I love how wheeler comforted him after that mess up. A great captain
no actually Wheeler said him "try to aim corner next time"
still the epitome of a great captain
Daniel St. Martin that's another reason he's are captain
Didnt he also fight his own mate at practice lol
lownrgy that was corner
When you can't stop scoring
It can't be healthy anymore. He needs help. Addiction is not a joke.
Get On Wayne's Level hmmmmmmm
sure looks that way!! didnt look like he was trying to clear it. looks more like YES A WIDE OPEN NET, then....................... whoops! if you look closely he almost puts his arms up..
Hahahahaha funny your commentary, t'es un malade avec ton commentaire !
Looool that was absolute muscle memory
sure looks that way!! didnt look like he was trying to clear it. looks more like YES A WIDE OPEN NET, then....................... whoops!
The pain of being one of the greatest shooters today, I'm sure he meant to clear it, but you're right, absolute muscle memory
The sniper instinct betrayed him. Poor Laine
I think he just flubbed it. He was trying to put it over the net, IMO.
Why the hell would you try to shoot it over your own net when you can either just hold on to it or redirect it where it's a lot less likely to end up in your net. He even raises his hand to celebrate for a split second, like a less dramatic version of that Japanese player.
Eric Forsyth yeah, you're right. Changed my mind after watching his post-game interview. It was indeed the Japanese player all over again. In some ways more dramatic because this isn't a Japan team that's not expected to finish in the top 10 in the olympics. This is the NHL where you get paid $millions to NOT PUT THE PUCK IN YOUR OWN NET, lol. At least Bryan McCabe looked like he was attempting to clear it.
Yeah, and Loui Eriksson made a slightly errant pass to a team mate who wasn't on the same page, while Colin Miller just had bad luck handling the puck when trying to take it behind his own net. This is by far the worst of the year, but he'll get over it, I'm sure.
PETE HELLINAS took me comment
Nicest one timer oilers have had all year ..
😂😂
It was a rebound but ok
Lmao!
Bear made u guys lose 0playoffs
Feel bad for Laine. And good on Wheeler for consoling him. I loved Wheeler on the Bruins, but happy that he is a great captain for this team
AJAX BEATZ For the longest time I thought there were two Wheelers lol. I thought the one on Boston retired and the Jets drafted. Did Wheeler breakout as a player in Boston or Winnipeg?
Chi City Maddhouse Winnipeg. In Boston he played good but not like he his now, which is scoring 60-70 points yearly.
+Chi City Maddhouse definitely in Winnipeg. He was drafted by the Coyotes, traded to Boston, then traded to Winnipeg
Drafted by the Coyotes, refused to play for us. Forcing Phoenix to trade him. I've never liked Wheeler since but I like what he did with Laine there.
Let's keep in mind Laine is a 18 year old man, he's going to grow into the NHL style of checking.
Anyone else have this recommended at the start of 2019-2020 season
Ye lol
Wtf
LMAO
Lol the reason I'm here too
Me
Man, the title doesn't lie. He really does snipe that lmao
Benny Bruschinsky just commenting on the profile pick. Love that car!!!
That Guitar Guy haha, thanks man. Wish it was my car :p
I think he actually shot the puck at net instinctively. Doesn't look like he was trying to shoot the puck behind the net to clear it, it makes no sense. Unless he was trying to clear it to the right of the net which makes even less sense, he shanked that in net thinking he was on offense but suddenly realized that he's playing defense lol. Nobody is even near him to make such a haste decision so I don't think he was trying to clear it. Tough break for the kid.
Timmy Tom it was just a reactionary thing
Seamus Belisle I agree, that's kinda what I said haha. Tough break for the young kid, he'll be fine
Timmy Tom person was right on him man, but yeah I think he generally just went to put it in off instinct, happens to guys that are only 18 and pure goals scorers I presume
I just commented essentially the same thing. He had a brain fart and forgot what end of the ice he was on. That wasn't a clearing attempt, that was a shot on goal.
theguyishere Yup, can't be anything else or i'd be even more worried about the kid if that was him trying to play defense lol.
Boi looked like he was tryna snipe it top shelf... What a beaut! 18th of the year for Laine!
Haha.. Oh boy!
September remember when the warriors blew a 3-1 finals lead
September warriors suck
Are you sure you know where top shelf is located? lol
Muscle memory at its finest. He didn't try to put it behind the net, he even raises his stick after it went as if to celebrate, it's pure instinct, didn't even realize what he was doing until it was done.
