    • Brain is in overdrive trying to keep the pain down. That's why he noticed something he hadn't before. Happens when you experience something traumatic like that. I've had said experiences a good few times, one time when I was, idk, 4 or 5 years old and got in a car accident with my mom driving. which I still remember the event clearly. And a random detail like a billboard for like an auto insurance thing which is rather ironic. Or it could've been a like advertisement for a law firm. It was one of those 2.

He's gone on to be a great player so far! He was back to playing in about a month or so the second time and helped his team, The Washington Nationals, to a World Series Championship at the end of that season hitting with just 9 fingers! He was selected to his first All-Star Game this season. All of this is to say I hope you heal up just as well and very quickly! Good luck, man!!

  • This video is awesome!!! It was very interesting for me because I experienced a similar situation. I broke my 3rd metacarpal bone in December 2019. It was an clean oblique fracture of the shaft, so a metal plate in the shape of an inverted T was installed. After the surgery I had occupational therapy for a couple of months, at the time I had no idea what it was but it was great! They helped me to recovered 100% of movility and funtionality of my hand. The only negative thing is a rather large scar on the back of my hand, and a lump (the plate and the screw heads) in my case. Being a mechanical engineer myself, I spent a good deal of time reaserching this type of surgery and all the hardware envolved, it was fascinating! The speed of the recovery after this type of surgery is outstanding but you have to be patient and consistent with the excercises! Good luck with your recovery!!!

It was really disconcerting to hear the surgeon responding to people's questions in a calm and orderly way while simultaneously whaling into some guys knee with a hammer and chisel. If there was any moment that solidified my desire to become an engineer rather than a doctor, it was that. Going into the final year of my degree and I don't think I've used as many tools from a hardware store as doctors seem to.

It’s been about 3/4 a year since the accident and I remember everything from the accident. I was riding my bike, fell off because I was looking at a sunset, went dark for god knows how long. I was calm and collected when I “woke” up no matter the pain and sorrow around me, but when I saw my dads face, the pain and sadness kicked in. I can’t really remember the trip to the first hospital then the first hospital and going to the second. While at the second I waited from about 8 to about 12-1, then I went to the operation room. I wasn’t allowed to move a lot. I lasted till 5 on the countdown.

  • I feel your pain man, I just had my follow up for my broken leg. I was on a motorcycle, and a car cut me off. I hit the front of her car and went flying over the hood of her car. I broke my tibia and fibula in half, and the bottom part of my leg bone went through my calf. I had to get a tibial nail (which is basically a long rod that goes inside your tibia.) A plate and 13 screws to fix it. When the lady driving the car got out, she didn't even ask if I was ok she just said "you hit my car." I yelled at her to call an ambulance and she just said I don't have a phone. So I started to drag myself towards my phone that flew out of my pocket in the crash, and that's when I saw the police coming down the road sirens going. The officer came over to me to try to help stabilize my leg while the ambulance was on the way, and the lady kept trying to tell the officer that the crash was my fault and, asking when she can leave, and that she doesn't have time for this. It was crazy. Obviously they found her at fault and I'm dealing with her insurance right now.

I was 11 years old when it happened, and the thing that surprised my mom was my high pain tolerance, they had two doctors try and place my bone into place with no anesthesia, so two doctors twisting and pulling my arm to just place it one put to my other bone would have been painful, but not for me, I was so curious that I attempted to place my bones back in its place, the doctor didn't allow me tho. Just a story if what I experienced as a guy who had his bone snap in two.

You risk causing damage to blood vessels, muscles, ligaments/tendons, nerves, or cartilage. You also have little way of telling if there any already damaged muscle strands, ligaments, bones, etc. Unless you're completely alone without a chance of getting help, don't try this yourselves. Maybe if you're professionally trained, even then it isn't without risk.

  • when I as 16 I broke the same bone, the doctor said it was commonly known as a boxers fracture. But mine was one of the worst cases he has seen, with a 73 degree break. They tried to reset the bone but could only get it back to 35 degrees, it would take 3 surgeries to get is semi normal but as I live in South Africa with no insurance it would take $18257,67 for just the surgeries and that does not include post surgery treatment and or therapy. In the end of the day I did not get the surgery and the bone healed in an unnatural way, I can no longer draw or write for extended periods of time. I cannot work with heavy machinery or precision work. Work is hard to come by normally but with this it has become exponentially harder, Sorry for the long text I was just venting.

    • I mean I wouldn't call an ambulance for a broken finger, whether I'm in the US or anywhere where it's free or not as expensive. I'd have someone else drive me or drive myself so that the ambulance doesn't get a call for a not very life threatening thing. Fractured my finger years ago and we booked an appointment next day so I just dealt with the pain. Luckily it was at a camp with someone trained in basic medical stuff so they carefully wrapped my finger, all I did is just take an ibuprofen tablet every like 4 or 5 hours to dull the pain and actually slept well.
