  • Loook at that swilly wittle bear face!! After a considerable amount of study and research, I'm personally convinced Akitas are the most beautiful dog breed in the world; blue Thai Ridgebacks a close second. What I like about this breed is that they seem to have a much lower drive (sans prey) than more popular breeds, especially those that I've owned in the past. The time requirements for successfully owning such a breed are not within my current life schedule, but perhaps in the future, I'll consider either rescuing one, or buying one outright. Until then, I'll just continue admiring clips of other ppls Akitas on YT. 😔

    @jr8841@jr88413 жыл бұрын
    • We use many different treats and categorize them (low value vs high value). High value are for more difficult tricks or for motivating him to learn new tricks; whereas, low value treats are for tricks he has already mastered and random stuff we like him doing around the house. Our low value treats are things we buy at the store like Blue Buffalo Bits or any dog treats we like from Costco :) High value is usually cooked salmon, beef, or liver... Hope that helps. If you want more specific brands like us know!

Walk/heel training takes a long time and persistency. We started walk/heel training when he was just 4 months old, and we still need to do it today lol. @a.c.6475@a.c.64753
    • Hi! Thank you for your comment and advice! This is topic that has been highly debated. From our research - when elevated bowls came about, it was advertised as a preventative measure for bloat. However, this claim has never been backed-up by studies. The most scientific and largest study to-date about this topic actually shows "approximately 20 and 52% of cases of GDV among the large breed and giant breed dogs, respectively, were attributed to having a raised feed bowl". I think the reason for this is because elevated food bowls tend to allow dogs to eat faster and with each gulp more air is being ingested. Attached is the study I have referenced above (skip to the Results and Clinical Relevance section): avmajournals.avma.org/doi/abs/10.2460/javma.2000.217.1492 ---- we are definitely open to discussing more :) we love to learn so please feel free to share any insight you may have. • @@tobitheakita Thank you for this. My A. Akita is 11, I adopted him last year and he has a lot of issues. I was looking into raised bowls, but now I think I will pass.

    • @@MarblesN you are such a caring person. Thank you for adopting a senior akita. You truly saved his life and I am so happy he will get to spend the rest of his life with such a kind person. The issue of bloat and raised bowls is very debatable. It all comes from loving our dog so much we just want them to be comfortable when they eat and raised bowls definitely looks like they provide a better eating experience for the dogs. Also, the internet provides contradicting information on this subject. But I based my decision on scientific studies and I can only hope that Tobi will never have bloat ever. He likes to go up to other dog parents and dogs, and because of his size and breed reputation, they get really anxious/defensive. • Far from the "best" life, sure you love your dog and care however the breed are natural for cold and snow which clearly your not that climate, second this dog was on a leash walking or indoors, no yard for true exercise running. My rescue gets very excited once snow comes and living 9,000' mountains there is 4' outside now and snowing till may, summer he has an overhead cable pulley system 100 yards with 50' lead off of, winter I snowshoe trails back yard (11 acres) so that he can run and play in deep snow, just loves it! Lastly at this moment he is in bed with me practically spooning, every night his collars come off, he gets 15-30 minute pet or rub and we sleep together. Sorry, the title and yourself with dog was disappointing.

  • You do know that dog food is scientifically u healthy for cats and dogs and they should be given non GM meat, eggs, fish, vegetables etc but no rice, pasta - carbon type foods or kibble type and dog canned food as been researched and outcomes is it contributes to bad or worse ill health. Also, a big butcher thigh bone would clean your Akita's teeth whilst it gnaws (chews) on it. You need to do better by feeding your dog healthy diverse food otherwise when older could get sick!

    • Thank you for your concern and the information. We are currently in the process of changing his diet over to a raw based diet. We have tried switching over when he was very young but he was starving himself for multiple days and it was very important to our relationship that I kept his trust in that moment. I did not want to force him into it. Right now he is actually having trouble biting on bones so I grind his chicken bones down for the calcium content. However I still brush his teeth.

    • @@tobitheakita Thank heavens cos such a gorgeous dog and worth it. I was going to suggest the raw food diet with sometimes mixing a little oil (virgin: olive, coconut etc) or whatever helps with joint problems and coat. You sound very well clued up. He's a lucky dog with you as his owner. 👋🏾

    • Thank you for the suggestions. He’s getting fish oil, a multivitamin, turmeric powder and glucosamine with his meals. Currently tapering him off kibble as I feed him ground up meats with ground whole chickens. He is a picky eater, he stresses me out so much but I think he’s gaining weight so far.

    • @@tobitheakita So glad you've given such a beauty much considered thought on what to eat. Would be awful for a dog of its stature eating the type of food that shortens his life as he's such a looker. I'm glad you've incorporated turmeric and of course glucosamine (which I was going to suggest for joints). He can now run, jump and be a little mischief within your boundaries set of course but knowing you are doing everything possible out of love for him to not succumb to any injuries or worse illness. He's so gorgeous looking and a natural strong build. He's already bringing happiness and keeping the family healthy in many ways - endorphins for one when you stroke him. His future looks good and that's due to you as his owner. 😉

And of them are those that move on their bellies, and of them are those that walk on two legs, and of them are those that walk on four. Allah creates what He wills. Indeed, Allah is over all things competent. And there is no creature on earth but that upon Allah is its provision, and He knows its place of dwelling and place of storage. All is in a clear register.The Quran (Hud,6) PS : Allah is the name of God in arabic . The arabic jewish & christians arabs they say Allah too . In the arabic bible it is written Allah. Only 18% of Muslims are Arabs but 82 % they are Muslims but not Arabs so the majority of Muslims are not Arabs .& the arabic word islam, it means submission (Submit to God) which is the religion of all prophets since Adam including the messengers Moses, Jesus and Muhamad peace and blessing of Allah be upon Them all .They have One God, one Religion and one straight path (the pure Monotheism). Indeed this community of yours (your religion) is one single community (is one religion), and I am your Lord, so worship Me. Abraham was neither a Jew nor a Christian, but he was one inclining toward truth, a Muslim [submitting to Allah ]. And he was not of the polytheists. And your God is one God. There is no deity [worthy of worship] except Him, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.
