    • The camera is kind of racist. It comes down to algorithmic bias and it's the result of the images being fed to the software being mostly of white people. It's also the reason why the iphone had trouble with the Scottish accent.

  • Most webcams with movement following technology don't recognise dark skinned people, same for auto focuses which recognises faces and before the 70s technicolor photos where designed for bright skin, so if you were dark skinned than on the photo you're just a deep black blur. Technology is racist all the time. When I worked in IT, we couldn't make the digital recording system understand the high pitched voice of an Afghan doctor. He spoke clearly and with hardly no accent, but the system just wouldn't understand a single word.

  • Sitting here with my iPhone 11 which this week has decided that the contact named Mum and Dad is no longer certain, so now it’s Maybe: Mum and Dad. And another contact that’s been in there since my iPhone 4 days has had his name just magically disappear from my recent messages list. It’s just his number now. All these years later and they’re still screwing up constantly.
