  • This is weird, I had the same experience buying 1UZ engines. First one from a 92 SC400 out of a junkyard for $800... it snapped a timing belt 5 miles in. Second 1UZ came from an LS400 and have been driving it for the last 6 years on 8psi. AWESOME motors.

  • FYI - I used to own a 1992 Lexus SC400. The 1UZ motor for that year produced around 250hp but was bumped up to 290hp for later '90s models. The older motors are more desirable for modding and tuning due to stronger connecting rods. This motor is nigh impossible to find performance parts for and would've been a perfect match for TRD Tacoma pickups. I've read that a higher displacement variant of the 1UZ was used for the Supra Super GT -- so you know it's a solid motor. I'm baffled as to why Toyota didn't continue to explore the platform for sports and middle-weight trucks. Even more befuddling is the fact the motor was used for the Ironman Trophy Truck. Those engines were proven but never really explored outside of professional racing.

Spent $500 on wiring, $550 on an Inchworm t-case adapter, $200 on exhaust pieces and a muffler, $300 on radiator, e-fan and thermal switch. car only had 90k miles so all I did was a tune up with Toyota branded parts. 1uz cars were much more plentiful and cheaper back then.

    • Steve your comments are helpful. Can you say which transfer case worked for your 89 model? I believe, without confirmation, the manual trans 3.0 and 22re transfer cases will mate up to A341e (found in ls400) if you cut the A341e output shaft length. Can you say more about your success with an adapter? SC donor cars are less likely in my area. Thanks for your comments

      @kraptastic333@kraptastic3332 жыл бұрын
    • @@kraptastic333 They won't mate up without some sort of adapter. You need a way to bolt the two together. The "inchworm" adapter I used at the time was designed and marketed as a "prerunner" adapter to convert 1st generation tacoma prerunners to 4wd using an older gear driven tcase. (either 21 or 23 spline turbo case). They made the spline adapters for both. Inchworm isn't in business anymore but I think someone is still making and selling them through another company. I haven't had any issues with mine at all. Another way to do it is to find a 96-97 T-100 automatic transmission and transfer case. They were very unique because they used the same 3.4L/A340F combo the tacomas and 4runners used but the T100 was still a right side drop transfer case needed for pre-1995 trucks. (tacoma/4runner switched to the left side). It's 4wd output adapter will bolt right to the A340e from the Lexus once you cut the Lexus output shaft to length. However, it will have a chain driven transfer case, which is fine if you primarily street drive it and keep tire sizes under 35". Alternatively, the Jeep Aisin/Aw4 is the same as the A340 series too. I've seen a few swaps using it with a dana 300 t-case but I haven't done all the research to see what all has to be done. Hope this helps. I did my swap more than 10 years ago so it's hard to remember all the details.

    • @@stevew9247 thanks again Steve and I can't tell you how much your knowledge helps. A lot of people try to avoid being specific to cover their tracks. I'm confident I can go gear driven t case from a 22re or 3vze m/t pending "prerunner adapter" availability. And, if not, the less ideal chain t case and trans from a T100 will provide parts. Hope to contact you again as I move on it

I picked up a t100 transmission/tcase adapter for $55 at a pick and pull, and a donor ls400 car which had been run through a guardrail backwards. Also I have manual steering and wish to keep it that way so would I need a special serpentine belt or need to add an extra tensioner where the PS pump would have been? • 250HP is LOTS for this thing. If you really need more the VVTI variant bumps it up to almost 300HP. But my trucks not a sports car, so that 250HP is perfect, huge bump from original 150HP from the 3VZ. And keeping it in the Toyota engine family is exactly what I wanted.

  • Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I’m a bit of a Toyota purist, so I hope every LS swapped Toyota with a KZhead video burns to the ground. Anything worth doing, is worth doing correctly. LS swaps are great if you’re cheap, lazy, unoriginal and buy vehicles because social media dictates your decisions. On the other hand, those of us that have driven a 22RE powered Yota with 671,000 miles on a 500 mile road trip without hesitation probably wouldn’t have done so if it was “Powered by Chevy(and Dale!)” Ironically, the very same guys bitch and moan when I pop the hood in my 68’ Chevelle to reveal the TRD supercharged 3UR that makes more than 600 horsepower(at the wheels, that is). Of course an LS would have been easier but I might decide to drive to every state because I’ve never done that and want to take my Chevelle. I would do this without hesitation, because she’s “Powered by (the brilliant engineers that believe in doing things correctly employed by)Toyota Racing Development. I would sincerely apologize for the rant but it’s anyone with video about an LS swapped Toyota that truly owes an apology. May God have mercy on their souls.
