Probably not the best idea to argue with a Salamander regarding civilians...

The Space Wolves fought both the Inquisition & the Xenos while protecting the population and the inquisition nearly defeated them, had it not been for Bjorn the Fellhanded, who basically told them they were the heretics for saying things he’d heard the Emperor say was heresy. Such a flex moment.

  • 1:54 this very shot is why the Salamanders are my favorite loyalist chapter. A man who acknowledges that his ashen skin, red eyes, and sheer mass makes most people afraid of him but he knows damn well to defend the imperium is to defend its people. Even when a sister takes aim on those she deems unworthy to live, he stands in the way *daring* her to shoot. Salamanders are the fucking goat and Sa’kan is a perfect example.

They also often lost huge chunks of the chapter due to them never leaving human life undefended even if its hopeless. @karakun1@karakun17 ай бұрын
    • Which also what I hate about the Salamanders, saving people is nice and all, but I focus more on the big picture. Trading a Salamander life for a citizen is the most wasteful exchange. There was a story of a squad of Salamanders dying to an ork horde in Armageddon to save refugees because they went in melee to cut off the orks from the refugees. Inspiring, but now the defenders lost a dozen Astartes for 100-200 orks. Which is why Grimaldus despise the Salamanders way.

    • @@marcearlsantos9027 Which is a valid and fair critique, often it’s misplaced and more die, but tbf, in the warhammer universe and writing, NO ONE fucking talks to each other, argues or explains in the moment, they only chastise and justify everything after the fact because they’re all high and mighty, and the lack of communication gets more killed anyway. Also, it’s rich coming from the black templars as well when entire worlds burn in their path to destroy an enemy, and are quite honestly nearly a villainous chapter ethics and function wise, they’re badasses, but not ones any human should look up to. No chapter is faultless, but the salamanders at least remember the trillion other human lives exist, most other chapters are just lackeys for the imperium organisation, forgetting the bodies that make it up. But as you said, salamanders problem is a shopping cart dilemma, and the often choose the single person out of haste, not seeing the large amount of people on the next.

    • There are a lot of chapters like that, but the Memehammer mutants will happily ignore canon in favor of portraying all the astartes like Dark Angels or Iron Hands when it comes to humanity. The Salamanders, The Blood Angels (even the goddamned Flesh Tearers in recent lore, trying to prove that they are more than just butchers), the Raven Guard, the White Scars, the Space Wolves, honestly the Ultramarines more often than not, the Crimson Fists, the Silver Consuls, the Iron Snakes, the Space Lions, the Lamenters, the Angels Resplendent, the Celestial Lions, the Red Scorpions, the Howling Griffons, the Marines Errant, the Mentors, and more. There are a LOT of chapters, both first founding and successors (I tried to order the list in that order) who have been shown to be kind and generous to the regular humans of the empire. I think it's probably evenly divided between the "Salamander type" chapters and the "Iron Hands type" chapters. Hell, even the Angels Vermillion. You know, those guys who one day a year take a thousand people and drink all their blood? For the other 364 days of the year they are genuinely paragons of kindness and self sacrifice and bravery and generosity when it comes to the people they save and protect. They will lay down their lives as willingly as any Salamander or Lamenter, and they have the lowest incident of red third and black rage out of the Blood Angels successors. Heck, even the Thousand Sons and Word Bearers were good to people before they fell. Thousand Sons worlds, especially their home worlds, were forged into paradises through their psychic might. The Word Bearers built one of the most perfectly beautiful cities in the galaxy in Monarchia, before the Emps had Guilliman bomb it into a crater for being all worshippy. The Salamanders aren't alone in the universe, no matter what the Memehammer grimdorks would have us believe. Even in the grim darkness sparks of light hang on, and refuse to go out.

    • @@Rurik_Luciit's not no reason, though. She's seen what's happened to the krieg (probably mindshackle scarabs not that she'd know that), and there's a certain cruel logic to not just handing the enemy more warm bodies that you probably can't protect anyway. The Salamander is right that it's their duty to TRY but she's not advocating massacring the civilians for the fun of it.

  • It's important to note that even though the Sisters are often portrayed as Zealots they are very compassionate individuals much like the Salamanders. The Pariah Nexus warps the minds of everyone there and the Sisters are no difference. Their connection to the Emperor, read that as Warp, made a lot of Sisters feels lost. Her connection was so paper thin its hard to blame Sister Danica for her words and actions

  • I love the visual at the beginning, where you see him holding his bolter level at the Sister, but his finger is not on the trigger. He has no intention of harming her, but he has to make sure. As soon as she moves to kill the civilians, he still has his finger off the trigger, but as she seems determined to do them harm, his finger immediately moves to the trigger. Great visual storytelling there.

  • Love how the Guardsmen isn't in certain shots like around 0:40 she's not there, despite being right next to the sister, and while the SM takes up most of the screen which is a good way to make it a easy detail to miss on a first watch. then when the Salamander approaches in the wide shot, can't spot her (and it shows a good amount of area she should be) could argue the sister is blocking (despite her positioning in some of the shots put her to the side and back of the Sister) but unless you're looking for the Guardsmen then it might be something you'll miss/overlook. But the moment the civilians are being targeted and the SM shields them, making her question things, she shows up. Finally after being shot at she isn't in the shot where the civilians are running for cover only showing up when the Sister is hesitating. You don't see her when the civilians are grouped together, she just pops up Seems like a representation of her doubts, which seems to be one of the main theories when it comes to the whole Sister is hallucinating. I do hope that's the case cause it a really cool to see, not to mention the way things were shot, the angles and such are so good
