  • I had Aspinall beating Pavlovich ahead of their fight, but winning by KO in the first round was a pleasant surprise. I figured he'd weather the early storm and get the fight to the ground for a TKO or submission finish in the 3rd round. Obviously, I underestimated Aspinall's speed and power, and I should have known better since he rarely needs more than a round to find the finish. I'm really bullish on his future as the heavyweight champion. Furthermore, he seems like a genuinely good and humble dude, and honest about feeling fear in the lead-up to his bouts, so he's a solid role model for young men everywhere.

I feel privileged to have watch his journey and could not be happier with how far he’s come. Listening to guys like Cejudo shower praise on him is also something really great to see. He’s also the guy I’m most nervous watching. Not because I don’t think he can get it done, but because I’m so invested in his journey that I just want to see him keep winning, smashing records and establishing his legacy as one of the (if not hopefully someday the) greatest heavyweights of all time.

  • Aspinall is one of if not the most dangerous fighter the ufc has ever had. He doesn't try to get on top of you and grind out a decision... The dude is going for the kill, whether by knockout or submission... He isn't here to play around. I'm telling you guys. He has a 100% finishing rate.. Also, the three losses... One was legitimate... He did lose by heel hook early in his career... But One was a dq loss like jones has, and the other was a knee injury he most likely had going into the fight. He is the real deal... I do think that he wouldn't be playing around with jones. But jones will not fight him. Jones deserves a match with stipe, then he should hang it up. He doesn't want to destroy his legacy with a young prime aspinall, it would probably end very badly for him, and I truly believe he knows that.

    • He is. An interim champion in the UFC is a fighter who has been awarded the heavyweight Championship title in the absence of the reigning champion. This absence could be due to various reasons such as injury, suspension, ducking or any other circumstance that prevents the champion from defending their title within a reasonable time-frame. As we all know Jon "Juice" Jones spent a lot of time ducking Ngannou and now he's ducking Tom. It's a fight we'll never see happen unfortunately.

  • I think the financial barrier is what prevents most people from pursuing any type of career in combat sports. You REALLY have to love what you do, have a strong support system and catch a few breaks or come from wealth and somehow convince your wealthy parents that fighting is somehow better than the career they envisioned for you. I think the sport would advance by leaps and bounds if combat sports were as ubiquitous in schools as say baseball, basketball, football, etc. while also having the same infrastructure, funding and so on of course. I mean even golf, rowing and tennis are pretty much a staple of every school (I assume, I am almost 50, so it has been 30ish years since I stepped foot in a school, I could be wrong. I just know that everything I mentioned, along with a litany of other sports, was available at my school). I apologize for the lengthy comment, it just stood out to me that I often hear about the financial difficulties fighters have to endure and how that’s a fairly unique thing to combat sports when compared to other “mainstream” sports. I hope this made sense and nobody fell asleep trying to read this wall of text.

  • Mark my words, Tom Aspinall will be the one that will dethrone Jon Jones, if it isn't him then there is no one that can and Jones will retire being the best there has ever been. Aspinall is the closest thing we have ever come to having the ability to deal with Jones and finish him, feel as though Jones not having enough time fighting at heavyweight will come into play but it is going to be a defining fight for both men, I pray for a 2024 fight.

    • Eh, a goat wouldn't have that Reyes fight then immediately run away from the sport after what should have been a loss. Dodge Francis/Stipe while they were peak and fighting in UFC. And the multitude of failed drug tests. I couldn't imagine Tom having ANY of those issues. Or any of the other actual legitimate claims to GOAT status like DJ or GSP. Nah, eye-poke Jones is an embarrassment to the sport tbh.

    • @@ghoulbby oh I agree to an extent, the guy shouldn't be allowed to still be fighting with his history. Can argue that he did dodge Stipe but it's looking like Jones and Stipe is happening again before Aspinall can even unfiy the belts, absolute joke that. But you can't deny his résumé of opponents, I still believe that Tom has more to his game than Jon at heavyweight, but regardless the drug usage and then all the other shit, his résumé still is a great one.

  • I had that knee lock up too and if I tried to force it it actually felt like the whole knee would just break ,rip and tear everything apart in there. For a few years I could pop the knee back into place but it had to be operated on in the end. Still have to be careful with that knee as it can still happen but not as easily as before.

  • tom got that dog in him. the dudes made it to the 2nd round only once in 9 fights. 8 wins 8 KOs. he got fight of the night 4times in a row in lmk it. his one loss was a fluke that resulted in him returning to the cage equipped with a bionic leg that increased mobility, the stability of his attacks, made him more versatile, and capable of kicking heads off shoulders. dudes top tier

  • Knowing that he litterally stopped fighting to work a regular person job to provide for his family , we are so lucky his family beleived in him and allowed him to return to fighting , potentially the best heavyweight ever. Speed and awareness of available shots is unprecedented amd his takedown timing and commitment is top notch 👌 i think jones is fully aware that tom is the next phenom and i cannot wait for that matchup as it could go either way with jones' fight iq and experience definitely a 50/50 fight. Hopefully we see it before jones is past it. Jones oblique could be the answer?
