The test is a HUGE disservice to Jaguar & Porsche. Jaguar would've won On-road Comfort test, BUT was eliminated too early. Porsche would've won Race Track test, BUT was eliminated too early. (The "T" stands for Track; of course it would lose the comfort test!) IMO, this video competition has zero validity.
These "elimination" tests are terrible. It's just to put the tests in the order you want to get the chosen result. Only way you can't get a specific car to win is that it's worst in all categories. Not to mention the "one off" chance, just look at the mediocre launch of the Cayman. Do it properly like use best out of three runs with each car.

I'm a big fan of the Audi, but have to say the Cayman was knobbled in the testing. Like Matt Watson (Carwow) trying to show us the Jeep Rubicon (probably the best off-road vehicle on the planet) could not get up the test hill, but the Jimny could LOL

Tylor Moodley Yeah, but it doesn’t make sense to do a track test and already have the track focused car eliminated because it’s not as good on the road... If they actually were fair they would test all cars for all the categories and then give results. And also allow the track focused car to show it‘s strengths...
Can we get a redo of this test please. We are not pleased with it and believe all the cars could have shown the abilities in different tests if given the chance.
I suspect they did the tests in that order knowing the result since the Cayman obviously is the best on track so it makes the last contest a little more fair. Nobody is realistically going to pick a car based on the result of this test and it's fair to say that the Cayman T isn't as comfy on the road.
Are you kidding me? You use a cell phone for taking the time? And then you talk about 10th of seconds? I think that Fifth Gear should be able to afford a Racelogic V-Box or similar. Those reviews are just worthless!
Don't forget about using different drivers for different vehicles. Ridiculous.

When one car is half a second slower than the other, why would you need to measure to the hundredth or better?
@@iamtherealzombie Because you don't know if it was a half a second faster or slower. Reaction time from the person and the phones touch screen can be easily over a half second!

If you bring in BMW M40 and Audi TTRS, why do you compare them against the normal 718 Cayman? You should have compared them against 718 Cayman S or GTS. This is a very invalid test👎
Because it's based on cost, a ~50 grand test
And without a PDK I might add! You literally picked the slowest possible Porsche they make.

They picked the 4 cars with the most comparative price, a specced up gts or f type s could have been north of 70k
@@anthonybariek997 new 2019 jaguar f type V6 340bhp is 50k .a V6s is about 60k .they should have had the base V6 for 50k .
Tiff would have had that Z4 sideways the whole lap then slammed the TT for understeer. I miss Tiff

I never liked these "elimination" tests. There should be a points system for each test and whichever car gets the most total points at the end should be the winner.
I agree, the test was rigged to eliminate the Porsche because everyone knows it kicks ass on the track. Cowards.
If they tested the BMW M40i American version 382 HP it probably would have won the track test as well. Amazing car.

Normally I wouldn't agree with this test, but because I just bought the z4 M40i..I will.. Awesome car.
Regardless of your dubious testing protocols and conclusions, I prefer the Jag experience over all the others, so I bought one

Technically changing anything makes it not the same... Tiff was great though, but Plato is good too. Should have kept both.

Looks/Design/Heritage - F-Type Handling/performance/prestige - Cayman Nice to drive/sporty/fun - BMW Good for the price/Technically efficient/kind of practical - Audi
Would it not be best to subject all vehicles to the same tests and the give the best overall combined score? The Jag, while not fast in a straight line could have fared better on a road test. Same for the Porsche, this could maybe have done better on a track.
the tt rs was a serious contender in the group, so the final outcome is well deserved, but it's laughable how they chose the track focused cayman t and eliminate it on a road comfy test!
Interesting Review - Loved talking about the BMW 6 cylinder engine - However the TTRS 5 cylinder is a mighty beast :)
Those Z4 looks great on the roads! It’s what I’d go with!
Bring back Tiff and for god sakes stop the eliminations.you wait till the best track car is eliminated then go on the track....why bother🤷🏼♂️
Great test! Would be really interesting seeing these versus something comparable in motorcycle way, Middleweight NAKED bikes for example, you would definitely get some new viewers from the fast growing motorcycle community. BMW F 900 R / Ducati 821 Monster / Yamaha MT09 / Kawasaki Z900 / KTM890 DUKE / Triumph Street Triple / MV Agusta Brutale / Ducati Streetfighter V4 S etc... Cheers!
Let's compare time around a track and use 2 different drivers. That's some serious comparison...
When other one is former F1 driver,he would drive much faster lap with Audi.

