About This ONE Fight Night 6 Post Fight Press Conference: Italian-American BJJ superstar Mikey Musumeci dominated elite Mongolian sambo specialist Gantumur Bayanduuren to retain the ONE Flyweight Submission Grappling World Championship. “Darth Rigatoni” caught Bayanduuren in a leg lock early and held the position for nearly the entire duration of the contest. The Mongolian showcased incredible toughness in refusing to tap, with Musumeci maintaining constant pressure on the ankle and knee joints. In the end, the defending king continued his reign with a one-sided unanimous decision victory.
Performance bonus winners: Chingiz Allazov (US$50,000), Aung La N Sang (US$50,000), Stamp Fairtex (US$50,000)

    • @@TheSportsCourier He does seem like a stand up guy. And correct me if you disagree, but I felt what he said could be construed as a bit rued to Gantumur. I personally agree 1000% with everything that Mikey said, but there’s a time and place. I don’t think he should have said stuff like “there just wasn’t a point”. Or “he was gonna loose one way or the other, and now his knee is messed up” (paraphrasing a bit). But it just seemed pretty rude and insensitive to say on a televised interview. No fighter wants to loose a fight, and especially not be injured in a fight, especially like this… then to have the person that destroyed your knee saying your stupid for not tapping. And even getting mad at you for not tapping.. He mentioned he’s a warrior too, but he said it in a way where he doesn’t even respect him. “What a warrior he is for breaking his leg for no reason”… And again. I 1000% agree on what Mikey is saying, just don’t think he should have said it on a televised interview.

    • @@TheSportsCourier definitely should have tapped. Mikey doesn't have to act like the sweetest guy in the world though when he damn well knew he was trying to break his leg as bad as possible knowing he wasn't gonna tap tho. You pull on a heel hook for 5 min straight trying to tear the dudes leg off. It is what it is just don't act like a sweetheart. Ur really nauseous? • @@Traptinachangingmaze This was a fight with thousands of dollars on the line. Its not the responsibility of the fighter to protect you, the goal of grappling is to submit the opponent. This is a fight, protect yourself at all times.

    • @@Traptinachangingmaze You can still feel empathy towards your opponent, while at the same time executing your strategy to win. BJJ as a sport can be absolutely brutal when this situation arises. It's not Mikey's job to make his opponents tap. His job is to apply breaking pressure until they tap. If they do not tap he breaks their shit. If they grit through that he moves to the next bone, joint, tendon, etc. until victory.

I've been on the mats for a looong time so my bullshit meter of the many different jiu jitsu personalities is pretty high. I could be wrong though.

  • I find you destroying someones knee very tasteless. You are disgusting for doing that to someone who you could have finished with a choke. You are way better then him.

    @slaine88@slaine88 Жыл бұрын
    • So every grappler isn't allowed to leg lock just in case some dumbass doesn't tap? Leg locks are a part of the sport. Sure he could have gone against his own advantage just to be nice, but this isn't just a fun game, it's a career that he takes seriously.

      @zeno4538@zeno4538 Жыл бұрын
    • @@zeno4538 He certainly ended that guys career. I wonder if he will ever recover. I am certain he won't. He was popping that guys knee for over 5 minutes. That makes Mikey a terrible person. Obviously the ref should have stepped in. Obviously the guy should have tapped. But life is about making choices Mikey chose to destroy someones career over choking him out

      @slaine88@slaine88 Жыл бұрын
    • @@slaine88 the other guy is very good as well. If mikey gave up his advantage and went for a different submission he might not of won. You're putting the responsibility on him, it's not his responsibility to protect the other guys leg. It's the other guys responsibility. Otherwise the other guy can leverage his recklessness and stupidity to get out of sticky situations. The sport literally wouldn't work if only choke holds were allowed. In high level sports, you take every advantage you can, because your compeditors are also high level and at this level of the sport, every advantage matters. There is no other sport where you would say an athelete should jeopardise there own advantage to take care of a compeditor, especially one that is weaponisng there stupidity and stubbornness. The reality is people hurt each other very badly all the time in combat sports.

      @zeno4538@zeno4538 Жыл бұрын
    • @@zeno4538 The other guy isn't very good. Maybe passable as a black belt, but compared to Mikey he is about the level of a blue belt. Did you watch the match? The guy had not a single attack. It's literally Mikey popping his knee for more than 80% of the match. Mikey pretends to be a nice guy, but the truth about him is obviously seen in this match. He basically crippled this guy. I get your point about the Korean being stupid and stubborn, but when I roll with people who I am clearly better then, I don't need to pop their elbow or what. If they don't tap I move to the next thing. I am not even going to pretend that I am as good in jiu-jitsu as Mikey, he has way more options. He knows he broke that guy's knee. He said so himself. Then he broke it some more. And then he kept breaking it. Then he went and broke it the other way and back to the other side. You can literally see his leg no longer having any stability. At this point as a human being, maybe he could have switched to a choke. But instead he went back to tearing the knee to pieces. I don't know how much you roll, but trust me when someone is injured the next move is pretty easy.

      @slaine88@slaine88 Жыл бұрын
    • @@slaine88 of course, but this is pro level. How do u know for sure he's a bad person, and not just focused on the win. It seemed pretty clear he didn't enjoy breaking the guys leg. He also is very nice and respectful in every other interaction. Again i just don't see it as his responsibility to take care of the other guy during a high level pro fight. He is tunnel vision on securing the win.
