Restoration of a Rolex Datejust - A Million Years with No Service! It's Not Pretty Inside! This time I restore a Rolex Datejust manufactured by Rolex in the early 1970s that had not been serviced in decades. This absence of servicing shows up inside the watch in a dramatic fashion. As I work on this Rolex 1570 movement I uncover a few nasty surprises.
But Rolex watches are high quality machines and with some focused work I get this lovely old watch back up and running. By the end of the work it is beating strongly and accurately again! Nice!

  • The quality of how each step was filmed is unequalled, fantastic.. that and editing it all into a video must be the most time-consuming of the whole venture! I don't get the face and voice that don't match tho.

  • Magnificent video. True clarity on each step. I have had the privlege of repairing several of the Rolex calibers. I truly enjoyed two original British Rolexs before the company relocated to Switzerland. In my day parts were readily available.. I have run into the same mainspring lubrication failure. The past state of the art lubricants don't compare to today's lubricants. I am a retired 3rd generation watchmaker who really appreciates the kind of work you do. I never could be a branded watchmaker. I always enjoyed my work on many types of timepieces. It has been rewarding as I'm sure it is for you. Best of Time

  • As always, your videos are exceptional. I have a Rolex Datejust 1603 with a sigma dial and of course the 1570 movement. Every time I watch you do the 1570 repair/restore I get even more attached to my Datejust. It amazes me as to how much goes into the 1570 movement and that with good maintenance will keep running for ever. You legitimize the excellence of this watch and Rolex. It is no wonder the Datejust has been one of their most sought after watches for decades. Keep those videos coming. Take care and stay safe.

    • @@juniorjohnson5961 Probably dried ancient lube.

      @samiam619@samiam6192 жыл бұрын
    • The black stuff in the mainspring barrel was mostly dried lube. It looks like an excess was used. The filings seem to have come from the barrel also, you can see scoring inside the barrel as he disassembles it. An excess of grease is a problem as it gets thicker and collects dust, which turns it into a grinding paste. This has gone to next level due to neglect. Apart from the yoke spring I didn't see any other parts replaced, so the filings *must* have come from the barrel. If you see black soot all through the movement that is also usually dried barrel grease. Get your mechanical watches serviced regularly folks, otherwise you can put 100 years of wear on a watch in less than 10 years.

  • Oh no 0.0 I recently got a Datejust from 87 and it looks great on the outside, I don't think it's been serviced or polished but it runs like a charm despite maybe an hour or two loss on the power reserve but all in all, it sounds great and feels great especially when winding and setting the time. I had it valuated by Goldsmiths company and it's 100% genuine, they didn't mention anything about it needing a service but for now I'm happy with it and how she runs :) I spent a pretty penny on it but it was still a bargain and I'm not ready to pay the premium for the service yet :') when it tells me it needs a service, I'll send it off. Great video as usual!

  • As you know, metal filings around the keyless works, sliding clutch, and clutch wheel are not normal. The watch also arrived with the winding stem removed, which is usually locked in place. It did not appear that you addressed either the cause of the extreme wear in the keyless or why the stem came disconnected from the body. It would seem that these things are connected and that some parts would need to be replaced.
