May this never happen in our time as no one will survive it. There are no winners in a war.
This is more that theory. The caliber of people who hold these positions has changed. The likelihood of events to occur has increased. Before they would bark and want to bite however today it would simply occur without much discussion or advanced notice. I am a US citizen and I feel powerless to affect change in my country and the greater world. Fortunately for me I have transferable skills and the ability to secure a safer location than a geographic location where I currently reside near a primary nuclear target within the country. My suggestion is for people to find yourself a second residence outside the zones that are targeted Russia, Europe, China and the North American continent. Australia would most probably be embroiled in any global conflict. You are left with the Southern Hemisphere. Your plastic containers of food and potential Hidy hole may benefit you for a short time. You should already be prepositioned to simply watch the events unfold thousands of miles from any tragic events. Get out of the conflict zones, make your resources count today.
