiten principle through the eye of others i.e by killing one group of "evil" people, one group of "good" people can be saved and thus he can save humanity. But in the end, he is just another beast but with a leash. Hiten is to protect your own self physically (and to a small extend other people in need) and humanity in the time when being a beast is more convenient and easy than being human. That is why both Hiko and Kenshin did not pass down the philosophy of hiten to others. That is no more need for humanity through necessary violence (killing). It is a personal moral philosophy in time when social moral order is difficult to be implemented. By that logic Hiko inner peace is he accept this personal moral philosophy. I am not sure if Hiko wanted to achieve goodhood but he he is perserving his sense of humanity.

    • Almost everything Hiko says is very deep and philosophical. I hate when in tv or books they present a character as a wise man or master and just expect us to believe it. Hiko wa supposed to be Kenshin teacher and swordsman yet he is wise. "It is foolish to listen to one who will not listen to you. Do as you wish." - it helped me in my adult life xD

Leave it aside in order that ye may succeed. Satan’s plan is to stir up hostility and hatred between you with intoxicants and gambling and to prevent you from remembering Allah and praying. • Rurouni Kenshin story was actually based on the history of Kawakami Gensai (1834-1872). He was one of the four most notable assassins aka hitokiri battousai of the Bakumatsu period. Hiten mitsurugi ryu technique created by Seijuro Hiko in Rurouni Kenshin was also the same as the technique owned by Kawakami Gensai, where he leaned on the right leg and lowered the other leg with knee almost touched the ground. When I watched Samurai X first time in 1996, I knew this anime must have a historical story behind it, not only an anime.

    • While it's true that Kenshin was based off Kawakami Gensai, I get the feeling that you meant Kenshin was basically a historically true animated adaptation of Kawakami's life from your use of "based on the history of..." If that were the case, we'd see Kenshin enjoy tea ceremonies and get executed by beheading among other things that were vastly different. I believe Kenshin was just generally based off Gensai's life. Also, assassins were known as "hitokiri," not "hitokiri battousai." The latter name was Kenshin's alone due to his expertise in battoujutsu. Additionally, Kawakami practiced "Shiranui Ryu," of which Hiten Mitsuruigi was based, but that doesn't mean they're the same technique. Lastly, if I remember correctly, Seijuro Hiko didn't invent Hiten Mitsurugi. I may be off by a generation, but wasn't he the 12th master in a long line of Mitsurugi users? Kenshin technically became the 13th when he defeated Hiko Seijuro when learning the Ougi.

- Kenshin: Las personas sufren frente a mis ojos.

  • Most of us are blessed to live in a time where war only happens in some places and we don't have to kill anyone to survive. Kenshin It's just an example of what happens to a good-hearted person when they are born into a tumultuous and difficult time. May we find a time when will end all wars and suffering around the World.

  • Translated with the incorrect name "in memories", the real name is kotowari "理", that means reason, the logic or truth behind something. It may refer to the reason Kenshin keeps fighting or the reason he became a ronin. Even the reason of the scar. But in fact it refers to the discussion with Hiko, when he explains the truth of the sword, saying that the kotowari is "The sword is an instrument of horror, kenjutsu is the art of killing, we kill ones for others to live". Kenshin realized that during the assassinations but by the end of the film he understood the truth as Tomoe give her live for him to live. A tragic truth fitting the tragic music.

  • They remade this in live action. Didn’t come close to the ova’s. Maybe it’s cause I already saw this. But the live action didn’t build up the tone and atmosphere as much. Plus they took out the parts with Sejiro… so they took out part of the philosophical aspect of this story. I feel like his dialogue weighing into everything going on plus his opening speech helped bring you into the movie more.

  • The end of ruroni kenshin Tsuikohen is the a epic scene that reflect some rare moment where people receive some truth and see the illusion they have been on . They leave that illusion for the better and the good. This song is the catalyst of that. Indeed the note represent the feeling associated with the departure : Determination at the beginning, Sadness at the mid way due to the past memories, and ultimate effort truth received / and it's acknowledgement.

  • This piece of music creates an uncomfortable atmosphere as it goes. The tragic conversion of a sweet, innocent child to an assassin with little to no understanding of what life’ is. Then the assassin turned into someone who finally felt and understood the desolation that only death could bring. It is through undergoing the very process which made him human, and in the end, he swore to no longer kill because he already did learn the value of life - through Tomoe’s love and companionship. She undid the curse, and now he has to live by giving meaning to it.
