To make this even better, you should try hooking dum-e’s fire sensing abilities to your security cameras! Edit: A good way to do this would be to give Dumm-E a large set of paths he can take to move all around the shop. Then, a camera on him would tell him if something was in front of him. The security cameras would tell him where the fire is using numbers, such as the showroom might be 1. Then, using the paths and a pathfinder A.I., he would use the best route to get there and get the job done.
That would be awesome but the calculations to move the robot to the burning location are crazy
@@flobuilds I don't think it would be this hard. You'd of course need at least two cameras, but calculating 3D coordinates based on the difference in the image and then move the robot to face these coordinates should be doable.
@@togamid hed probably want to upgrade the gpu power on his sever and then run openCV on the that rather than an arduino, then they could also smooth out the motion (requires a lot of math to prevent robot motion from being jerky). It would be really cool!

One of the basic instructions for using fire extinguishers is to aim at the base of the fire. The mannequin wasn't extinguished because the robot was aiming at the flames.

Once it sees fire, sweep down while spraying, so it reaches the base of those flames. Also, 2 cameras, so it has a wider view. Can compare frames between them for motion, so it determines fire faster.

Awesome Work Guyz🔥. The only thing I am missing is the responsiveness of Dum-E as it has to first look around to find the fire. If you could connect external cameras (Like cctv) to Dum-E's vision it would be much faster.

Are you guys sure some of those sequences weren't simply hard-coded? Sometimes the robot swayed before putting the fire out, and other times it just went straight for it without doing a scan sequence This reminds me of the time when a teacher said to me: "We've got stakeholders who want to see a demo of your UR5 so far... in 2 days". I was working on this advanced program in which the various parts just wouldn't work together, so I rewrote it into a smaller package. That meant I was doing the vision with my eyes instead of with the webcam, and that worked ok for the demo :P What I suspect you did here was programming the positions for those torches instead of making the robot do a search pattern, which could take long to code, and long for the robot to find all the fires

I wish it had 360 cameras... Instead of scanning it slowly or can't see upper or below, it can detect fire faster... Another advantage is when the robot turned, it can detect obstacles such as pillars or a person (don't want to get a bruise tho)... By putting a fire more quickly, the danger can be avoided faster... 7:32 if that's really autonomous, then it's amazing how they made it look at possible fire from different directions to extrapolate the fires location. It really makes it look like a curious little bot, checking out the fire.

The idea is good but you cna't substitute the extinguisher very easily, plus the holes in the handle lowers it's structural resistance. The actuator should be redesigned imho. I would try to change it with a plier with sphere cusions and a gum contact part so the lever gets pressed but the extinguisher won't be "touched" in it's parts; plus: it would become compatible with any extinguisher (and not only)

To improve DUM-E’s efficiency, have him/it locate the base of the fire using its gyroscope (heat and flames rise; follow gravity=find base) or the camera locates the bottom of the fire. Then he’ll be effective for larger flames 🔥

One way to improve is allow the robot to move in a certain direction when it is putting out the fire. Hence the fire can be put out.
