It turns out “shipped” DOES have spice scenes so goodreads lied to me 😐 thx for letting me know though reader pops have fun reading!!!!
mmmmhmmmm.... spice scenes be spicing
Haley, I have a question for you. I read People we meet on vacation. Emily Henry. I had to shut it half way bc it got too spicy for me. If you don’t like spice how did you overcome that book. I feel like that book went way into detail about things I didn’t need it to go into detail about -if you know what I mean-
Omg! Haley. I don't know if you know this but because of you I read the folk of the air trilogy and I am obsessed with it. And I just found out at like 15 minutes ago we are getting a spinoff of the trilogy "The Stolen Heir" which is going to be a duology about Oak who is 17 years old now and Suren who was the child queen of the court of the teeth. I was happy that I literally screamed and you were the first person I thought should. It's coming out on January 3 2023 p.s Love your book videos, you are one of my favourite book tubers
@@sharanyayadav5425 OMG?? THANKS FOR TELLING THIS TO ME
Accidentally Engaged also has some spice in it. I started reading it and had to skip some parts.
finally someone who appreciates non spice in romance

Yessss!!! Im searching for thiss!!
What does no spice mean
why can’t YA have the characters going through something hard other than someone’s death? it’s in every one!!!
You should read 'love is a revolution' its a really good one
Nicola Yoon writes a lot of good, genuine struggles that aren't death.
Y'all need to get on this channel the book recs are Soo good youtube.com/@fa_cts
Hell yes or a sibling with cancer. It just feels like a cold subplot to create sympathy.
Literally like when their parents died when they were 13 like we don’t care and you’re so “original”😍 Coughs @ twisted series
Thank you!! I’m a Christian and have to constantly skip over spicy scenes. I love romance stories and I’m okay with skipping, but it would be nice to read some where I don’t have to skip :)
That’s literally my problem right now! I’m trying to move away from the spice and I’m skipping scenes 😂 I’m glad I’m not the only one!! I’m also trying to dive into actual Christian romances
im also christian and could you recommend some good novels?

I’m not a big fan of spice in books, so I really appreciate this video. I would rather fangirl over 2 characters holding hands than a spicy scene. Cute romances make me super happy bc I feel like spice sometimes ruins a ship. I want the ship to he cute and then mature later into spice (which is probably why I love it when both characters have a strong foundational friendship/companionship other than the romance)
I wish it was easier to figure out if a book has spice in it before you buy it. This video was really helpful, thanks Haley! God bless
I tend to look online for the spice levels or reviews. Honestly, they should have a spice warning.
As 14 year old i appreciate this video because i can probably read most of it
Same!
A book series that isn’t focused on romance but has my OTP is The Ever Afters by Shelby Bach, I love those books so much. They’re middle school books but I personally LOVE them and I’m almost 17 🙃
a list for people wanting to reference it (bc i’m rewatching the video to make one for myself lol): - better than the movies by lynn painter - the do over by lynn painter - the summer of broken rules by k.l. walther - love and gelato by jenna evans welch - anna and the french kiss by stephanie perkins - 99 days by katie cotugno - the summer i turned pretty by jenny han - to all the boys i’ve loved before by jenny han - the selection by kiera cass - daisy jones and the six by taylor jenkeins reid - the romantics by leah konen - redeeming love by francine rivers - the cheat sheet by sarah adams - it only happens in the movies by holly bourne - meet me at midnight by jessica pennington
Thank you! this is just what I needed
Super Helpful! Thank you !!

Finally 🙌🏻 I never read romances because the spice makes me feel uncomfortable. Raised in the church so yeah lol. So I’m so happy to see this video with all these book recs. They’ve all been added to my goodreads. Thank you
Same haha. Christian here, it gets tiring skipping over scenes.
I’m not raised in the church but it still makes me uncomfortable so I get you
it just feels so weird to read them T_T
Same!!!!
Another LIST OF BOOKS with no spice/closed-door romances (from the comments section or books I know): +Flipped by Matt Berman +If I Never Met You by Mhairi McFarlane +Places We've Never Been by Kasie West +[ *not exaclty romance* ] Keeper of the Lost Cities by Shannon Messenger +100 Days of Sunlight by Abbie Emmons +The Sun Is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon (2 or 3 make-out scenes) +This Time It's Real by Ann Liang (Binged this book in nearly 3 days. Literally amazing. There was like only 1 kiss scene) +Six Crimson Cranes by Elizabeth Lim (There is like one peck scene, and one kiss I think)
omg i LOVE keeper of the lost cities
Keeper of the lost series is great but I wouldn’t call it a romance because it’s not focused around that but ofc that’s a great bonus. :)) also it’s more of a middle grade book rather than a YA book I believe but it’s still such an amazing book! 😊
is the flipped one like the movie?
