I’ve been plugging the headset usb dongle to the front since the beginning, because I thought it might not be good with the heat, glad to know I wasn’t wrong.😅 thanks for the video mate 👌🏻
Same. It made the most sense to me. Figured it made it look cleaner having any wires in the back anyway.
Yep, same for my gaming PC.
Same here I never plugged my USB in the back at all since it’s not a good idea anyway and that where the fan vent is pushing the air out and the front where it should be at anyway to be begin with
It's embarrassing how many people lack common sense by plugging it in the back near the exhaust vents. 😑
Same
Great tip. I like some others in the comments automatically used the front slot because of the heat in the back. Seemed like easy logic at the time. Glad it made sense for so many by default.
To prevent any accidents with the dongle sticking out, I decided to be a little more creative with the position of mine. With the GTbeans 24pin magnetic USB-C rightangle adapter, I use the same on my tablet, so I can very easily switch between the two. I have no problems with this setup. Dead easy to remove and replace, and no accidental breaking of any USB ports. I'd highly recommend it, if you don't use that USB-C in the front for anything else.
Haven't had this issue with my PS5, but I personally like having those dongles in the rear of my PC and I was having connectivity issues with a wireless mouse and keyboard. The keyboard would drop inputs and such. Finally moved it to the front of the tower and haven't had an issue since. It's amazing what difference a little over a foot and unobstructed airspace can do.
As a long-time PC gamer, one of my go-to troubleshooting methods for USB is to try a different port. Also, always have the dongle on the same side of the machine to where you're using it. I once had to run a USB extender cord so my dongle could detect my mouse reliably.
This is the most pretentious sounding way to tell people you do the most basic step in all of troubleshooting history first. Being a 'PC Gamer' I'm sure you also eat soup with a spoon, and drink water out of a cup. What wisdom will you share with us all next, Mr. 'Personal Computer Gamer' sir?
@Terraphice We’d be besties! 😂. Bastard!
Jus use a wired mouse

I have the pulse 3D headset and plugged it in at the back of the PS5 before and had the problems you mentioned. Luckily I came to my senses and plugged it in at the front and had no problems since. This video is a must watch for so many PS5 users.
It's the USB 3.0... that's the only difference
The problem is the headset, it's garbage.
@@nsnebris8228 the headset is pretty fantastic actually, the problem is when it’s plugged into the back and it’s too enclosed. With proper airflow/space it’s a non-issue.
it's a must watch for every consolero. had the same issue with PS4 pro. and im pretty sure this issue is on every console having an usb slot at back
It's funny because I had this issue days ago luckily came to the same conclusion before referring online and was fine but now I'm seeing this video randomly lmao
Wow this make perfect sense because I have been experiencing this with my pulse 3D headset, recently moved the dongle to the front so hopefully that helps, thanks John and love your content bro
To prevent the overheating of the dongle from the back of the console, you can use a USB extender to dive to divert it away from the back.
Or just use the front
@@dahlolimfunny my toddler says no to the front USB :)
Came down to the comments to post the same thing. My cat likes jump onto the shelf in front of my consoles, so this would certainly be the safest option. As long as the extender is of reasonable quality, there is really little chance of it causing issues.
@@StealthyJim it comes w the extender in the box. hello fellow Sony users!
@@WieserChri Why is your ps5 in reach of your toddler? Thats asking for so much to go wrong.
As a PS5 and Pulse 3D user, I can confirm this. I used the back USB ports in the beginning but I had connectivity and sound issues. I was worried that I had a faulty unit but when I checked the USB dongle, it was so warm that I immediately moved it to the front USB port and having no issues since then.
I have a different headset but I had the exact same experience. I have a Turtle Beach headset. I had just gotten it and I loved how it sounded playing audio from my phone and from the PS5, and especially how it could play audio from both at the same time, when it actually worked with the PS5 that is. It didn't take long to start experiencing connectivity and sound issues. I thought my awesome new headset was defective. It was the first really expensive headset I'd ever bought and I was very upset but it occurred to me that I should do what I would do if I was using it with a computer, switch USB ports. I did that and the issues immediately stopped. It hadn't occurred to me that it was the heat that caused the issues. I was just happy it was good.
Don't place the back of the console near a wall and you'll be fine. The back of mine points to the centre of the room and its quite quiet and cool on quality mode of Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores.
Same
Can you leave it while on rest mode or do you remove it??
@@jaddark3898 I never remove it and I always leave my PS5 on rest mode.
I’ve always plugged the usb at front just because it looks cool and no wires at the front. But good to have you reminding about it!
this is one of the most useful videos you've made, hadn't thought about that dongle overheating on a hot day but it is a real concern

