    • He is ranked 5th in the nation...I would say he is already great. If your definition of great is a 12 yr old beating a good adult player, then he already almost did that here. His future career will depend on his physical growth and his athletic ceiling. A lot of high ranked juniors are technically sound but their athleticism has a ceiling. We won't know his ceiling for a few more years.

  • Winston, I have been watching your game for years. The improvements you have made recently with the help of Coach Karue have taken your game to a new level. Your serve is improved; your backhand is more consistent (still a bit flatter than I'd recommend for your game style); your sense of court awareness and timing gives you so many more tactical options during the point. If you pardon the armchair coaching, I really believe that a more deliberate split step on the return of serve as your opponent makes contact with the ball will put you in a much more offensive posture that puts your opponents on their heels immediately, especially with as much spin as you impart on the forehand wing. That and maximizing your depth of groundstrokes can easily raise you to 5.0. Keep it up, good sir!

  • 2:17 Dang, that is really good awareness and placement. Great job Adrian, those kind of shots and techniques are gonna help you go a really long way in this sport. If you can keep your opponent having to make tough judgement calls to spring like that with good speed and placement you'll keep winning those kind of exchanges and points. Keep that moment in your head and your mental image and you'll build that muscle memory. This was an awesome set.

Interestingly, Adrian had more breakpoints (12 in 6 games vs Winston 7 in in 4 games). But both won 4 break points each. Winston won the short rallies by 14 points (33 vs 19) and Adrian the medium length rallies (20 vs 10). • I honestly expected a lot more. A top quality 12 year old tennis player in the nation should be able to dominate most 4.5 players including Winston.

  • Fun video, I've always wondered what the outcome of a match like this would be

  • this little bro's forehand, Adrian held tough and had endless wheels because he seemed to have to work double or triple the steps. I thought high to the bh out the gate and it worked for the most part but staying away from Adrian's FH was key, he knew when to go for winners and opened angles up.. great match all around, Winston definitely was being patient a lot of looks also impressive.. it would be hard to try to hit this kid off the court and still have enough gas to finish.

  • Well, the “Man Factor” def. Took over in the tiebreaker, but overall, Du….your game had improved so much! You are just a few unforced errors away from leveling up even more! Inspiring to see how the practice and determination is paying off!

  • Definitely see your improvements! I see you put a lot of spin but would love to you see you take the ball on the rise more which will take time away from your opponent.

  • Really enjoyed this match. Adrian was a little “talkative” but he has a lot of game and showed good sportsmanship.

  • You've finally found an evenly matched opponent! the problem is Adrian will be playing D1 in 5-6 years. But your progress looks great. Since you like to run around your backhand (which is solid) maybe work on the da-da-da-da-da-da footwork so you don't catch it late. If Karue was there he'd probably say, "Keep the feet moving!"

  • Great set, and very evenly matched although when Winston came to the net or flattened it out his power showed. My only suggestion for Winston, a few too many run-around forehands caused you to get stuck in the backhand corner. Your backhand is very solid just play a BH neutral ball and recover to the middle. Karue has definitely made an impact, your level is WAY up!. Coach Mark

    • I think Winston needs a harder serve, it’s too easy to return

  • Junior played short angle backhands a lot. Very effective shot that any player should learn.

  • That was a LOT of running around to hit that forehand on the return of your first serve point!

  • Winston, you're really upping your game! Only thing I'd suggest is that if you're gonna run around your backhand to hit a forehand down the same line, you really need to get back to the center of the court instead of praying that it's a winner. Several time, Adrian anticipated the shot, then simply cross-courted into an empty court. Great fun to watch, though.
