For many, living in the Netherlands would be a dream, but for some Dutch people, moving out of the country is a goal. I met one of these people, Tristan, during a trip I made to Spain last summer. So I decided to come back in order to learn more about his story living in Spain, culture differences he's encountered, and his life as an entrepreneur.

Huge thanks to Tristan! As a foreigner living in the Netherlands, I found it very interesting to see how a Dutch person adapts living abroad. Have you lived abroad or had desires to? 1:59 the caption should say "you're from the Netherlands, a country known for..."
just a correction but cinco anos=5 years not 6 :P
@rakgi haha, ah I don't know why I made that mistake😂 I promise I know that haha. Thank you!
it's not adapt there not make for that enviroment no hate just saying it, science told me that.
I never had the desire to move to Spain, but going there for vacation absolutely yes. I like NL too much to move but the vacations i had in Spain were awesome. A nice house with everything open for a nice breeze, a pool, a nice bbq pit and a beautiful sea view. That is what i call a great vacation. Nice video Sam. ❤❤❤
Hey Michel! Yeah you can't go wrong with a vacation in Spain. Thanks for watching :)
Mooie video Sam. En je Nederlands wordt steeds beter.
Dankjewel Ronald!
Worked there for a couple of years. Loved it!
Awesome! Did you consider staying permanently?
@@exploringtheforeign No. When our daughter was born I wanted to move back before pre-school, since I have more faith in the Dutch school system. Also, life in The Netherlands is good. I wanted her to see it as her home country.
Hi Sam ! This was such an interesting video. Nice guy too 💕 when my parents retired they moved to Malaga Spain for a couple of years. Then they missed their family and followed me to California. Many Dutch people retire to Spain. It is cheaper than Holland and the weather is better. So is the food ! Great interview ! 🙏💕🌷
Hey Yvonne! Thank you for that! And yeah, Tristan was awesome. Nice that your family ended up going your direction, I could imagine that that was really good for you. And yeah, I understand why people would retire there!
I love this! So cool. Food for thought, for sure! 🍷🥂
Your videos are always charged with positive energy. Lovely to see!
Thank you!!
Great video Sam! 🙌🏽
Thank you 🙌
Not a video I expected, but for sure one I thoroughly enjoyed! Keep at it, Sam !
Awesome to hear! Thank you😃
Good one Sam. I really enjoyed hearing three of my favorite languages, in one video.
Thank you! I found that a really fun part of the video haha
Hi Sam, great video!
Goed idee, You're welcome! 🇨🇼🌞
Fascinating backstory! I've been in Madrid for years but Valencia has been looking more appealing as of late 🏖Great interview!
How do you like Madrid? It would be too hot for me in the summer haha
@@exploringtheforeign I hate the summer here; just bought my tickets home (Chicago) earlier this week, lol. That aside, it's a nice place to live.
Yooooo Maan I really enjoyed this! Man… im over here rethinking why I moved to the Netherlands the way this Tristan is talking! 😂
Haha, thanks Sky! And aye, you can always take a trip there! :)
1:41 Yup. Sun. Plus great food and more relaxed people. I’m definitely jealous. Great video, thank you!
Thank you for watching!
Hey! Im a student in Eindhoven from Valencia! I have many friends from all parts of Spain and I am loving it, its just my first year so still adapting. If you have any video ideas that you would like to do with someone with my background I would be super interested Love your videos!!
Oooh genial!
Leuke video Sam! 🤙
Dankjewel Henk!
A ❤ for the algorithm. .gonna watch tomorrow broer
Thanks, Treg!

@@exploringtheforeign can always call me Richard . Sam
Being myself from a country with a large wine industry and culture, I think this video is really great, congratulations to Tristan for his job and Sam for the interview, and also for your great level of Spanish, I was really surprised when I heard you speaking it. If I were you, I would miss stroopwaffels 😝. Thanks for the video!
Good vid, interesting.
Thank you!
Awesome video! Would've loved if you asked him how he set up his company, with the spanish chamber of commerce? Does he still have a dutch bank account? how does he deal with taxes? and all of that... would've loved to know more about the ins and outs in regards to running a business and taxes!
Thank you! And ahh great points, maybe I'll need to go back for a part 2!
You go to experience the world and stay where the way of live resonates with you. You roots will always be where you were born but sometimes like a plant you need a different environment to really get the best out of yourself like this young man Tristan in Spain ( who is very easy on these old eyes 😂) You my American friend, are a citizen of the world, because you listen without prejudice and your sunny disposition brings out the best in people. It starts with one friendly " Hello" and that is all you need to go out in the world. Love the perspective you're giving us in your video's. Keep up the good work.
Aww wow! Thank you, Alice!!
Definitely understand why people want to live in a better climate. Been to Spain once long time ago with some friends. I think I was 18 or 19 years old and went to Salou. Had nothing to do with culture though. Only saw the beach and the clubs for 2 weeks 🤪.
When I finished my studies, I did consider moving to Portugal for a while. But right now, I love my job at the "Waterschap" so much that I don't consider leaving The Netherlands anymore.
Even though I am a Spaniard who moved to the Netherlands and did the opposite movement than him, I completely understand his reasons and feel such a strong connection with him.
❤Love you nephew!!
Love you, uncle!
I would never be able to move to a different country. Only for vacation. This is also because its a very unique thing in my family. We are very connected to our land I think since we come from farmers family that barely moved to a different province XD
Wow, je Nederlands is zo goed!👍
Dankjewel!😃
South Euro vibes ❤
Wijn drinken in de zon als werk... living the dream! 😁
🇳🇱 all day. Too hot there and not green.
Less working more tanning.
Typical rich dutch guy...😅
He's not rich troll..
@@Lilygirl283 he moved to spain with barely any job. If he didn't have money, he couldn't afford that risk
Exactly 👍🏼 @@infj4w511
And probably would easily move again to another destination if he want.
@@infj4w511 How do you know? I moved to another country without being rich. It ate all my savings (Which was not a lot to begin with) but I found a job and now I get by. The risk creates the necessity. I spent my first few months here doing odd jobs such as weeding on a small farm and then got some better jobs.