Was about to grab a pulse headset for the days of play sale and this pops up. The gaming gods always looking out for me. Love this channel straight to the point no gimmicks no bs.
Gotta love the glasscock 😊
I had this EXACT problem. I thought it was due to the dongle being behind the console (out of line of sight), so it moved it to the front port and it has been great ever since.
Hi John, i am looking to purchase a wireless trackball for my grandson's PS5 do you know if this is possible, and fingers cross do you have any recommendations?
Lost the dongle. Is there any way to get a replacement Pulse 3D dongle?
I've noticed the heat that the console has in the back port area. I always take my my wireless USB completely out when I'm not using my headphones. Also with an addition storage M.2 slot there's more heat introduced to the system. I'm currently adding some things to combat that. Such as a Sabrent heat sink replacement for the M.2 panel. Vented Dark plates and a Scry Artic exhaust cooler.
Wired accessories are usually alot more stable. Only problems i run into are setting them up the first time and obviously wire managment. I still think it is a good trade off for stability in accessories.
Spoken like a true audiophile. Bravo!
You won't believe how many wired headsets I've been through that only one side works or only high frequency sounds are transmitted
Can you use the pulse 3d with other dongles? For instance I have the PlayStation 2.0 headset, would it work with that?
Thanks for the info on this issue. Mine is still acting up despite being plugged in, up front. I have a Turtle Beach 700 set.. Should I trash and move to another? Set up and independent BT Transmitter, and use my AirPod Pros? Acts up big time during PVP modes Destiny 2...
I've experienced issues with it plugged in the front as well. I was still connected but the light on the transmitter was flashing and the sound quality got very muffled
I used to get the same issue. But I used a 3 inch usb extension and that has helped! I thought this video was going to mention that.
@@DarkSolidKnight can you tell us which extension you used?
@@tee2008j I honestly don’t remember where I got this cable. But it’s just a 3 inch male go female USB extension. I’m guessing it came with a camcorder?
I always use the one on the front. Works fine for me. I have the turtle beach stealth 700 gen 2 which has a low profile dongle so it's not too much of a stress point.
That dongle doesn’t make any sense because you aren’t moving around your console. It’s not a laptop
@@stevemuzak8526 I was referring to it being a shorter dongle and the fact that it's less of a risk for someone to walk by and run into it thus breaking it ad possibly damaging the usb port
@Cole Demo Yes. I have my controller charging cable coming off the back.
@@mullinsjm1 same
I have one of those too. Do you find that there's an insane amount of static on the home screen?
Can you connect an bluetooth speaker to the dongle?
Hi nice information I have connected two type c cables to back ports for charging 3d headset and controller ...will it cause any heat related issue in long run
Just ordered the Pulse 3D headset. Thanks for the heads up
I have the 3D Pulse my self, great headset
@@SC0RPI0NFURY I heard the mic isnt too good?
I just have a usb extension cable connected to the back port. That way it's easier to connect any peripheral to the console. It makes things easier since I also use my PS headset for PC.
Or just plug it into the front
I watched your video and I think with all the heat that the ps5 give it might cause your dongle to get warm and not work properly but what if you have a usb 3.0 cable extender and you plug it at the back of the ps5 and you move the other part of the extender to the front so you can use the female usb 3.0 of the extender with the dongle will that be batter? its just a thought I had so your dongle don't get damage in the front cause its so long.
If i want to use my pulse 3d with my tv set too and i dont want to plug the dongle off from the ps5 and plug it in my smart tv, how do i do that?? Does universal dongles/adapters connect to pulse 3d?? Thnx for your time and efforts guys
I had major audio issues with sound going in and out with the 3-D pulse headphones when I first got them. Bought a type c-to-a adapter and plugged through the type c port on the front and haven't ran into any problems. It's great
How this can solve the problem? I will buy and try it thank you :)
Man, mine kept getting choppy audio. I tried multiple adapters and different ports, but it never seemed to work 100%. I even bought the black one when it came out, but it made no difference.
I did the same thing, however Sony absolutely needs to fix this issue. Using a Pulse 3D headset should be seamless with the PS5. They haven't addressed the problem since release and it's completely egregious
Informative video. I have encountered interference issues in relation to external hard drives in neighbouring USB ports previously. Research has shown the 2.4hz signals can be interrupted by USB ports. My fix for this was to buy a short USB extension cable, plug the dongle into that and your interruptions should stop. Thought I'd just share this for anyone encountering similar issues.

I lost my Pulse 3d headset dongle, can another dongle on Amazon work or do i have to find that exact dongle ? Or just buy a new headset ?
Spot on. Got the pulse 2wks ago and had probs straight away with disconnections . Installed dongle at the front and prob resolved. Do you think a USB extender from the back would work?
Bro, every damn PS user should follow you. Even Sony should follow your channel, cause they don't pay detailed attention to its customers. GG, you've helped me big time with my ps5.
Facts
I have... an opposite problem. One of the earmuffs have... a slight static from time to time, and I've always plugged the USB into the front port. It's never occurred to me to plug it into one of the ports in the back.
they are using 2.4 ghz instead of bluetooth for lower latency but that introduces noise.
I have experienced this static noise… what i did is now i put my pulse headset inside a closet… somehow that solved my issue in a day and since then i hear no static noise
@@MonsterAssassin18 that is correct… When this problem came i was ready to sell my pulse headset but then i tried this one thing and it worked and since then i always put my headset and controllers in closet instead of outside on a shelf or something
I need help I lost my pulse 3d dongle can I get a new one somewhere or can I use any of them 🤔 do I have to use the official ps one?
I have Logitech G733 headset and I'm having issues with the microfone capture. when I use voice chat it just works bad and my friends don't hear me properly. do you think this is an issue with the console or with the headset ? can Sony somehow "not support" other companies, so you get frustrated and buy their headset ?
I’ve never experienced any problems with my headset by putting the dongle in the back, but I still stopped putting it back there. One day I was moving the PlayStation and felt how hot the dongle was. Figured I’d try to avoid a potential problem. Thanks for the info, now I know it was for the best to move it. 👊
i have experienced this, and yes it does not work perfectly when there is major heat involved. i still have it at the back of the ps5 but with better vented location for my console.
Just plug it in the front bro
@@dream6562 i kinda like it clean from the front 😂

