I wanted so desperately to grow up as a kid, and now that I'm 20 I'm really letting it all sink in. Life sucks. But I'm glad I get to look back on my childhood with fondness and try to give that to my children.

    • Same age, same activities and devices plus Sega. I wished I was older back then and now I miss being younger. Over a decade ago, all my loved ones were alive. No responsibility other than school, and school was sometimes nice besides the homework. The economy was way better even tho I started complaining about it at 7. I had way more life and optimism back then. Now I have a full time job with bills and a bunch of chores I'm always behind on, with just a few hours of restless free time in between work and sleep. As most things in the world keep falling apart rapidly. The strength, wisdom and morality I acquire every year is worth growing up, but just barely. : (

  • i'm an Australian 2000s kid who grew up just watching ABC networks, so i don't relate to a lot of these. i grew up more with stuff like Mister Maker, Dirtgirl, Ruby Gloom, old Garfield specials and watching stuff on the internet, but even then, a few like Silly Bandz, the Club Penguin ad (despite never having played it), Wizard 101 and Trash Pak brought me back, man :) people used to trade and collect Trash Paks all the time at my primary school and put them on their pencils, and i remember seeing people either trading Silly Bandz or making bracelets with these things called Loom Bands all in a circle together. does anyone also remember Squinkies? they were kinda the same deal like Trash Pak, but they were these cute tiny little characters, usually animals and fairy-type things. i also remember Mighty Beans being a thing. they were these bean-looking capsules with metal balls in them, and their whole schtick was that you were supposed to roll them down a track and they'd race each other. people used to bring Zhu Zhu Pets to school too and they'd race them around or just show them off. it was nicer back then :)

  • It feels like there was more effort and heart put into entertainment back then, the escapism was the best! Things now a days seems souless and half assed. It's like the more technology gets advanced, the less people try and really make things good and genuinely entertaining. The compensations we made back then for the lack of high tech made us try way harder and the results were amazing. It was like the movie Avatar was the start of the end because everyone wanted that quality and they never stopped to think about the story or how real and aesthetically pleasing practical effects can be. Look at Spider-Man 2, that movie was a perfect mixture of CG and practical effects and it looked amazing for its time and the story was so good too! In my opinion, the 90's and the 2000's were the best times for escaping reality when needed. Now I can never escape because everything is political and completely transparent to the motive of the corporations funding everything. As much as this saddening, we still have places like KZhead and the Internet Archives to escape all the madness and I'm very grateful for that. Maybe someday we'll regain the soul we lost.

I remember my Gameboy color, my Sega Genesis, when the first KH came out, when we stopped using floppy disks, when DVDs became mainstream, being sent home from school on 9/11 and watching that footage on TV, playing with my bike and my Skip-it, my Easy Bake oven, running home after school to watch Toonami which was playing things like Tencho Muyo, DBZ, Gundam Wing and Outlaw Star…I guess I’m one of the old people now, but I still feel young at heart.
