I'm 46 minutes into a 50-minute video and they FINALLY mention Okinawa
Yeah for real. It's just stuff I've heard a million times. I was hoping to hear some 1st hand accounts and more details of the battle.
I mean it was a pointless attack lol
They mentioned Okinawa before 1:30 mark
Okinawa and Iwo Jima were truly worthless and pointless battles. The first and only long range heavy bomber mission from Okinawa against mainland Japan was on the final day of WWII, August 15! What a worthless waste of lives and time Okinawa was. They should have blockaded it like what happened with Rabaul and Truk. At least the Philippines 1944-45 were justified because that was actual U.S. territory and the lives of Filipino civilians were the responsibility of the USA throughout WWII. Iwo Jima was a waste of lives also. The escort fighters only operated for about TWO WEEKS in March 1945 and then they were cancelled forever because they realized that the fighters can't handle the power and speed and altitude of B-29s and they ended up being more likely to be lost through accidents than B-29s and the airfield at Iwo Jima turned out to be very poor for fighters. The Navy could not use Iwo Jima because there was nowhere where they could dock on Iwo Jima. We got a nice photograph from Iwo Jima. So strange how Nimitz never ever gets criticized for being the meatgrinder he was.
Agreed, I wanted to watch one of their videos about the Eastern Front and just like this one, it’s merely a compilation of battles with each about 15 minutes.
Great vid! Just a few things: -Was wondering if you could squeeze more ads in. It got annoying waiting for a whole 45 seconds before the next Candy Crush expose would play. -I'm glad that I didn't expect a doc about Okinawa when I clicked on this, but instead thought, "I hope this is just a broad overview of major and not so major conflicts of WW2", or else I would've been very disappointed!
haha spot on
Right? If I wanted to watch about Monty I would have clicked on the Desert Fox. I saw an Ocha, Lord I hope I spelled that right, and wanted to see tat
imagine watching youtube in 2020 without adblock installed
@@SenatorBanana I they might just be old and not know any better.
Sounds like you want more ads in your viewing
Thanks Timeline for sharing all the new content lately. It's definitely helping me stay entertained during this Covid-19 pandemic & also helps keep things in perspective.
I swear, KZhead and COVID-19 were a match made in heaven 😂
Nice
This Channel is an oasis in the desert of KZhead content for history lovers💥💥🎞
I was gunna say something about this being not a bit about Okinawa, but everyone else beat me to it
Thank you so much for uploading this video. It is helping me get through the pandemic!
Only thing wrong here is the title. Might I suggest "A Random Synopsis of WWII - Battles Won And Lost - Timeline"
The titles are never correct.
35:50 the dude is so happy that he finally got to win something :D
The inaccuracies in the Battle of The Atlantic segment do not inspire me that the rest are any more accurate. The major problem in the early days of this battle was that the Allies seem to have forgotten all the lessons of WWI. The convoy system was NOT implemented straight away, causing the loss of many vessels. The navy did not want to provide vessels and when they did the initial tactic was to chase down any suspected contact depriving the convoys of their escort allowing a very small number of U Boats to claim catastrophic amounts of shipping. This programs suggests that the convoy system was fully implemented from day one. This is BS. Do you own research. Try reading the Battle Of the Atlantic by Jonathan Dimbleby
This has nothing to do with the battle of Okinawa....
It starts at 40:45.
Watch it til the end...
This has "very little" to do with the battle of Okinawa.

I was thinking that myself.
This is great video. Thanks !!!
Nimitz: “The Japanese made three of the biggest mistakes an attack force could ever make, or God was taking care of America.”
That's exactly right
"The Bismark , Graf Spee, Scharnhorst & Tirpitz were picked off by the Royal Navy" ?. I think the RAF might be a bit miffed by that statement, unless the RN were operating Lancaster bombers, the day the Tirpitz was sunk. Whilst all the points for Scharnhorst should go to the RN, technically the captain scuttled it, when it really should have escaped the river Plate.
Nice video and the guys at the map adds some drama to otherwise straight forward documentary
WAY WAY TO MANY COMMERCIALS ON SUCH A GOOD DOCUMENTARY
STEVE SRAN Too right!
That's why I pay for KZhead.
You are correct !

Reason the Japanese didnt stay in the area was not knowing where the american carriers were.. They were their primary target.. Because of this failure Japan would loose all 4 carriers taking part in 8 months at Midway..By the end of the war Japan had built 6 more carriers, the U.S. built 14 and the planes to fly from them..
My Dad was at Hickam.....the destruction was very complete in the Harbor. After that he was on almost every island leading to Japan building runways to get us there.