I have lost my PS headset dongle. Can I use a different one? Or should I try and order an original?
Any chance we get a video with an adapter to connect other headphones but that also recognises the mic on them? Microphone is so bad when you link discord, on pulse 3D and on the controller itself, Im tired of ppl compaining about my mic.
Alternatively, you could use a USB cable/adapter that you plug into the rear port and hide under the PS5 where it's out of sight, or somewhere else where it's easier for the headphones to pick up the signal. You can plug the dongle into it. (This might be optimal for steelseries 7+ users.) This way you don't have to use the front port and you won't accidentally damage the PS5.
pro tip, use an usb extension to position the dongle far from the heat exhaust, and also put it in a position where it has a clear path with the headphone, knock two birds with one stone, well three if you consider the lower risk of front usb port damage taken out too
What to do if I lost my headset’s usb dongle. Can I find a replacement? Or do I have to but new heardset? I tried looking for A Inzone H7 dongle but couldn’t find anywhere. Any suggestions on what to do?
If I lost the dongle piece for my headset can I buy another dongle or I need to buy a new headset
I literally just retired my Pulse 3D headset and got the Artis 7P+ headset from Steelseries lol And it’s a big upgrade But damn it this got me worried I HATE having things plugged into the front of the console
Just get an extension cable to run the dongle from behind to the front so you shouldn't have a heat problem and the danger of someone hitting it in the front would be solved too.
I was asking myself about that ! Thanks for the info... I got no issue so far but now I know it could be possible. And I don't understand why there's not at least 2 USB port in the front of the console :(
Thanks for the tip but my pulse headset dongle usb bent I just wish there was some other way I could connect it wirelessly or PlayStation make extra dongles for sale if you have and information for me please comment
I've had mine since launch and plug it in the back so everything looks clean and uniform, and no problems here ( thank god😊🙏🏽 ) but that does make sense good looking out.
It’s cuz you have it in an open area Which is good The further the wall is from the back vents of the 5 the better air circulation Lower heat Runs better Use to have mine on a desk Shit got super Fuckin hot
Sounds to me more like a wireless signal issue than anything else, as a rule of thumb, you want those RF transceivers to be in direct line of sight and in close range, as they usually don't have good antennas (to save cost, space and have better aesthetic for the most part, people just don't like an antenna sticking out, even though it's still the most viable effective solution) and these devices usually have to operate in high RF noise environment (a lot of devices operating in the same frequency allocation) so the range is usually a lot more limited than people anticipated.
No because I use a wired headset plugged into the back of my PS5 and it literally melted the cord. It’s definitely a heat issue. The internet is riddled with people experiencing this issue
Does it matter on which version of usb port I connect (Usb2.0 or 3.0) the quality or connection will be different?
Do u already use a extension ' so the dongle is still in the back without getting heat from the exhaust of the PS5 ??
The smart thing to do is use a USB extension cable to connect to the back of the PS5 and to connect the dongle to it and hide it next or behind the TV
Oh, I like that idea! I’ll have to look into that
That’s exactly what I do. I bought the steel series Arctis 1 and it actually came with an extension cable which is great. But I use it for a different reason. The dongle for the headset plugs into the usbc port on the front but the shape of the dongle blocks the other USB port lol
It’s also common to have external hdd’s or ssd’s plugged to the back, this interferes with the audio as it starts to cut off. I have a small hub on the front regular usb to which I plug the cables to charge controllers, gold headset and it’s dongle. You can’t plug storage units on hubs and actually only one at a time works, and only on the USB ports on the back and the usb c on the front.
hmmm well i haven't had any problems so far, i think ill just keep it in the back because it looks alot better and i wouldnt want to accidentally bump it but thanks for the info anyway. ill probably try this first if i ever have any audio problems
Does the ps4 headset dongle work with the ps5 headset? Can get used headsets for 30 bucks, if it works with my dongle I'll get one. I haven't upgraded mine yet and they are falling apart.
I got the pulse heaset since past year almost the same time that I obtained my PS5, and I used to connect it in the back of the PS5 and it almost always got issues with the connection. So, yes, I wouldn't recommend to no body to connect it in the back.

You can also use a usb extention cable if you don'y want it in the front. A good usb cable is insulated so it will not draw as much heat from the vents to the dongle as it would wih the dongle near the vents.