As a TT RS owner I'm not surprised at the out come. Even though my steering wheel is on the wrong side. Freeing up the induction and exhaust really wakes it up for just being bolt ons. I found that backing up the entry to a corner and aggressive throttle as it rotates the center of the appex is the way to track the car. Understear is there but it's easier to point the car on exit without fighting the wheel. Great show, great reviews. Wishing you all the best from Texas.
I agree you cannot drive a quattro like a RWD and expect no understeer. It's a completely different technique but neither seem understand that.
You need to use the F-Type S or R in this comparison. Not the base 4 pot.

I had the original TT 225 HP. I was driving during the winter with 4 winter tires on the car. I pulled up beside a police car. The light turned green I took off quite quickly and was pulled over by the cop. He wanted to know why I was driving so fast. I told him I wasn't speeding. He gave me my licence back then followed me 5 or 6 km to the highway and let me go. That was a great car with an incredible interior. I miss that car.
I love the Cayman. Although they should have gotten the Cayman GTS to compete with this group. I love the proper manual transmission of the Porsche. Unfortunatly none of the others have manuals. Thanks.

Very strange way of testing the automobiles via elimination. Wouldn’t it make more sense to give them a score based on each category? Regardless reality is one will buy each one of those vehicles on their look, drivers feel, comfort, performance and features and price. Is it your main car, second car, sunday afternoon car? So many factors are at play. For the sunday afternoon car, i would take the beemer, for fun i would have the cayman and if it was my everyday driver i would take the TT. Just my opinion!

All very nice cars. It's a shame there aren't many lightweight sports cars these days which I find more fun. We have the MX5 (Fiat 124) and the Elise. Am I missing one that's on sale today? Topless not hard.

They got it all wrong what you want is that Porsche with the flat 6! second to that Z4 M40i. The looks of the Audi just puts me off it no matter how good or not it might be.
The Audi is really an older design nowadays compared to the others

People of Fifth Gear, do you test cars to have some fun with cars yourselves or to inform the viewers? The reason I ask this question is because this test is imho a disappointing approach to what is `the best' sports car of this foursome. We don't buy cars like these to race them on a circuit, we want them to be entertaining on the road. The car with the highest top speed and/or the fastest acceleration is not necessarily the most entertaining to drive. Chances are that the Jaguar turns out to be te most desireble car of this quartet and you'll immediately ignore it. Unfortunately.
Get a specialist timing gear from Matt Watson.. Timing thru cellphone is outdated in accurate
3 nice looking German cars. As good as they looked, the F type blew them away! For my money: Jaguar.
German cars have become incredibly "samey" and tired, imo; everyone has one and they all look the same.
Scary moment at 13:28 when you are cornering hard and focused and then there's a bug on your chest.
Why are you using a stop watch? You could use a draggy or other gps reader for more accuracy
Not surprised the TT RS is the best all rounder, because it is. The Cayman is a true drivers car though and anyone can appreciate that.

Porsche and Jag with 2.0T engines are no match in terms of engine for BMW and Audi in the test.
They managed to find a sunny day in UK but they couldn't find the 2L versions of all cars somehow
They picked the versions that are most closely matched on price.
2L version of the BMW would be in the 40k, not 50k.
So I watched test and still haven't seen jag interior bcs you eliminated luxury car on drag race. Unnecessary

Two car guys give a barbershop review of three purpose built cars. I have a 718CS and Audi RS5 V8. Getting out of the RS5 and jumping in the Cayman makes you feel like you just jumped on a chainsaw running at full throttle but, you are out to chop some trees no spread butter on your morning crumpet, I don't see any problem. Please learn how to use tolls, don't spread butter with a chainsaw. Still, I do question where your bread is getting buttered. You are both much better than all that.