@@rosyybear pretty sure "Flipped" the movie is *based* on "Flipped" the book!
Yess
I'm so excited for this. I love reading romance books, but I'm still young so it's tricky finding stuff that I feel okay with reading. Thank you so much for making this.
My favorite book series of all time is “The Lunar Chronicles” by Marisa Meyer and I think you would LOVE this series. It’s a sci-fi/romance and the writing is just so clever and is a 5 star read in my opinion. I love these book videos!! 💞
omg i love those books so much there soooo good
I love these books!!! honestly one of my favorites series ever
Omg yes I second this!! That’s the series that made me fall back in love with reading again!! 💕
I read the renegades books front when same author and they might be my ALL TIME favorite series I loved them soo much
Omg those are literally elite🤩
i love the summer of broken rules and love and gelato! i’m currently reading love and luck and it is so different but still enjoying it!
@Alana Jackson i have it! the only thing that stopped me from grabbing it is that it looks a bit thick haha
@Alana Jackson ya love and luck is written so differently!
Finally someone else who likes romance books WITHOUT spice I came here for some good recs lol
This is the reason I love Haley, she comes up with the best book recommendations 🤩
I love Francine Rivers’ writing style too! Her characters have so many layers and dialogue and relationships are so relatably depicted!
I'm excited to read some of these! I took a long reading hiatus after high school and I'm just getting back into it again, but I love a good cozy romance! I grew up getting all of my romance reads from my Christian school library, so reading again I was a little shocked to find how many books have a lot of spice! I guess I assumed only the books with the muscular bare-chested men on the cover were filled with that. 😂 There are so many cute stories out there that I would prefer without the spice!
agreed
Thanks for making this video!! Such a good reference when picking new books, especially in this category. I love when you mention spice level of books in some of your other videos too! It's so so so helpful as I'm cautious what I fill my mind with! :)
haley, i have been WAITING for this one! i am so thankful you made this video! thank you so so much, and please keep recommending no spice romances when you find new ones!
Thank you SO MUCH for making this video!!! The amount of hours I’ve spent this week trying to find another book to read has been insane. ❤️
This is honestly the perfect video! There are so many books right now that are recommended but there is no way to find out if they have that and sometimes you just want something without it. This video was amazing!
I read Summer of Broken Rules because of you and I absolutely loved it! Definitely gave it 5 stars! I also put off reading Love & Gelato because of the cover and I just read it this week and really loved it! It was such a fun setting and I loved the dynamic between the Lina and Ren so much
Thank you so much for making this video!!! I feel like it's getting harder and harder to find romance books with no spice in it so this is making my life so much easier!!!
haley!! i highly recommend reading ‘sick kids in love’! i think it has an implied scene but its definitely closed door and super clean. from the first page, all of the interactions are super sweet and funny and i think you’ll really like the love interest. cover and writing style is adorable too ;)
Even tho i am not into books that much, seeing haley speak abt them just makes me wanna read em
I’ve read Better Than the Movies because of you and it’s one of my fav books ever rn 🥺 it’s literally everything I love packed into a book 💛
I just finished reading "If I never met you" by Mhairy McFarlane and it is also a closed door romance with a fake dating trope. It's really fun ! Would recommend !!
I absolutely LOVE THIS BOOK!!! Second everything said above haha
Yes, that book is really entertaining. I really enjoyed it. Read it twice. 😊
thanks for the rec! i ended up reading it cuz of your comment and really enjoyed it :)
I have read the selection when I was younger and I am SO glad you talked about it. 😍 I always go back to it
YESSS I'm so excited to watch this! I don't really read spicy books so this is perfect 💖 Thank you Haley!!!!
If you are looking for closed door romances I highly recommend Jenny Proctors books!! She writes such good chemistry between her characters and her banter is always so good! 🤩
Kasie West is a great author if you love cheesy romances without spice! I also really loved the romances in the Lunar Chronicles as well as the Renegades trilogy (both by Marissa Meyer!)
thank you haleyyy i have been trying to look for some closed door romances!! this is so helpful!!
thank youu haley! i’m actually organizing my bookshelf right now and having the time of my life ahahh so excited for this video! and i recently read ugly love and yeah.. safe to say i prefer romance with no spice because that was a bit much for me
watch out for colleen hoovers books if you dont like spice. ive read multiple of her books and all of them so far have had a noticeable about if spice. i love her books so much but obv they arent for everyone
I just ordered better than the movies and love and gelato I’m so hyped to read these two! Thank you for the recommendation Haley!
