For new fans that are familiar with Jon being in close fights ( Santos, Reyes ), Gus is a legend for putting it on him like he did that night. Jones was absolutely dominating everyone he fought. Might not seem that crazy now, but at the time, it was mind blowing
All true but when they fought the second time Jones just dominated so you can tell that more skill comes with time and age and you can tell Jones is always exceeding

I reckon. He could of done so much more but imo, he lost too much esteem from that loss. I couldn't, can't believe Jones won that. And I like Jones.
That spinning elbow in the fourth round was the pivotal moment of the fight that saved Jon from losing the belt.

@@leztyyour actually about to sit here an argue about Jon’s skill level? 😂 he’s the goat for a reason
This fight is one of my favorites of all time. I really didn't know much of Gus before the fight but I was a fan after this fight. No man has ever brought Jones to the edge like this, nobody at all has been this competitive with him to this point. It showed that Jones had actual heart and really truly could go the distance, and it showed that Gus is 100% one of the baddest men in MMA those elbows he ate were just insane. I genuinely don't understand how someone could be that tough, how did those elbow shots not knock him clean out? I also believe this might be the best showing of all Jones's skills because he definately utilized and needed all of them to actually win. I'm a big Jones fan, but I also question the decision, he may have won that just because the judges liked him as champion and were a little bias. Brilliant fight tho, legendary in my opinion 💯💯
The strikes landed, takedowns blocked and takedowns completed were all in favor of Gus. Alot of people think it was that one flurry of elbows that opened Gus up that gave Jones the decision, imo that doesn't make up for the whole rest of the fight which Jones did NOT seem dominant in. All in all, it was close, both of them are absolute warriors, and it's fights like this that give me the very rare feeling that they should've sawed that god damn belt in half and handed each of them a piece.
I feel this
We all know Gus won that fight...and also exposed Jones as being nothing without his height and reach!!!!

His forcefield is his biggest and secret weapon. Some dudes use constant mental exertion to stay focused to defend. Jones just uses faith in Christ naturally and subconsciously. The fact that Gus got taken down only one time in the end, while Jones got taken down many times, tells a lot about Gus as a fighter. Plus if that eye poke never happened, I think the result of the fight might have been otherwise.
that’s retarded
The fact that one of those individuals had the fight at 49-46 should tell you everything you need to know about the integrity of the @UFC judges. Thats a slap in the face to a great fighter who literally put everything he had into that fight, as you can notice the ref having to help him back to his corner for the last 2-3 rounds. Shit makes me furious. Gus gave bones the fight of his life so far imo.
Gus probably won rounds 1 through 3. Can argue that Jon won round 3 or it was a tie. First 2 rounds are definitely gus. 49-46 definitely tells you who they wanted to promote if it came to a decision
There is no such thing as a "UFC judge". All judges are appointed by the state athletic commissions, not the UFC. The same judges that judge UFC events are also judging events in boxing and other MMA promotions.
Same thing For Reyes too, someone scored it 49-46 in that fight too.
What big shots did Gus land? honestly? Turn the volume off and he landed nothing. All the significant shots were Jones.
@ZidaneSteiner it's because it was vs Jones that makes it magnified. One thing I've learned about men of the nations--- they don't score things objectively like who won. They score things in their head that place more of an emphasis on effort and how well a guy is doing vs a titan like Jon. In that regard--- I see why men say gus won. Because he exceeded expectations more than Jon exceeded expectations. But in real life--- Cmon now.

My actual favorite fight of all time. 2 athletic giants who exchanged on all levels and left it all in the ring for a razor thin decision that could have gone either way. Respect to both these guys but I think it took something out of Gus, he hasn't been the same since that fight.
Fights like that are bittersweet. MacDonald vs Lawler is another example. Amazing fight but it took a huge toll on both fighters. Tony Ferguson's later career comes to mind.

This is an all time classic UFC fight.
Alex nearly dominated the first 3 rounds and kept it even round 4 and 5. Alex was actually winning round 4 too until that one spinning elbow. I give this fight to Alex every time I watch it
Well you’re wrong
what? I give jones r2 r4 and r5 and r3 is a 50/50 imo
He used everything in the first 2 rounds, that's why he "looked" like he won those rounds. If you watch it back, you'll hear the announcers saying he's throwing and landing a lot of shots, but none of the heavy hits. He was at half tank by the 4th round, and that elbow basically just finished him. The point is, if he would have tried to pace the fight, like Jon, Jon would have eaten him up. That's John's game. Slow, methodical, strategic, ferocious.
Dominating? 😂😂 Jon clearly won round 1 landing much more shoots with the kicks and the spinning kicks. Round 2-3 were very competitive. The best is Gus 2-1 going into round 4 where he lost the round couse he nearly got finished
jones should’ve been disqualified for those eye pokes and kneecap kicks
This the fight that made me start using Gustafson in ufc 4…. Hahah straight up. His striking was so dirty in this bout. Those punch to kick combos were all gorgeous
That’s when Jon was running through everyone and never tested for peds lol 😂
Probably the best UFC fight I ever watched live.
Gustafsson by the end was running on fumes, you could tell his strikes had no power in them and he was so tired but he fought well in the first couple of rounds and made it competetive vs probably the best UFC fighter ever props to my Swedish brother!
If i was to pick between the two to be on my side in a real fight I'd pick Gustafsson. The man is fearless and never backs down. A born fighter.
Gustafson fought with all his heart

You know what, EE. My Husband and I would always say Gustafsson won that fight. Then one day we watched it very closely. Jon Jones did, in fact, pull out the win. We noticed that Jones landed more kicks and as my Husband stated those are worth more than punches. And that clean spinning elbow stunned him in the 4th round and that sealed the fight for Jones. If im being honest Alex won this fight, and Reyes as well. Coming from a Jon Jones fan too, (l like Alex as well though) I really think Alex won. For a majority of the fight I would argue the first 3 rounds maybe even the 4th round he put on much more pressure regardless of the fact that he was counter punching. If you look at the stats at the end of the 4th, Gustafson has WAY more shots landed, he also clearly inflicted much more damage. The people in the comments arguing that he had to pressure him more confuse me, because he did pressure him with the circling footwork and would counter when he could. The ONLY argument that even makes sense is the final round, where Jon clearly started winning and Alex began gassing, and Jon did land a takedown (finally). But still it doesn't make sense to me, he stopped every takedown except for one, pressured him more, landed more, landed with more power, and out maneuvered him with footwork, what else could you ask for? And the judge that had it 49-46 shouldn't even be allowed to have an opinion on the fights let alone judge them.
Underrated comment.
