My little understanding of economics, the currency works or appreciates when the country produces goods for exports and not depending on imports. All the cars moving on our potholed roads, non of them was made here in zim. most of the goods and services we use here in zim are imported outside the country. for a person in business to import goods, he or she does not go with the zig currency, but needs USD to go there. The easy way to exchange zig currency to USD is to go to the black market. so the black market will always thrive and the zig will fall. Thats my understanding, i dont know whether im missing it. i am not an economist

Something you will never get in Harare with the corrupt zanu gravy train. It just shows that you don’t have to terrorise and impose your opinions on people for them to support you. Great analogy Mr. Mayor. Exactly my thoughts. In as much as the citizens have been in a way forced to accept this new currency, the governor now has the responsibility of bringing confidence not only to the citizens of Zimbabwe but to the world at large, especially our trading partners. Todays rate of $ 0.0811 per (ZIG / USD) seems too good to be true. His task is to make me believe this rate. Otherwise, we may have found our selves a key to unlocking our economic potential.

It's a pity the audience seemed a little bored.... This was a great speech and I believe Zimbabwe should split into North and South and have it's own seperate Independence just like Korea. This happened in 1924 when we had Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia) and Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe). .... Coltart would be the best president for South Zimbabwe.

The economic environment is not conjucive for own currency at the moment. We cant talk of own currency which gvt rejects for own transactions like duty and passports. Even fuel is purchased in usd apa fuel makes up a huge part of our daily budget. Combis are forced to charge fares in Zig but buy fuel in usd, zvino maker sense here. Let bring back investor confidence first then tozoita local currency, or atleast stop forcing it on pple if until gvt starts using that currency for everything. As long as we have to buy usd for essentials like fuel then new currency iyoyo will tank within a few months.
