"And it came to pass that they were never heard of more."
Alma 63:8
The uncertainty concerning the final destination of Hagoth’s voyagers has captured the attention of Book of Mormon readers for generations. Their journeys set the stage for the expansion of the Nephite nation and also demonstrate that the scattering of Israel was taking place even among the Nephites.

  • "President Smith, who had served as a missionary in Hawaii, knew pea meant "perhaps" in Hawaiian and Maori. Meha reported that President Smith said, "I would like to say to you brethren and sisters from New Zealand, `You are some of Hagoth's people, and there is no pea [perhaps] about it.'""

  • In some Polynesian tradition Hawaii Loa brought us to the pacific. He accidentally stumbled on the islands of Hawaii and then returned to bring more people. He was a master navigator and built many Waka (Canoe). When he brought more people, from the big island Oahu in Hawaii all the Wakas departed from and filled the rest of the islands of Polynesia (Samoa, Tonga, Niue, Tahiti, Easter Island, Raro, New Zealand etc) I believe Hawaii Loa was Hagoth. It is said all of Polynesia can claim descent. Please read Alma 63:4-8

  • When you consider 2 Ne 3, the blessing of Joseph the youngest of Lehi's children. Joseph is shown the promise to Joseph who was sold into Egypt and that J.S. was to be from his loins. At the end in vs 23 & 24 it lets us know that he will be from the line of Joseph the son of Lehi. Now unless there were some who left ( one of the 5 departures) how could this have taken place? In my opinion J.S came from a descendant that left with one of those groups ( likely a sea voyage) and some how made their way back to Europe, where they migrated back to N.A. Thus necessary for them to be mentioned.

    • @@KenKrogue Absolutely! Just like Noah, Jared and his family Lehi and his family many people were separated from those who were constantly falling into the traps set by the adversary. Personally I believe that is how the promise to Joseph, son of Lehi of J.S to be a descendant of his lions in 2 Nep 3. Many other departures in Alma 63 with Hagoth and other land departures.

  • This filmmaker, Gabi Plumm, has done some interesting work on the ancient migrations of Polynesian peoples. She has a couple great videos on the origins of people who were in New Zealand before the Maoris arrived, and then this movie that might have significance in the present discussion. It posits that Hawaiian origins are not in the Pacific islands but in Alaska. kzhead.info/sun/eJ2nd6yqg4minJs/bejne.html

    • But according to this video 5 migrations were taken north by land, so maybe Lehi's descendants went north (to Alaska) by land and then built ships later as well?