I’m so happy you posted this because I’ve been going through all of your recent book videos because I remember you saying a new favourite and I couldn’t find it!! And now I can read it!!
Bro I’m literally so excited for this because I’ve been waiting for clean recs for so long. Like I always search the book up and try to find if there’s spice but there’s like never any information about it 😫. Thank you so much for doing this
Love and Gelato is also one of my favs!! it is so so cute and i would recommend it to everyone and anyone :)
omgg thank u so much for ur recommendations i was waiting for this one love uu
Thank you SO MUCH for this video! You seem so sweet and your voice is so pretty! Thanks for taking the time to share some no spice reads!!! I cant stand smut so i love to get clean recommendations! Also, THE CHEAT SHEET ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️(So good)
I read Love&Gelato WHILE I was in Florence so it was even better for me to read it. I loved that book so much and I can't wait to read the other ones as well that you showed❤️
Ugh, The Masterpiece is amazing! So excited for you to read it!
I finished Places We’ve Never Been by Kasie West maybe a week ago and it was a road-trip romance with no spice at all! None of Kasie West’s books have any of those things or even cursing, so I would recommend all of her books.
i’ve read ps i like you by her and loved it!! placed we’ve never been is on my tbr but i haven’t found it to buy yet
I absolutely love Places We’ve Never Been!!
Yesss!!! I absolutely loved that book! I also liked Sunkissed
I love her books! P.s. I like you is so good!!!
How about the ending is it a happy ending?😭
love you Haley your my comfort KZheadr Can we all just appreciate the amount of effect Haley puts into these videos
I am so thankful you made this video x
Another closed book series is Emma st Clair’s romance series. it’s about these five best friends and in each book one friend finds a lover. It’s really cute and it has a lot of verity.
i love watching your review of books i read bc we have such similar perspectives
Thank you!! I’ve been searching for this! I love your vids! They’re honestly my fav thing ever 💕
Faux Real by E L Lewis is also a great closed door romance. It's young adult, enemies to lovers, fake dating and both of the main characters are really strong . Highly recommend. All of my favourite tropes are in it . A Five star read for me
Katie Cotugno is one of my favourite authors! Her book “How to Love” is my favourite 😍 The title sounds cheesy but it’s SOOO GOOD!! 99 days also has a sequel which is amazing!! It’s called “9 Days and 9 Nights”
Thank you so much for this!! I struggle with finding clean romance books especially on booktok and this totally helped!
Finally clean books!! Thank you so much I will definitely be looking into these!
literally i take your reviews and book recommendations as canon. so many of your recommendations are on my tbr and i cant wait to read them
I just finished Better Than The Movies, I love it so much, it was funny and by the end I was a sobbing mess because of how perfect it was :"))))) Haley's recs never disappoint. 5 stars!!!!
the way that your whole youtube feed is just books makes my heart happy
Haleeeey I just came back from a reading slump and I'm eating up your content, I could ear you talk about books all day I swear. I'm new to your channel but I love you already 🥴
I recommend a curse so dark and lonely its a really cute beauty and the beast retelling with amazing world building and cute romances with no spice!
Yes !!! the whole Cursebreaker series was definitely 5 stars for me ♡
The Masterpiece is one of my FAVORITE books! it’s so so good. An amazingly written story for sure!
yess girl this book is a masterpiece in itself
Thank god! you're a life-saver Haley, i've been waiting for this!
love you haley! you make me so happy whenever you post
Here are some of my fav YA books!! 1.American Royals 2. All This Time 3. Clique Bait 4. Field Notes On Love 5. Delirium
I read (listened to) Redeeming Love after hearing about it on your channel and it was a beast of a book (17 hours listening time), but it's one of the books I think about and appreciated the most. I agree that a non-Christian could appreciate it too, but I feel like understanding the Biblical background from the book of Hosea made it so much more meaningful and gave me an appreciation for the patience some parts of the story took. I watched the movie too and didn't like it nearly as much. There was more spice than expected, but nothing explicit. They actually had an interview with Francine Rivers after the audiobook and she said she used to write explicit romance novels and when she became a Christian she bought back all the copyrights and took them out of print. Redeeming Love was her first closed-door romance novel as a Christian writer.
