Hi, thanks for the really useful video! I have a Makita DGA463Z Cordless 115mm angle grinder, it has speed control down to 3000 rpm (no load) and up to 8000 rpm. I could run it with a 125mm abralon pad as won't need the guard anyway. Do you think that would be slow enough, I guess under load that 3000rpm would drop nearer 2000.

I have some tempered glass panes used in media blasting cabinets that I was curious if this process could remove the etching on them? The glass isn't terribly expensive to replace but I just feel it is wasteful and would like to recycle the windows as much as possible if it can be done. Thanks for any info you could offier or advise.

I used your kit on a full 1970 Torino windshield. Multiple deep scratches, wiper scratches and windshield full of light scratches. 4 hours later it looks like a 2 year old windshield instead of 50. Thanks!

Btw, you can do more then just remove scratches...with the polishing wheel and the cerium, you can remove oxidation and water spots from automobiles, boats (only glass/no plexi), and rv's (be sure to double tape anything you can bump up against...just in case). And around the house you can remove mineral deposits from shower enclosures and exterior windows. If you ever have any questions, hit me up and I'll do what I can to help you out.

Yes you can. If the scratch is light it will come off with 500 grit.

Thanks for the video! Any suggestions/recommendations/tips for repolishing the *interior* of a car windscreen that got scratched by somebody using a dirty polishing cloth? I can't remove the windscreen as it is bonded to the car, but polishing with an angle grinder is going to result in polish compound all over the interior...
I have not seen the car or what you are dealing with, but any kind of glass polishing is going to require equiptment that operates at high speed. Based on what your saying, you're going to need something that can squeeze in there because the windshield is bonded to the car. I know you don't want to use an angle grinder, but I think the cleareance on the grinder is probably going give you the deepest reach...especially if you use a 6" backing plate. Use a low profile backing plate. If your worried about compound all over the place, I say you grab some plastic and spend a good 30 minutes properly protecting it. Make sure that at the base you lay it out in a way that will catch any solution that drips down in a way that collects it...instead of letting it drip down and around your protection. If it puddles anywhere soak it up with a napking before you remove the plaactic to avoid accident. Hope it helps. Btw, The backing plates I use are as low profile as it gets. Let me know and well try to get one in your hands.

Fortunately, it's the top and middle part of the windscreen that are lightly scratched, so access with a small angle grinder is not an issue; the bottom 40% is in good condition. Thanks also for the offer of the backing plate, but I'm in the UK, which makes shipping a real palaver!
You talk about different RPMs but my Makita angle grinder is just 1 speed so i guess im gonna need a polisher
I would probably say yes, primarily because being able to adjust your speed is intricate to the process for a variety of reasons. Sometimes when your grinding with a certain grit and you might need the disc to bite a little more and sometimes you might want it to skate on the glass on the glass a little more with a little less bite...this is done by adjusting your speed. Different grits also perform better at different speed. And polishing likes typically likes to operate at top of the speed spectrum. It might be possible for an expert technician to pull it off if the drill is operating at a sweetspot, but it would have to be coupled with a lot of skill.

The problem with doing cooktops is they usually come with a printing of where the burners go and surrounding areas. The grinding process will not only remove the scratch, but it will remove everything else on the surface including the printing. I have done cooktops where the customer did not care if it came off. But he was made aware beforehand.

Hi i have a question i put some swirl scratches with 3000 grit wet sand paper in my car glass. Would i need to go through the whole prasses or the scratches are fine enough to just take care of it with the polishing pad and cerium oxide ?
The highest grit we use right before polishing is 1000 and we get that out, so I would be inclined to say yes. If anything gives me slight hesitation is the damage pattern. Meaning, when I grind the finish I leave with my 1000 grit is smooth and gradient. Where as your damage might be more in the pattern of a typicl trenchy kind of scratch pattern. I would hit it a coulple of time with the polishing wheel first and see if it's going to cooperate. If not I'd hit it with the 1000, polish it, and call it a day.