I don’t think him putting up his stick was him almost celebrating. I think it was him just being shocked at what he did
That's not muscle memory for a defenseman lol
@@lightlybatteredjustcrispy He ain't a defensemen
The stick raising was frustration.
he might have lost them one game, but he's won them about 10
yeah of course, thats just one rookie mistake... once he will gets his 40 - 50 goals for his first year, people might forgive him ;)
Treavor Mcgraw the guy is already at 17 (18 if you count that one xD ) after only 32 games on his first fcking year in the nhl.
jacenperson Look now! 43 goals as of the 18th of March! That ties him to be the top leading goal scorer in the league!
Joking aside...I feel for the kid, He must be so embarrassed and what not...Jets are struggling hard just like the Leafs...Hope we can both get going and do better soon
Winnipeg should be doing much better considering all the seasoned vets they have. Leafs are competing at the correct level
When are the leafs not struggling?
3 years later, still true
Have to give props to Wheels for his leadership by reinforcing Laine's self confidence, the kid obviously felt terrible about the mistake, but the Captain made sure he tried not to sweat it that much as there was still plenty of time left.
The only way Edmonton scores
*2nd in their division* Can't trash talk the oilers this year bud.
blockland30 how many top 5 draft picks do you need jets have had 1 since being back the oilers have had one for like the last 6 drafts
Ryan B now that they have the next Gretzky they are making the playoffs this year probably
Traxxas Boys we weren't even talking about Toronto maybe if you read something you would realize how stupid you are
Sean Avery true but like with the Leafs, poor management certainly played a part in the last decade for Edmonton. And no, it took 4 first overalls to get here...2 of which are gone
Laine is a talented goal scoring sniper. The Jets should have know this and never left him alone in front of the net
Anyone watching before the 2019-2020 season. People don’t forget lol
I come back to rewatch every now and then cause the idea of laine being unable to resist scoring on a perfect rebound is just hilarious to me
Everyone whose seen this so far is watching from before the 2019-20 season.
shooters gotta shoot
didn't see matthews do that.
Victoria Dixon that's cuz Matthews can't even find the net.
That Guitar Guy u obviously don't keep up to date on player statistics...
That Guitar Guy like last night?
Person 123 actually I do, last I checked laine had 5 more than Matthews.
That Guitar Guy laine has also played 5 more games and is on a way better line not to mention the fact that goals aren't everything
Get this kid in Edmonton, he obviously wants to be there
No one wants to be in Edmonton. Lol
goalie2998 lol true
The announcer claiming he was trying to put it behind the net - not a chance - he saw an open net and he fired - it was just a Brain cramp - he meant to fire it right in there
I love how the commentators vouch for him. When he was legitimately looking at the net with his stick pointed towards the net.
I love how all these leaf fans jump on the first chance they get to say Matthews is better and Matthews wouldn't do that after one mistake that a lot of star players have made. He's only 18 and is still learning the game. And great job by wheeler to talk to laine after that great captain
Lol at all these Leafs fans chirping laine for making a mistake many good NHL players have made. I.E Patrick kane (106 Points 2016) which funny enough also happened against the oilers.
Sportsnet youtube comments are always a big ole dumpster fire.
foist because Matthews got chirped on a regular basis with all the damn leaf haters out there. Laine is a great player but the Matthews comparisons come up.
yeah youtube comments is cancer, people love to make fun of him..... because they know how good he is and how badly they would want him in their team (especially the leafs).
sam93931 no thanks I am very happy with Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner. Mitch Marner has all the skill of but defensively sound and blocks shots. Laine is one dimensional.
Keith Weighell leafs have too many center, laine would have been a better fit.
You gotta feel for the rookie after that one. 😓
Lmao, right after I literally just watched an own goal compilation
Lol and now
that's some funny stuff right there
algorithms? xd
I felt so bad for Helle. He just looks up at Laine like "why, man?"
Vastustajilla Tapparan värit voiko liittyä mitenkään?
He is only 18. He is learning to snipe in the right net.
It's only a matter of time before Matthews gets four on his own net
alecathesensfan #saltyjetsfan
BESTNEWKZheadNEWS look at his name.
Matthews-21 games-33 points Laine-34 games-30 points
Poor kid. It's a rookie mistake and it happens. He's just got to put it behind him. Playing devil's advocate but If you're gonna criticize Leafs fans for chirping Laine, 90% of you were doing the same through Matthews' goal drought. Long story short; Don't dish it out if you can't take it.
Arcade Regiment not very many rookies make this kind of mistake. Maybe bad passes but not sniping a goal top shelf on his own net.
Darryl Stein yet he has a 40 goal season and is in the conference finals tho
Darryl Stein he played in tappara wich has allmost the same colours as oilers so that could be one reason why he messed up
Arcade Regiment long story short your a frickin idiot. Didn't he score 40 goals in his rookie season? Also more well rounded then laine.
loser bringing up leafs fan for no reason?
Am I the only one that feels bad for the kid?
