Trailer Restoration - Repair and Restoration of my old Trailer

It is no secret that any housewifely man should have at least one trailer or a scamp. I had such a trailer, vintage trailer, but his condition made me want the best.
My friends and neighbors constantly borrowed it from me and returned it with scratches and not in the best condition.
I wanted to buy a new trailer, but after seeing the prices, I quickly changed my mind. I decided to give a second chance and a second life to my old trailer, so my camper trailer rebuild project was started.
In this video, I will share with you my little trailer recovery project.
The restoration of the trailer was very interesting and the result exceeded my expectations.
Of course, I will be very happy to read your comments and listen to your opinion.

  • Wow! I've done a few trailer refurbs, but that was the most complete, thorough and professional job I've ever seen! Well done, superb workmanship. It's a shame you didn't go for LED lights, but that's a small observation. Great video! :)

  • I think trailers are great fun to restore. I bought an old home-built one, threw away the wooden box body (rotten) and used the axle and draw-bar to create my own with a welded steel frame (black) aluminium sides and back (yellow) for visibility, LED lights for reliability. Then I bought a motorcycle which couldn’t fit in the trailer, so cut the trailer body in half and put in another mid-section to make it longer. A project is never finished! I really enjoy all your stuff, thank you for good videos.Les in UK 🇬🇧

  • I 've got one of these trailers, it's an "ERDE". My sister in-law gave it to me for free!, but I had to buy two new tyres, as the old ones were damaged and old.Good resto my friend.

  • you made it look so good, I don't think it should be used to transport stuff! Awesome work dude. Also, I appreciate the fact that you don't do retakes of when things fall, we know that stuff will fall and you should not pretend it didn't just so you would make a perfect video.

  • Nice restoration, I should have used betonplex for bottom and side panels. Also use a breaker cable for hook up.

    • It is an unbraked trailer, required to have a safety cable or chain, not a break-away cable like overrun-braked trailers do.

  • That was a great restoration of a nice trailer. The one thing I would have done differently is used LED taillights instead of incandescent. They are more reliable and last longer.

    • @@GBOB68 I don’t think so. I used all LEDs on my home made trailer. Any way the biggest advantage is their reliability. Very often you see trailers here in UK with only half their lights working (or less). My LED units have been flawless for a number of years. Les in UK

    • @@leslieaustin151 I didn't mean you shouldn't do it. I've got LED's retro fitted on my own trailer. Hence the statement I made above. I personally wouldn't use incandescent bulbs on a trailer as the vibrations tend to kill them pretty quickly, which I've realised through experience.

  • Wow-nice job 👍🏼 I resto-d my utility trailer yrs ago and when mounting the fenders l loaded the trailer heavy then mounted the fenders -so l knew the tires would never bottom out into the fender wells

  • After just looking at your video, i went to the back of my shop i had one just like yours, over 25 yrs old.. Took it all apart and replaced the O-Rings works just great, only thing it weights about 80 Lbs,use to pick it up with one hand now i need a chain fall to help me lift it up.

  • Turned out nice. Abit overworked for a utility vehicle but looks good! I did similar job to my 1969 trailer, but it had more frame rust and needed brake job and such. Will replace the wooden bed next year. Will do for now.

  • Great job. Reminds me of doing the same type of job on my home built trailer over the years since it was built in 1981. The new couplings we get here have a notice on them not to use the top holes for mounting just the side bolt holes. I think you should add side bolts as well and maybe make a D handle that uses the top bolts. Makes it easier to move around and you can also use it for a tie down. Nice job on bringing the trailer up enough so it tows level, makes the combination of trailer and vehicle look like someone cares. Also like the no music/talking format:) Thanks jb

  • Very nice job. Have in mind that, by regulation, a trailer in Europe must have red reflective triangles on the back side and a safety steel cable or chain connecting the trailer and the trailer coupling on the car, as a safety measure.

  • Interesting axel. The hitch’s here I’ve seen use 4, 1/2” bolts. That doesn’t look very strong. I’m surprised it’s not attached through the sides.
