    • It's interesting cause in the end it boils down to one's individual ego, their ''core of existence''. Can it be simply stated that either Aang or his friends and previous avatars are wrong? I don't think so. There is that pull inside of Aang to do it differently, the way he truly and fundamentally thinks is right. He asked for advice of others but in the end it doesn't sit well with him at a very deep level. Whether he'd be convinced by others or not, there's not really a completely objective ''good'' or ''bad'' decision - but there are decisions and consequences that we hopefully feel the least regretful about. And they are i believe, heavily tied to our very own core of existence.

      @vertical5044@vertical50444 ай бұрын
    • @@vertical5044 While admittedly true, Aang also refuses to listen to others' advice despite seeking it. Regardless of whether or not he made the correct decision your mind in, he certainly wasn't objective about it, which I think is more important then one's core, fundamental beliefs.

      @yotuel9064@yotuel90644 ай бұрын
    • @@aab1254 I don't think seeking someone's advice automatically means that you accept whatever it is they say. If i'm say.. hungry, that won't translate into me wanting to eat the first thing i see or smell. One can be hungry for food or advice and still make a decision (by picking or not picking) as to what might individually satisfy him. When it comes to objectivity, what truly is objective? I don't mean to say nothing is, but surprisingly huge amount of things can be subjective. Have one hundred people eat the same tasting apple type and their reactions may wary. Apple is always close to objectively the same but people's reaction to that apple not necessarily. Some may find the apple too sweet or not sweet enough, too sour or not sour enough, the color or texture might be off for them. Or it might be just right. Some may not even taste it as they don't like this fruit, where others could devour it and want more. ''he certainly wasn't objective about it, which I think is more important then one's core, fundamental beliefs.'' Do you know that you deeming objectivity more important than yourself could also be considered your core, fundamental belief? I don't think it's right or wrong again, it just exists. Same as Aang beliefs. Does he get influenced by other people in the show? Certainly. Does he also influence others? Absolutely yes. But just because people influence each other, doesn't mean that they have to be a fully maleable entities with no moral and belief backbone.

    • What I like about this is that it highlights Aang's fatal flaw; selfishness and impulsiveness. Air Nomads have killed. And not just Avatar Yangchen but an Air Nomad called Kelsang. He was outcast from the Nomads though for it. Avatar Yangchen's words of wisdom hit a lot harder after you read her books.

  • Yangchen's words hit pretty hard. Her books are pretty insane but basically she was an Air Nomad Avatar who stood on BUSINESS. She killed. She took life when necessary. Especially after a combustion bender killed her bison. And by killed...I mean the bison fcking exploded. She's why I think Airbendering is so OP and deserves more respect. Yangchen even knew techniques that would cause someone's lungs to collapse in the blink of an eye, she could slam the weight of the sky on someone, she had an Airbender powered scream that shook the spirit oasis, and she could take the Air out of someone's lungs. I'm of belief that Nomads are nonviolent simply because they know how dangerous their element is compared to the other benders... after all...all it takes to kill, is a little shot of air. As Aang himself demonstrated against the buzzardwasp.

    • It's a thing that martial artists/fighters and, nowadays, (responsible) gun owners learn and take to heart: when you know how easy it can be to hurt or even kill someone, you choose to avoid confrontation and conflict, and never escalate. See how when Gyatso was cornered and desperate, he gave up pacifism and took out god knows how many firebenders during the comet (even if at the expense of his own life). When the power difference is that big, you have to be the bigger man and avoid violence.

  • Something I love about Aang getting advice from the past avatars, is that none of them tells him to kill. He still interprets it as kill the firelord, but it takes another to show him how to defeat without killing. They say to be decisive, enact justice, shape your destiny, and do what it takes to save the world. None are saying to kill, but it can easily be interpreted as that. When Aang learned what he did from the lionturtle, he had his new option besides killing.

  • Avatar Yangchen’s wisdom is the most interesting to me. She believes, as Aang does, that all life is sacred and that the taking of life is morally wrong. Yet she still counsels him that ending Ozai’s is necessary for the world to balance itself. Despite popular opinion, a wrong can make a right. Being bound to one set of morals and ethics limits and constraints your actions, and becomes just another weapon to be used against you.

  • Just to give some real world context about the Lion Turtle - there is something called "The World Turtle" myth. Many Eastern religions including Buddhism and Hinduism, as well as some pagan and Native American belief systems have myths about the world being on the back of a giant turtle. The show creates its own interpretation of this myth, making it a "Lion Turtle". This is also why June's mole (Lyla) is unable to smell Aang while he is on the Turtle. The Lion Turtle's scent is literally the base scent of the world. Side note: Also why there are nearly no flat earthers in the East. Even in the myths the world is spherical 😅

  • "If only she knew sandbending earlier". Tbh I think the reason Toph got so good at sandbending, is because of what happened earlier. I think she blames herself for what happened to Appa. She never wanted anything like that to happen again.

  • One thing I love about Avatar is how the shit show is actually inherited from their past lives. For example, Yang Chen's action caused the Dark Spirits to go on rampage. Which inturn made Kuruk ran around and clean up the mess. Thus causing rise of factions due to "perceived" Negligence from Kuruk. Which directly caused Kiyoshi headaches which she tackled by taking her home away. Thus allowing the Earth Kingdom to be very fractured. Which led to Roku going around and fixing that. Thus allowing Sozen the brilliant plan of conquering the Nation. Roku's inability to stop Sozen caused The Hundred year war. Which Anng had to clean up.

  • As a kid, we love going back to the action and confrontations, but as an adult...we still love going back to the action and confrontations, but we heavily treasure the emotional moments. In the past, as a kid if you say your favourite scene was Iroh and Zuko's reunion and others would probably go "Yeah that was good, but not as great as -Blankety blank-" Which would usually be a fight of some sort. But as an adult, you mention the Iroh and Zuko scene and almost every person will go "Yeah. That was the best. I cry every time"

  • I don't mind that Aang is the kind of person who doesn't want to kill, but it's so inconsistent, because he's clearly killed a lot of people, and so did the Monks, there were dead bodies of fire benders all over the air temple.

  • To defend the past avatars for only offering wisdom instead of their opinion, the reason why they only offer wisdom/advise is because if the avatars are about harmony and balance, straight up telling someone what to do is taking away their free will. They offer wisdom so that hopefully the avatar asking them advise can reach a conclusion of their own accord with their won beliefs/opinions/thoughts. That's how I always saw that scene.