I would get the F-Type every day of the week. The prettiest there by far. Though this comparison video is just dumb lol.

I love 5th gear but hate the elimination comparisons. Should just point score and have an overall winner of all tests.
Owned one, super quick in a straight line and sounds amazing but dull and soulless so I sold it
As a fun road car, from these choices, I would choose the Z4 everyday of the week. BMW have made a cracking car.
Modern BMWs are ridiculous drivable smart devices
So, the best of the 4 is TT. But VW already announced the entire TT line is following the destiny of dinosaurs and walk into sunset after 2020 fiscal year. Food for thought. Maybe the runner up Z4 is the better champ in terms of value/performance than TT.

The supercharged V6 340 and 380HP models are very capable.
@@ScottSmithPhotos I know I sold my V6 to buy my V8. There are plenty of capable cars, but there are not plenty of Jags. The F-Type should have been a 12.
Some of us actually prefer the 4-pot; lighter, better overall handling
@@r.mtn.7477 I hear that a lot about the V6, too. But people haven’t actually driven both. For one thing, the RWD V8 is lighter than the V6. The main advantage of the V8 is detuning from the factory can easily be reversed for a casual 700HP.
Why dont we see this on Channel5 on TV hence 5th gear - as it used to be!

100 is well above the world average, the UK average is 102. This was 80 IQ.
Highly competitive sector? It’s probably the least competitive of any sector. 4 options, when other sectors often have a dozen. And then eliminating the Porsche before the track test makes no sense at all. Also you’re comparing the m40i which is the highest trim version against the F Type and Boxster base options which isn’t really fair. The Z4 is also a convertible which makes it not really a part of this sector, the Supra would have been a better choice. I know it’s loosely based on price and the fact that the cars are German, but those really aren’t the best factors to use.
So you don't test all the cars on all parameters and kick them out as the order of the test. I wonder who will win if the tests order were changed
Think you got the wrong Cayman for this comparison... Cayman GTS 4.0 would have been a much better choice.. Cayman T is meant for the track and got eliminated before that test
we should need more cheaper roadsters with small engines like the mx5 in europe. maybe shake up the market

A rather unfortunate sequence of tests... one does wonder what the motivation for it is because I know enough about journalism to know that it wasn't an accident and that the tests were not even necessarily even done in the order the clip shows them in... Overall I do think the TT RS is the best car of that bunch in that segment. And I say that not because I bought a TT, but I bought a TT because I also came to that conclusion. The BMW is more fun in many situations. It truly is an awesome car. But while the BMW might provide some extra bonus fun in very specific situations, the TT will always perform well, even in really bad weather, thanks to its 4WD. And whilst the 4WD in the TT RS might not be a "proper Quattro" with only max 50% of the power going to the rear, I can get that b*tch sideways in corners when I want to. You can soften the suspension, which actually yields you very noticeably better "on-road" performance (at the cost of track performance) and you'd be amazed at how fast you can throw that car into a corner. I still love BMW though... if you want to kick our the rear end, it's just damn hard to top a RWD beamer with a straight-6... if BMW could find a way to put X-Drive on (more of) their sports cars... I think it'd help them in that segment.
No offense to the ex formula onr racer but he doesn't come close to Tiff with regards to content delivery as a car journalist... Just kept thinking this would be so much better with Tiff!!

How „scientific“… a phone is a phone… not something you use to measure 1/4 mile times 🤔🧐😂.
Why on earth are you eliminating cars rather than adding scores from each round? For example you kick out the cayman for its daily driver qualities commenting that it would be a good track car and immediately go and track two heavy road biased cars. Of all those cars the cayman T is most likely to get tracked
Using the 4 cylinder Jaguar in this test is not only unfair, but stupid.

Mixed car review I think the models were not matched correctly..
They use a 2.0 Porsche?? They could of used a 2.5 718S PDK which costs a little bit more than the T.. disappointing .
Lowest powered Cayman and a stick? S or GTS and a PDK and it wins going away.