Can you use a dual action sander with the same steps and it work ok?
Shooting from the hip I would say no. Grinding glass is not like wood, paint, or metal. The easiest way to explain it so one understands is...you could successfully either one of the three (wood, paint, or metal) by hand and get the desired finish. It might take you a lot of elbow greese, but you can get there. Glass is it's own animal, and it needs to be worked in a high speed - smooth operating enviroment. For the most part you want the grinding disc's and polishing wheel to skate across the surface of the glass. Depending on what your doing you'll adjust the speed accordingly but it's still the smooth high speed (+/-) that is needed to fix glass.
Would this work on an induction hob?
I would really have to see it to give you an answer if it was even possible.
@ScratchDoctors Quick question. What kind of spray bottle arr you using. It seems that every spray bottle i use gets glogged up and i have to shake everytime before spraying. Did i mix wrong. Instructions were not really helpful.

The mechanichs of removing scratchs from glass is not an easy task to begin with, and trying to cover all the in's and out's on one video would be an overwhelming amount of information to try to get accross. In reference to the issue you are having...Yes, the solution (cerium oxide) consist of very fine particulates that does not totally incorporate 100% into the water. Because of it's nature it settles quickly, and needs to be givin a quick shake every time you pick up the bottle, no matter what you are using it to deliver it. The reason your spray bottle is clogging can stem from a couple of reasons, but assuming that you are using a decent quality new spray bottle, the reason most likely is because you are trying to spray it before the solution is throughly mixed. I am not sure to what consistancy you mixed the solution to (it should resemble watered down salad dressing), but assuming you have mixed it correctly, it still needs to be shaken every time you pick up the bottle. There's a few things you can do to make sure it works right...Use a new decent quality spray bottle, mix the soultion throughouly every time before you use it, and puting a marble in the bottle will help mix the solution properly. When our technician are polishing, every time he picks up the bottle he gives it a quick shake...always. Some of our technicians prefer using the old school ketchup style bottles to deliver the solution. Instead of spraying the solution onto the glass, they pour a little soultion on the center of the polishing pad and deliver it that way. The spining of the pad spreads the solution outwards onto the rest of the pad. No matter what you use, you still have to give it a little shake it every time you pick it up. I’ve removed scratches to an acceptable level using ceraglass, misting water, a rayon pad, and a 3 inch da polisher with an 8mm throw. However I don’t know how to remove the haze I’ve created. Any tips for which combo I should use? I have access to lots of polishes and pads.
It would be hard to suggest a solutions without being able to see the damage. When you use the word "haze", that only tells me the glass is not clear. I understand there's no more scratches, but it does not tell me how well the surface is prepared to take a polish. The haze we create during our process is exremley uniform and gradient with slight transperency. From there we use cerium and a poishing wheel to restore the clarity. If the work you did was done correct, then all you have to do is hit it with a polishing pad and some cerium. If not, then you need to grind the surface with the proper disc's to give you the correct finish that will polish out, and polish from there.
About how long was spent in each polishing step for this window?
Each step takes about 20 minutes give or take. With every disc you grind for 30 - 90 seconds stop pull back and look and what you got, then continue until you get the desired results. Then move on to the next step.

Yes, but the curvature of the windshiled makes the repair a little more challenging!

is this applicable in tampered glass?
Yes it is. I will work on any glass, as long as it's just glass. Some industrial application glass, like fire rated glass is made with ceramic...it will grind, but will not polish out.
Can I apply this on a cc glass fish tank? A lot of micro scratches and I couldn't stand it
I'm not sure what you mean by "cc". But, if we can get out deep scratches, I'm confident we can get out the micro scratches.

Hello Sandwich. No it will not for the same reason you can't grind glass by hand. Glass doesn't sand like wood or even metal. You can take a piece of sandpaper and sand either of them by hand. But the same doesn't work for glass. Glass is it's own animal and it requires that the grinding disc need to operate at a smooth, relativly high speed enviroment to execute the job properly. And every step is critical of how well you performed the last step.