BlessedBeast1 Um, he's still on his ELC
Connor Klomparens Yeah but he got a 3 or 4 million dollar signing bonus
soaringbullet he gave the bonus to his parents
Lewis13 Yes
What a beauty of a goal. Goaltendy was widely open. lol I've been waiting for something like this to happen for years. Finally
You know the feeling when you react on something and immediately after that realise that it was a bad move
Gotta See It: Laine (17) teases Matthews (12) with own goal.
That was a great shot on net. I think for a split second that it has the opponents net. He is a sniper indeed
He have scoring skills just by instincts and nothing else... he even put his stick up like celebrating his goal
With your adrenaline flowing, you get caught up in the moment. When the puck shot out quickly to him,it was the training that took over. It's muscle memory. Empty net, shoot puck. He honestly feels had about it, but it happens. Don't lose sleep over this
Definitely better then matthews!
spiral u say that now but 5 years down the road Matthews will be top 5 in points, one of the best face off guys in the league and a great two way style player while all laine will be able to do is score
Person 123 im a leafs fan. Thought the sarcasm was pretty obvious but i guess not.
spiral lol I couldn't tell, my bad
Kusinuppi thank you, people also need to learn how to use their/they're/there
spiral *than
Its good to see Blake wheeler come right over and talk to the kid. That's a true leader right there.
Horrible, horrible, horrible! Trade him right now! How's my Habs fan impersonation?
terrible actually... well its good for the retarded ones
Too bad the habs are 19-6-3 1st in the league
too bad he's talking about the fans and not their current season record
grandladybug too bad we have 24 cups "grandladybug" is this a joke are you like 14?
Grigori Rasputin this is why no one likes you.
Wheeler is a great teammate. Very nice how he went to comfort him right after.
Well damn. Shows you how well he can score on anybody. Even his own team!
Connor Mcdavid assisted Patrick Liane's goal!!
That chemistry
what he has 2 hat tricks?
Someone should assist you. You have to spelling mistakes in a single name.
Joona Myllynen thats a good idea tank you grammer Nazi!
You're welcome. But what makes me a nazi, may I ask? I don't believe you know the meaning of the word. Write "Patrik Laine". Three attempts. Sorry, two spelling mistakes, not "to". You didn't even notice that. And it's "Thanks, that's a good idea". Btw., I know what grammar is and that was basically ok. But what the heck is grammer? Sorry, I really don't know. English is my language number 4.
Matthews would never do that.
Zeus - Laine is better
Good job, resort to insulting the other player.
wrong
Batflip 09 wow. you are quick to defend him at every corner. if matthews did that, you would crucify him. but matthews has pig nose so he's a bust, makes sence.
theyre 2 completely different players lmao
Leafs fan here. Not saying anything because knowing our luck it's gonna happen next game. Cool to see Wheeler at work at captain and to know not even Laine's own team is safe from his shot.
TheCanadianLannister so true
As an Edmonton fan I can say this. While it's nice to win a game, I don't like winning this way
Colinator4321 classy
Treavor Mcgraw you have no life ... you are on every video ripping on every other canadian teams best player ... while praising the leafs and matthews .... i dont have to say anything but look at the standings and look at whos leading the league in points ... only time will tell..
Treavor Mcgraw cant even tell what you are typing .... gonna say it again ... look at the standings ... and points leader ...
love how he started to celly after too but then realized that was his own net...
forget snipers and two way forwards, this guy is a Two way sniper
Imagine if he rifled it bar down lol
FeelsBadMan
Lmfao. that ain't going to add to your goal count! 😂
Goal scorer's instinct. He thought he was on offense when he saw the loose puck and open net.
Following ehlers footsteps.
Damn nice shot that hand eye coordination
It’s weird to see this again after all that’s changed since since then.
What a beautiful thing, how have I've never seen this fantastic goal.
Even his own goal is a highlight goal!
Get the puck on his stick with a empty net what else is he gonna do ?
> "Laine just wants to clear it behind the net..." > Laine releases the shot pointing square in the middle of the net... yeah, no.
the ultimate irony here is that patrick liane scored on every single nhl team while he was in Winnipeg, indcluding Winnipeg, except one. And that team is the columbus blue jackets
Dont show this to conspiracy theorist there heads will explode
Damn I feel bad
Now we wait for the Toronto fans
"Give me more ice time or I'll start scoring for the other team!"
imagine this happening in a game 7 of the stanley cup finals
Nice shot. Wrong net though
I was hoping McDavid would get a point from this. Crosby got an assist off of Luongo scoring on himself so this shouldn't be any different according to those same rules. Ah well, a wins a win. Glad to see everyone done comparing Laine to McDavid when they're 2 totally different players.
He gets the goal
lAmCanad1an mcdavid and laine are both trash Matthews is way better
Cale Hutchings how's the crack taste?
