Info from Licensor: "With the students a safe distance away, Dylan drives closer to the kitchen to get eyes on all the cats. It is quite unusual for the lions to come so close to the buildings - and not a place where we want them to get too comfortable. The female seems to be using the usually undesirable close proximity to humans and the buildings, to try and get the very horny male to leave her alone :) He seems quite determined however and decides to stick close to her to guard his mate. Male Lions have a small window of opportunity to successfully pass along their genes - so this is serious business and he won't give up too easily. Dylan eventually leaves the safety of his bakkie (Landcruiser pick up) to get into the kitchen. While he is joking about making a cup of coffee :) the aim is also to disturb the lions and get them to move off in order to get the camp safe for students, who are waiting outside to come in for coffee and breakfast. Many people are asking why there are no doors here and why Dylan is approaching the angry lion! Disturbing the lions is the only way to get them to move off - we can't have them occupy the main camp area all day, it will not be safe for students, so Dylan eventually goes closer to discourage them to back off and move away. Having observed them for quite some time on that morning, he was well aware that the male is only being protective of the female. He is not hunting for food, or looking for a fight - he is simply warning Dylan to stay away. This does not mean that there is no risk and that it was not a hairy situation - but Dylan understood the risk and acted accordingly - please keep in mind that Dylan is a trained professional with years of experience working and living in wild areas - DONT TRY THIS YOURSELF. Wild animals do NOT like human company for the most part and almost all animals can be shouted down or chased away with sufficient noise and standing your ground (this is true here in Africa at least). It is also true during daytime hours - if this was at night, we would not have allowed anyone to be on foot anywhere near them. Wild animals will only come into close proximity to humans of the benefit outweighs the risk for them - the elephants that leisurely come to drink from our water tanks are a good example of this. The female lions have moved through the camp a few times already - we are aware of each other, but mostly we leave them alone and they leave us alone. This is possibly also why the female in the clip is so relaxed while the male that does not easily come into the camp is more on guard. Dylan eventually made his coffee and after about 40 minutes managed to convince them to move off and leave the camp."

That first roar. 🦁😳Absolutely terrifying. And that's just from watching the video from the safety of my home! It's astounding that a male lion could be so aware of the human presence, and openly aggressive towards it, yet on countless safaris, the lions completely ignore open-top cars filled with humans. Amazing.
I think the last roar was the worst!
He was just being defensive, he wouldn't attack unless he felt threatened.
Interestingly, I just watched a video on that very subject. Lions don't attack those in the open top cars because a) they are used to the cars being there. Safaris have been going on for over a century now. They will have been around the entire lions lifetime. b) the lions don't see the humans as being a separate entity to the vehicles, they just see one larger creature (the car) that is non-threatening. If any of those inside the car stand or get out of the car, then the lion will see them as a separate entity and that's when they become prey. Lions possibly regard cars as being non-edible parts of nature similar to rocks and 'buildings'. They possibly regard those monkey like creatures that grow out of the back of these 'creatures' as being likewise non-edible. I'm guessing the lion reacted to the person in the kitchen as he could see the person within the large space inside the building and realised it was separate from its surroundings. i.e. Prey.
He was aggressive because a lioness was in heat near him. This video is the shortened version. Plus the man kept walking towards him which the cat took as aggression. When you are in a vehicle you are up high and not moving, which makes a difference.
BODY LANGUAGE IS SO IMPORTANT!!! I knew his roar etc was coming because his tail started swaying and mouth moving. He was entering hunt mode.
I flinched when the lion roared, I'm 1000s miles away watching on KZhead at a later date. Meanwhile the cameraman a few feet away in an open building didn't flinch!

Nooooo 🥺😟😥😢😰😨😧 Open door ! Its freaking to realize that as soon as the lion notices it & figures out how to get in (instead of roaring from outside of the window net), would literally make anyone sh*t in the pants. If the door opens in the house , one can quickly sneak in & close it if can muster courage. If the door opens out, getting it in within a split second without catching the attention of the lion seems a distant possibility, let alone even trying it out in first place. On a side note, That lioness in the background makes me feel there maybe more around which probably the person inside may not be even aware of. Simply Eeriee !😢😮😢😮

I just evolutionarily regressed back to a helpless ape accepting his fate as a lions lunch.
I like that he made the little lip smacks like cats do when they're upset, must have been fairly nervous.

