1949 Pontiac that we unseized in the previous video, we work on fixing the brakes by pulling the wheel cylinders apart and rebuilding them and take the Pontiac for a drive.

Thats what I like about the old vehicles you don't have to be a parts changer. You can actually fix it.
I still have my brake cylinder hone last used on the rears of a 1992 Astro. That era is about the last where you could still fix things yourself without special training.

We hit the crossroad with this. This guy .... Resurrects pre and post war as well modern cars, wires LS motors, Chops, works on all ignition and electrical systems and voltages, Welds ANYTHING! Fabricates interiors! I see Brent and Scott from Cold War Motors are the ONLY TWO that would see each other in passing and give each other a head nod. So many others are fairly good in their niche " watch me buy this carbureted car and drive it home 300 miles"," watch me get this free thing running" , "watch me put my friends car on a lift and and do a post purchase inspection ( and use the floor as my tool tray)". Best part : I was all in and really was like - Are you going for a rip without the German Short hair?? - wouldn't you know that Brent played us like that and Pedro (?his name) got to go for the ride with his Dad. BTW , thanks for the Channel!

I still think that those motor mounts are shot!! It really smoothed out after running it a while. Wish I lived closer, that one is a car I would like to have.

Brent, nice to see someone that still can repair drum brakes. Too many out there don't know and may have never seen them. Makes me feel really old, started my career when 4 wheel drums were standard, thanks. LMAO!
Your old Poncho video brings back memories of my 53 convertible. The brakes were Bendix by then, and the carb looks different(mine was a 2bbl. stomberg. In the seventies you could buy just the rubber cups and do brakes really cheap.love the fast-back body, never saw one before !
@@jeromebreeding3302 I learned how to rebuild brakes on an International Scout 80. They are the same as late 50’s Jeep’s. I could finish a complete brake job in my sleep.
I just went with a Power Disc Conversion on a 53 BelAir HT, as well as New Floor. I’ve learned that if you throw enough money at it, it’ll work! Problem is, the monies running out. Lol
I cut my teeth on drum brakes with a 57 Chevy. No dual master cylinder, no proportional valve, no self adjusting shoes, simpler all the way around.
@@jeromebreeding3302 My 53 BelAir will have Power Disc, primarily because these old cars didn’t stop that well with shoe brakes. I plan to eventually replace the rear differential with a Disc brake setup. But the front Disc is a little more complicated and expensive. Now I need a proportion valve because of the efficiency of Disc versus Shoe brakes. Kinda wished, I’d left it alone except that the cylinders and lines are all bad. So I cleaned it out, all new parts and lines. My motivation and energy with this car is different every day, then there’s the Finances. Lol
It's so great to see you bring those old cars and trucks to life you are truly a great mechanic I am 79 working on 80 the first car I drove was a 52 Pontiac Catalina my dad bought it new had the straight 8 engine and 3 speed coloum shift.
Brings back memories, snuck my first car out for a drive before I had my D.L. . Got out of town hit the brakes and the metal brake line burst. Scared the crap out of me, limped it home. Learned to rebuild drum brakes and replace lines, bleed etc. before I could drive. Dad gave me an extra drum brake tool 35 years ago, still got it.
When I saw it go down the road I actually stood up and applauded you. Excellent job, Sir. Art

Just amazing how you stuck with it and brought the old Pontiac back to life. My dad was a real Pontiac lover and if he was still alive, he would have enjoyed the hell out of this video. He had a '51 and a '54 and he rebuilt both of those straight 8's and they always ran good and were very reliable. I really enjoy your videos Brent. Thanks

How very refreshing to find a you tuber who is a real repairman! Takes me back to when I first got started tinkering with my car in 1960, just after High School. My parents lived in a fairly uppity neighborhood, and our (new) High School didn't even have an auto shop classroom! I guess they didn't want to think about someone learning how to actually do something useful to themselves! Now, in my late 70s, I'm still happy to see someone like yourself actually build his own very special pickup. What triggered my nostalgia gene today was the rebuilding brake parts! I used to do that often on old cars I drug in from time to time. Hone the wheel cylinders, put in new cups, and clean up the pistons. It was a couple of years before I knew you could buy wheel cylinders new! Keep up the good work! And by the way, you can buy the parts for Pontiac, or Olds that you can't buy the identical part for a Chevy because Pontiac and Oldsmobile no longer have an interest in selling you a new car!

Henry Ford went from inline 4 to v8 because GM was killing it with the flat head straight six, nicknamed stove bolt 6. Highly reliable engines.

It’s funny how Americans and English see rust so differently. In the uk that car would most likely have been crushed years ago because it has some rust but here we are this chap is rebuilding the brakes and could probably take it out for a spin as is

Great job Brent. That is a really cool little car. Pontiacs had great chrome/stainless trim. Made Chevys look plain. Glad to see you stopped and picked up a hitch hiker. Pablo just loves to go for car rides. See if Rock auto sells "Mighty Vac" it is a hand held/operated brake bleeder. It's cheap and not only does it allow you to bleed your own brakes. It also allows you to check various parts for vacuum leaks. Thanks

I really like the way you show us doing all of the tasks when multiples of the same thing are being completed e.g. brake cylinders. The guy who runs a channel about rebuilding coaches, likes to show how he does a job with multiple parts which are the same, for example preparing spokes, by showing one in real time then the rest sped up. That way novices can see what he has to do and how he goes about it. Thanks.
Brakes are my specialty! But alot of people are terrified when it comes to replacing them! 🙂🇺🇸🇨🇦✌️

on bleeding the brakes on todays cars i use a clear hose and a bottle with a inch of fluid and work the peddle slow and watch the bubbles till they are gone its a one man job and works good last one i did was a 1976 c10
A cheap one man bleeder kit from the parts store, no jar no wasted fluid or spills. Easy peasy japaneasy !

I'm the type of person that appreciates the fact that you put a little bit of "know-how" and some "elbow grease" into it, and bam, you have it ready to roll down the road. Maybe some of that "General" spray paint, and that can by the Command Staff Car.

Currently doing brakes on my '58 Willys Panel Delivery. Honing cylinders until there are no pits. New kits, springs and shoes. Last guy in there did everything wrong. Thought I'd seen it all.
