Devoted muslims have allot of discipline. Praying 5 times a day stopping whatever you are doing is difficult sometimes. Especially the morning prayer is difficult as you usually have to get up while you are sleeping and then go back after the prayer. You have to respect woman and don't treat them like a paper towel. So you won't hunt them for a short pleasure. No drinking and no drugs. If you already have a disciplined life is easier to apply it on other things.

This is very interesting. I’ve always been fascinated by how many religious fighters there are. I always put it down to a psychological trick where they think they have someone on their shoulder (eg. I prayed, so I will win). However, Joe’s suggestion that it’s related to discipline is fascinating - certainly very plausible. 👍

It's a combination of both. Believing that God is in control so you do your best and leave the rest to God. So whatever happens once you do your best, that's what God wanted, and that's better for you than what you want. This helps deal with the stress of high level competition. The second part is the discipline which comes from avoiding things that society would say are fun or relaxing but which religion tells them will inevitably harm them. This means less distraction, more focus, and eyes constantly set on the prize.

Devoted muslims have allot of discipline. Praying 5 times a day stopping whatever you are doing is difficult sometimes. Especially the morning prayer is difficult as you usually have to get up while you are sleeping and then go back after the prayer. You have to respect woman and don't treat them like a paper towel. So you won't hunt them for a short pleasure. No drinking and no drugs. If you already have a disciplined life is easier to apply it on other things.