Am I crazy for remembering scenes in the book? Like with the brother in law when he takes her into town? I remember reading that scene in full context- as well as her and the main character’s first time 🤷🏻♀️
@@ellendebelon They are in there but things were basically just implied, not described as in a lot of books. I guess that's why I considered this more "closed door". I think with riding into town with Paul it said something like "Paul was quick and then pushed her aside." There were definitely a lot of scenes where you know things have happened without getting a play-by-play. I'm pretty sure even the "steamiest" of scenes were pretty tame. I guess I thought she did a good job of handling the balance of limiting spice while writing a whole book basically themed around sex.
Thank you Haley for this video! I prefer books without spice so i love this
I am so happy that you mentioned If The Shoe Fits Haley. I read that book last month and loved it. The other two books in the series By The Book and Kiss The Girl are really great too.
A super fun romance/fantasy book is “Daughter of the Pirate King” by Tricia Levenseller. It’s one of my all time favorites!!
this book is so good i read it so fast!
YESS OMG
i just got that book yesterday im so excited to read it
i literally just finished it and omg i loved it
Am i the only one who thought that this series was mid 😭
I need a list for non-spicy tv-shows and movies too! It’s very hard to find something when you’re not in the mood for high school as a theme either. Everything is so explicit in all directions these days. I want a story!
Yeeeeees! this is perfect! I haven’t seen any kind of book recommendations like this one and I really needed this ;)
I learned about better than the movies from you and it has become one of my absolute favorites. I read both spice and not spice, and this book is one of my favorites overall... so thanks for the rec!! 😊
I definitely recommend reading The Masterpiece by Francine Rivers, it’s beautifully written and one of those books you don’t want to put down.
Theeee best
I also recommend Morgan Matson books! They are summer contemporary YA books and they are always so fun
I have been recently watching your videos for the first of time and it has inspired me to read your book recommendations because it seems we have the same taste in books. Thanks!!!!

those are 5 star books for me!! so so good!!
both are rlly rlly good
i also heard that the summer of broken rules is based off of the folklore love triangle! (i could be wrong though)
I’m fine with spice and no spice with my romance books. Half the time I don’t even realize that the romance book I’m reading isn’t spicy but when it is it’s a nice surprise. The summer I turned pretty trilogy and To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before trilogy are two of my favs
You should read Jenny Han's other book series "Burn for Burn". YA, really good. Plus mind blowing plot twist.
Thank you so much for sharing these!! I’m so grateful for a no-spice list!
Thank you SO MUCH! I'm always reading spice in books and it makes me uncomfy so I appreciate this
I'm 13, and the Cheat Sheet, and the Two All the Boys series is such a good start to romance! The Summer I Turned Pretty series was a little slow for me, so I don't recommend it as much, but still a great choice :) I'm currently reading the Summer of Broken Rules, and it's not as good as the Cheat Sheet, and the Two All the Boys, but I'll see!!
Thank you for this!! I love romance books but all of the “spice” can be a bit too much 😅 I will definitely take note of these books! 💕
GIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIRL THANKYOU SO MUCH! I struggle to read more *spicy* books for personal reasons, but I LOVE romance books so this list is peeerfect.
thank you sooo much for this!! I honestly have been looking for a video like this forever!
ok. this is more of a juvenile fantasy series but i’m 17 and i am OBSESSED with it. it’s called Keepers of the Lost Cities. seriously don’t judge the book by it’s cover. i literally can never put the books down. it’s SO GOOD

Francine rivers' writing is fantastic. I've read redeeming love so many times and always take something new away from it. The masterpiece was really good and I also highly recommend Bridge to Haven. It's a wonderful book. Not as heavy on the romance but definitely worth reading

Love this list! If you love romance without spice I would highly recommend Edenbrooke by Julianne Donaldson. She writes ‘proper romance’ books and they’re perfection! I also think anything by Julie Klassen doesn’t have spicy scenes!
I love Julie Klassen!! No spice!
BEEN WAITING FOR THIS YESSS THANK YOU!!
TYSM FOR THIS!!! i really needed it! hope your day is going well!!
highly, highly reccommend 'ill give you the sun' by jandy nelson. its about a pair of twins that are artists, switches POV, they both have their own love stories and the writing is phenominal. since theyre artistic, they see the world through such a unique lens and it honestly changed how i view the world. i think there may be a bit of spice but im pretty sure its fade-to-black or at least very mild edit: there is also some mystery in it!!!! its just *chefs kiss*
I absolutely LOVE this book! All time fav for sure