I remember years ago when I worked at my local animal shelter, I was cleaning one of the cages of this very large dog, when all of a sudden he lunged and growled at me. I was so terrified, my legs started wobbling and I was frozen in place before I finally ran out. I imagine encountering an angry male lion is like that x10,000!! Scary stuff. Thanks for sharing!
I had a tiger charge a leap at me, but luckily, he bounced off the chain link fence between us. Don't think that chicken wire would've stopped him!! I also froze...
the big dog that charged u would not stand a chance against a lion a Lions bite force is 650 pounds/square inch (psi) while a Rottweilers bite is only 328 pounds/ square inch and lions are much stronger and can take on a large buffalo or can defend against 4 wolves or hyenas by itself

This is the scariest lion vid on the internet. I was never afraid of them until I saw this video.
Yeah that mofo is foul for sure fuk
Not nearly as scared as the Lion was in the video though.
What a crazy thing to experience!
Thanks for clarifying in your description. It brings me some measure of calm. I thought the usual behaviour for the lions would be to avoid human settlements especially because they can be too noisy and loud noises scare or agitate them animals. Seeing one so close to a dwelling made me nervous - lions are not known to hunt in human settlements - but I see the description says it's likely because he was guarding a female who was using the human settlement likely in an effort to get rid of him.
Never saw "Ghost in the Darkness" huh?
They're talking about "usual" behaviour. Most lion attacks on humans are due to depletion of their natural prey, and lone, often sick male lions who are too slow to hunt anything other than us lumbering, oblivious idiots 😂
Yeah us humans are like french fries to them lions and ven crocs. Their "burgers" are wildebeest, elephant, hippo, rhino, antelope, etc. Now tigers on the other hand are specialized in eating people 😮. That said they treat us like another carnivore too.@peterclarke7240
"Yeah Boss, I'm going to be a bit late for work."
"Honey, whats for dinner?" "Us"
Even the lioness got scared... This is what a king looks like.
I would never leave my house if I lived there
Reminds me of the first time we went to the lion park in Johannesburg and I was talking to my sister who was driving this tiny car we were in, and I turned around and right there, outside the window, literal centimeters away, was a lion just staring at me and breathing hard. The window was closed so there was no real danger and he'd only gotten up from under the tree because the caravan of cars had stopped because we were all watching the lionesses lounging in the trees, but our car had ended up a little too close to where the cubs were playing and he got nervous. You never appreciate the true power of a lion until its face is right next to your window and u can see its breath. We looked at each other, me close to peeing my pants and emitting silent screams, and I'm pretty sure I saw a look of disgusted pity like 'pull yourself together, ma'am; at least die with *some* dignity' before he decided his kids were in zero danger from pathetic old me and he strolled back under his tree.
That's an amazing story! Thanks for sharing. (Or being able to share it!)

The video maker obviously knew that the camera man never dies.
The reaction of that lion demonstrates how truly terrifying humans are. The guy with the camera was doing nothing and the big male lion basically pooped itself.

You're only lucky that you came in through the front door and didn't go around back to check on your water supply or veggie patch first. This could have gone another way completely !!
This is very scary to say the least to see a lion staring at you & ready to crash thru that window not to mention the person taking the video was outside knowing the lions were in the front yard. I doubt the chicken wire fence on the window would prevent the lion from come crashing through. Who in the world choose to live there?

Lion translation: "Get on the roof" 😂
I had an interesting experience at a crocodile farm once. In the grounds of the farm there were several sculptures of crocodiles. One apparent sculpture looked very real so I went up to it to have a closer look and lo behold it was a actually live crocodile, which then scampered off. My daughters say that every time I tell this story the size of the crocodile increases!
That's it we're switching that lion to decaf first thing in the morning.
I would imagine whoever was filming this so calmly must have had a very powerful firearm with them.
If you see a lion throw his tail around like that, it means am threatened by you and I will do anything to defend myself. It usually ends in a bad way.
Though the description of the video explains the situation . It didn't explain why there are no doors to the house ?