@jesse caldwell Dad built the runways on those islands and spoke only of the aircraft, never the war. Was the P-61 a version of the P-38 or am I thinking of some other aircraft?
I like these videos but the intro is long enough that I can actually go out and start a war and finish it before the intro is over with
😂😂😂😂😂😂 Good one
😆
🤣🤣🤣🤣
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
😆😆😆😆🙄🙄
I love how they show a TBM Avenger dropping a Torpedo on the Arizona.
The battle of Okinawa is just a small bit at the end with little detail.
Your channel has a lot of ads, more than most other channels, are things that tough ?
It’s so intriguing video. 👍👍😎
The two guy in the map room are gold. Lol.
Pearl Harbor, Eastern Front, El-Almaine. When do we get to Okinawa?
@Winfred Roman Are the people that work at the asylum treating you well in there?
That's in the next episode, titled "the Vietnam War" haha

The first battle lost by the Japanese was in China but the Australians and US forces at Milne bay, the most easterly point of the huge island of New Guinea. From then they slowly won all the island. The Australians did the same to the slightly smaller island of Borneo. Finishing the war with no losses and a long string of humiliating victories against the Imperial Forces of Japan.
These comments are gold
Somebody drunk at the switch: this video has the wrong label on it. Okinawa appears for a very few minutes out of all the other stuff about Japan in South East Asia.
Just so everyone knows, Yamamoto did not say that awaken the sleeping giant quote.... just cause Hollywood put it in Tora Tora surely doesn't make true.
and then 40 mins in, Okinawa...
The Swastika and the Rising Sun have never been so clear and identifiable, very glad to see such a concise picture of opposing armies - brilliant acting by each Commander, same with the research and detail put into the uniforms ! George Cross looked a bit lopsided though. Sloppy 👎
Yamamoto did not say the thing about the sleeping giant. That line was written for the movie "Tora Tora Tora!" in 1970. And...I thought this was about Okinawa?
The two Gods playing the board game didn't make things clearer for me, BUT this is a great series.
I didn’t know there were other worshippers of the two Gods who run the board. I’ve been following for years! Haha jk
Hindsight is always the winning statement
Japan failed so much because their idea of good strategy wasnt to plan for possible american moves they just assumed 1 possibility. They didnt have back up plans and just would simply put say if we do this theyll do that. Also the zeros seen in movie midway shouldnt be there. A6M's disnt see action in midway as US war was seen as secondary campaign to Japanese and A5M's were what were used most
Let's be honest shall we? The decision to drop the two nuclear bombs on Japan had nothing whatsoever to do with "saving lives". The emperor could have come on his hands and knees to Pottsdam and the US would have pretended not to see him. There was no way they were going to miss the chance to demonstrate their nuclear bombs. Japan was already beaten and it would not even have been necessary to invade the home islands to secure surrender, just knock out the electricity, the trains, the port facilities etc and wait for the government to collapse. The real reason why the US wanted to drop the bombs was to establish themselves as the incontestable major military power in the postwar world. Much like the much later PNAC plan to establish "a new American century" that led to 911, the invasions (or attacks) of Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Syria, Pakistan, (and others). The Truman administration wanted to use its position of military superiority to rule the world. But then when Russia got the bomb much sooner than expected that dream fizzled. Seems like world peace thrives much better when military power is fairly evenly distributed around the globe and diminishes when power is concentrated in too few hands.
My father fought on Okinawa, 7th ID. He rarely spoke about it.
Hes probly spoke of it more then this video did lol
Waking a sleeping giant was an understatement... they awoke a sleeping TITAN!
Stoney ya Blazed Homie 🇺🇸
And we got revenge.
please tackle Brave Filipino Guirillas during worldwar 2 and the journey of Philippine Expeditionay Force To Korea during Korean war specially the Battle Of Yultong. pls
And we are still eager for another bloodsheds 😢
Politics....
At 43:25 they show a post-war atomic-bomb test during a sequence about Kamikaze tactics.
I thought this was supposed to be about Okinawa?
Same here
Am I the only one that has 500 ads on this video?
no ! Your not alone !
There was a ad? With adblocker have not seen a ad on KZhead in 5 years.
Boomers dont know how to use youtube 😂
Any particular reason why this video is blocked in Australia? I mean, I just vpn'd it, so it doesn't matter, but it also doesn't make much sense.
u sure this isnt the pearl harbour attack ….!
Some of these comments make me wonder if the writer actually went to school.