Totally different scenario the play on which crosby got the assist could be looked at as an unintentional bank shot (just because it hit off the goalie doesnt always mean own goal), this however was a guy sniping it into his own net. Why would you even want players getting an assist for no reason?
This might be my favorite nhl highlight
Thanks for bumping us back into 2nd ya fuckin hero.
What a snipe 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I love this guy I feel bad for him but you won't the only guy that did it
Poor guy looked so upset. Don't worry bud, you are destined to put many in the right net over your career.
He should be remembering that hug from the captain after those recent comments he made in 2019. That was muscle memory being on the open net side - it was no attempt to clear.
look, joking aside, he's fine. Bobby Orr did the same thing once. he'll bounce back.
Laine is bobby orr now?
StanOfGB I'm saying the stars make mistakes too. only you can turn that into me making Laine into Bobby Orr talent wise
It just needed to happen McDavid feeds, Laine scores
It was Letestu, not McDavid.
McDavid had the secondary assist
It was unassisted because Laine scored it. Letestu was the only person to get a point on that goal.
@@alexshehan6260 Now they are teammates.
Winnipeg chanted "Laine's Better" about a month ago. Auston Matthews at least doesn't put it in his own net
Great release!
Gary Lawless cried himself to sleep last night.
I think Matthews is much better than Laine but I honestly feel bad for the guy.
You know this was the last leg for some pretty spicy parlays put there!
wheeler comforting him is so great. what a great captain.
This kid just can't stop scoring, maybe it's a disease
Every since he was a kid, Laine has always wanted to play for the Edmonton Oilers. Whoops.
JCTiggs he is a kid
Hayyan Ishaq pretty sure he doesn't consider himself a kid anymore 😕
Beautiful rebound goal. Kid has skill
That did not look like an accident to me it was just pure instinct when he sees a chance like that lmao
Has to keep up to Crosby somehow.
I think by just waiting until January would accomplish that. Crosby is known to drop off a lot on his goal scoring when the season withers on.
Timmy Tom I wouldn't say, Crosby is lighting the league up right now 20 goals in 22 games.
It's remarkable indeed but the grind of the season hits EVERYONE. Remember what a tear Kane was on during the first half of the season last year? He dropped off by A LOT during the second half. This is why Ovechkin is so special, he's one of the only guys in the league where he gets better as the season progresses.. Crosby will drop off in goal scoring, doesn't mean he won't be tearing it up with his assists and what not. I don't see him scoring 50 goals (I hope he does though, it's been too long since that's happened).
At this point he has to keep up with Pasta as well.
Your information seems off. In 76 regular season games under Mike Sullivan, Crosby has scored 52 goals and 47 assists. What people are failing to realize is his goal scoring has been hot since December of last year when you compare it with his career average...
BUT HEY, PATRICK KANE SCORED INTO HIS OWN NET, WAIT, AGAINST THE OILERS TOO?, BUT YEAH LOOK AT HIM ANYWAY AND NO ONE EVEN REMEMBERS...
Scarce Is Not Fat I mean the Kane oilers own goal was just bad luck and a bad pass, this was a nice goal, just in the wrong net.
Scarce Is Not Fat Laine I truly believe was shooting to score... the reason why I say that because you can see Laine raise his stick to celly and realized what he done Kane was just bad stupid luck lol I'm a leafs fan and I do feel bad for the kid...
The difference is that Kane is _American_.
Some guy on the Ducks (then Mighty Ducks) did the same thing years ago in Anaheim--the only difference was that he had full control of the puck and goalie tried to stop it. If anyone remembers who that player was, you're the best.
ChachaChapati Getzlaf? Perry? Delaney? Ryan? Who was it?
Alex Ander That's the problem; I don't remember. Don't think it was any of those guys.
Ben Lovejoy?
Why do you have to put that link to the other vid in the middle of the video...
Ovi AF wow. What a shot. 😂😂😂
Auston who?
adam house Auston NotSnipingHisOwnTender
chris kirkham even Matthews can't score on his own net
adam house thats right. Because he actually uses his brain when he's on the ice.
chris kirkham hope you know that I was being sarcastic over the Auston who thing lol
You see?? he's a natural goalscorer... and greetings from finland btw
Matthews is next to do this sincerely, A sens fan
lmao that looked a bit intentional but im sure it wasnt
Nice snipe Laine but wrong net !!!
True if it was the oilers NET TRIGGERED OILERS!!!
We still love you #lovefromSWEDEN
Scheifele is such a good captain. Good on him for going right to the rookie and talking to him.
i feel bad for him but it was a poor decision to do that he should have skated with the puck not put it behind the net
*in the net.
Taylorover9001 - The Cando Railfan no i meant behind
When you want to go home early because the fortnite season ends in 2 hours so you make sure there's no overtime.
🤣
This makes me feel so bad for him
So did he score on the others after this?
