@@ebeb516 are you ok? Aneurisms are extremely dangerous!
Garlic might be good for people, but dogs metabolize certain foods differently than we do. According to the Merck Veterinary Manual, garlic and other members of the allium family, including onions, contain thiosulfate, which is toxic to dogs but not to humans.
In case anyone missed the number one comment - garlic is super poisonous for dogs. (Also grapes while we’re on the topic).
while were on the topic I have to add that garlic is poisonous for dogs but dog with garlic is not.
It's good for dogs in small amounts. A 60 lbs dog can eat up to 4oz before its considered dangerous. Onions are more dangerous for dogs on the other hand and I wouldn't feed my dog any food with onions
This method of preparation is probably the safest for dogs, as cooking it whole denatures the compounds that make the garlic spicier when crushed or cut (they normally create allicin). So while they're still not recommended for dogs due to the components still being there, they won't combine and make something worse. Dogs can generally half an average raw clove of garlic per kilogram of bodyweight without worry. That was a husky, which average 18kg, so it probably could've eaten that whole container of garlic and been fine.
Less toxic than grapes. Grapes are an absolute no
@@justinbang6025 as far as I know it’s not good for dogs in any amount but it’s not going to damage their internal organs or cause anemia in small amounts.

But please don't give garlic to your dog. Dogs lack necessary enzimes and their liver cannot break certain compounds from garlic. It stays in their liver and can damage it and even kill your dog.
I was just about to write "Why would this guy poison his dog with garlic and put Shilo's life in danger?" then I saw your comment.
That dog has to weigh at least 50lbs so the dog would have to eat like 100 grams of garlic before it would be dangerous.
A small dog would need to eat about 30 cloves to have an effect, that dog would probably be able to eat over 100 cloves. It's about 30grams per kg of dog that is toxic, your average clove is about 7g.

Please know that if you store this for a while, botulism can grow afterwards. So please use in a timely manner and do not use after a week!
Clostridium botulinum bacteria can grow, which is the cause of botulism.
Garlic confit can be stores very long IF stored correctly. But you need it in a tightly closed container and cooled.
I used to work at a fine dining bistro type place called the garlic rose and they served garlic roses. They would basically slow cook garlic with seasonings bathed in olive oil for days. When they served it with the bread you would spread whole cloves of garlic like butter.
So the specialty was garlic confit
When it cools to room temp, put it in a blender with 1 egg and a little lemon juice and you got the best mayo dip ever
Love this idea!
Nice! I was also thinking a compound butter over a steak!

Looks so good. Small correction, olive oil isn’t a neutral tasting oil. Definitely would use it though.
You’re right!! Should’ve made that more clear.
Yes olive Oil is very strong to me
What about avocado oil..? I’ve use that more recently because the cooking community has told me that it just had a better over all taste to it..?
It is if you're italian 😂
neutral tasting olive oil exists but extra virgin is pretty much the opposite of that
Dogs are not supposed to have GARLIC. It can kill them. Ask your vet.
if it is cooked, and in tiny portions, its actually beneficial, BUT you are right, it is toxic if more than a tiny amount is consumed
Garlic and onion poisoning in dogs is rarely fatal. ~American Kennel Club
A lot of people say this, if you drink 8L water that will also kill you. A dog that size would need to consume over 100 cloves before they feel any effects.
Onions as well, supposedly for cats too. I don't believe it my kitty would ask to eat cooked onions
His dog seems fine to me.
I love how so many people mention no garlic for dogs, lots of dog lovers ❤. Your dog is so very cute btw! Thanks for the video, gonna try it, the soften garlic spread on the toast looks so good 😋
I make my own garlic confit. You can cook it on the stove top. Just put the garlic in a pot and cover with olive oil. Cook it slowly for about 45 minutes. Keep it in the refrigerator. It will last for months as long as the garlic is covered by the olive oil. I enjoy cooking with it.
That is a MAJOR botulism risk, my friend.
Well, extra virgin olive oil is not properly "neutral tasting". Very tasty anyway. A small note for Europeans: 250° is Farenheit. Garlic and dogs do not get along...
I scrolled down here just to confirm the temperature unit. =121 degrees Celsius.
Technically, he's way too big for it to be dangerous to him.
I was gonna say this as well. I had seen another recipe that said "slow cook at 250°" so it must be Farenheit. I wish people didn't forget to say the names of their units. Bet many burnt the garlic because of this.
I found out the hard way 😭
Yep wish I'd seen your comment earlier x)
Heavenly, spread on toasted sourdough, some slices of ripe avocado and topped with a soft poached egg. Risky to store for too long in the fridge so I only make enough to last for 7-10 days, max. Can use canola or rapeseed oil instead of olive oil and be sure to trim garlic of any discolored marks or bruising before cooking.
After you take it out of the oven, you can leave it to room temperature for a while until it cools down to storage in the fridge? It's my first time making it but everyone talking bout botulism now I'm afraid of storage it wrong and go visit my grandmother in heaven for a clove of garlic lol 😅
It's really a great idea... Instead of bottle stored bought spread... This is great
I feel like I would send it all into the food processor after cooking
Then you'd have Aioli
@@vladdracula2643 so? :D it’d still be yummy