I’m 11mins in and I haven’t heard okinawa once
Not only is this not about the Battle Of Okinawa, the "Australian" specialist on before The section we all came for, is actually South African
I don't know why the entire island of Okinawa had to be taken, a third of the island would have been sufficient to run our air bases while the other half of the island starved.
General Artillery says that you are wrong.
They would have snuck in mortars and jp would have tried resupply. My father was there 7th of 1st and the USMC did not want to hit island that big. He detested MC A and thought any atack of the Philippines was dumb but for the smallest usable island.
37 minutes into a 49 minute video about the Battle of Okinawa and they haven't even mentioned Okinawa. I'm out.
I be damn i thought this was only about the battel of Okinawa
Love the title: ‘The Battle of Okinawa.’ Right. The last eight minutes are a bit about it. I call this ‘misleading.’
Sometimes you think leaders are smart. How someone can think knocking out the Amerca Pacific fleet will make them raise their hands and sue for peace beats me. When leaders wants something, they're make up any story to justify their selfish goals.
A good documentary, but with a wrong title.
Battle okinawa starts at 40:49. What a joke
It's ridiculous to show a nuclear explosion in relation to a kamikaze attack. The kamikaze plane attack at 43:25 has nothing at all to do with the nuclear explosion shown one second later.
Sweet f/a about okinawa.
Just as the troops are attacking Okinawa the video ends! Whats up with that!!!
You forget that the Australians fighting along the coast road were relieved by their comrades, the New Zealanders, helping emvigerate the assault.
The guys moving these battle pieces on the map... Are you really disappointed you lost if ur representing Germany or Japan??
I clicked b/c of the Ohka.
Baka
Gidday, what would the USA have done if the Japanese had only attacked the British and Dutch? American citizens were still isolationist. It was a risk but it would have achieved Japanese aims without attacking the US.
The US and Japan was inevitable IMO. Roosevelt did everything that he could without congress and the people's support to prepare for war.
Was this all Japan can do and capacity?
Battle of Okinawa? What? This is all over the place.
Last 9 minutes are about Okinawa
Battle of Okinawa? 7 minutes out of 48?
Perhaps tittle these correctly.
Mu Uncle as a marine was wounded at Tarawa...
nunya beeswax post his name and rank if possible he’s a hero he deserves recognition thanks 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
They only discuss Okinawa for the last five minutes, lol.
The number of ads in this .....unacceptable worse than early tv would love to watch this but can't do it I know they want ya to buy premium but come on
well it got better good thing i can't type fast lol
@@ivywong8116 There was a ad? With adblocker have not seen a ad on KZhead in 5 years.
At 5:15 the sneaky Japanese time traveled a few years ahead, stole a TBF Avenger and attacked in Pear Harbour. No one knew about this until 1977 when Close Encounters of the Third Kind was made and Steven Spielberg found the Avengers after they came back from the Bermuda Triangle.
13 commercials in 49 min...
ever heard of adblock?
40:46
When u have a bad day on a game of checkers
I can see if your order
So Monty had more and healthier men, more and better equipment, (brand new model tanks never seen before for example), more planes, better intelligence including ULTRA, shorter and better supply lines, better naval support, and still was blocked but eventually plowed through using almost WWI tactics (artillery barrage followed by mass infantry assault on heavily manned fixed postions) That guy is so overrated.
Skip to the end and restart. Enjoy!

Okinawa????
How very different might the world be if the Japanese decided not to poke that hornets nest at Pearl Harbour. It not only brought America into the war but made them into the military obsessive they are today.
The War Began when Japan attack Kota Bahru British Malaya 2 hours before attacking Perl Harbor.
I was bambloozed by the tittle AGAIN
There should be english sub titles pl
many of your video titles are wrong...what's up?...
Way too many add sim out
BANZAI
These documentaries must have mixed up it has nothing to do with Japan
Putting out a video about Okinawa then not even mentioning Okinawa kinda makes this "click bait"...
Sorry but Mountbatten couldn't organize a lemonade stand. Canadian lives were cheaper than French of German
I've watched a lot of timelines. I hope that silly map board was retired. I found it unnecessary and ridiculous. Either I zoned out and fast forward past it or I haven't seem it in all videos.
"When do we get to the fireworks factory?!"
Uh......
www.combinedfleet.com/economic.htm 5 Japans were not beating the US. What was Japan thinking.
What"s in a name?
At 20:00 let's check the wrong comment about Horrocks troops overran opposite Italian formations. All reports and histories about the battle told about Folgore (parachutist division) and other troops (included the grenadiers battalion were my Dad fought) hold the line along all the battle; they retread only after an order came (quite late indeed), but they haven't been overrun by anyone.
There was 3 waves.
Not 2
All done by design.