One can peel a lot garlic quickly by placing the broken up cloves in a large bowl then placing another flipped bowl, or cover, on top and shaking vigorously for a short while. The key is that there is enough space inside for the cloves to hit the sides with force. This can be quite loud with steel bowls, so mitigate with ear plugs or wrap the bowls in a towel.
"Sorry everyone, we'll have to order take out. Yeah, forgot my earplugs again"
My son showed me a neat trick for peeling lots of garlic. Trim the ends of the coves, Put them all in a jar with a metal lid, such as an old jam or pickle jar not too full so they have a lot of room to bounce around and hit the jar lid. shake vigorously and 95% of the peels will come off.

I spoke to a homesteader with many dogs who raived about feeding them garlic. He was an older guy and said he has done that his whole life with his dogs and so did his father. He grows most of his food and makes his dogs food and claimed that adding tons of garlic helped keep ticks off them.
Ah yes, the old "A homesteader knows more than peer reviewed, educated, veterinarian scientists" argument.
According to the Merck Veterinary Manual, garlic and other members of the allium family, including onions, contain thiosulfate, which is toxic to dogs
Ah thee old “peer reviewed” otherwise known as people that agree or are being payed to agree with me
Garlic might be good for people, but dogs metabolize certain foods differently than we do. According to the Merck Veterinary Manual, garlic and other members of the allium family, including onions, contain thiosulfate, which is toxic to dogs but not to humans.
@@Mr.BobsDog I wonder the level of toxicity when this man has 2 generations of experience feeding his dogs not just garlic, but "tons of garlic". I make my own dog's food as well, and I had also heard the same studies and kept garlic out. He said his dogs have lived long healthy lives and again, he said it helped keep ticks off them. Also, 90% of the food for dogs I see on store shelves I would not let my dogs go anywhere near, despite their corporate approval. I don't know the details of the study, but as usual this is a subject that needs a closer look for myself personally. I still leave garlic out just to be safe, but the reason I spend a whole day every 3 months and spend much more than I would if I just bought canned or bagged food is because of the absolutely horrible quality and ingredient control put into dog food.
I love roasted garlic! Unfortunately the people around me , not so much!
watch out on eating too much! I ate 20 cloves in one sitting(because the the stuff I got doesn’t reheat well) and the next day I was so gassy I thought I was going to explode. And I went #2 four times. And apparently it can prevent blood clots? But I did not bleed that day, so I don’t know from personal experience. apparently the daily max is supposed to be 2-3 cloves.
For Asian - Garlic is really good for heart & blood circulation
It takes between 15-30 grams of garlic per kilo of body weight to reach toxic levels. For reference one average clove is 3-7 grams. It would require a LOT of garlic to hurt your dog. Don’t make it a staple in your dogs diet but a tiny piece of garlic bread isn’t going to hurt.
Guys it's okay if you read the description he said he only gave the dog bread not garlic.
But he said "it" was approved by the dog, so 🤷. Doesn't "it" mean the spread since spread is the topic of the video? I gotta say though, I am SUPER happy and impressed that SO MANY humans know what food stuffs are bad for dogs. I send out a GREAT BIG HUG to every one of you! 🤗

This dish reminds me one in Greece where boiled potatoes are mashed and then mashed garlic is added along with a small quantity of a broth of a cod lots of oil as here and you stir it up to the point it starts to act as a molted caramel. Then the cod that has been boiled is fried in a mixture of beer with wheat and then you add them both in a dish and enjoy them with white or pink wine preferably with Retsina. Awesome spicy combo. How long should it last in the fridge? Or can you use half oil half butter and then remove the herbs and mix together for garlic butter?
You can store it for a few weeks in the fridge. Just make sure the garlic is submerged in the oil and tightly sealed. You can confit garlic in butter but it needs to be clarified first. Otherwise the butter will burn and separate during the cooking process. Clarified butter has a much higher smoke point so it shouldn’t be a problem.
