In 2018, I think a lot of us were shocked when Jim from the office, yeah, this guy, was making a horror movie called A Quiet Place The premise seemed interesting, he was acting with his real-life Pam, so I was on board, going to see it opening night with managed expectations. What I didn’t expect was the single greatest theater experience I’ve ever had.

    • The premise is cool and really thought provoking - what kllls it for me tho is that so much with the worldbuilding just doesn't make sense. I just can't buy that these creatures would be able to overcome the biggest army and the most armed population in the world so easily, when they can be killed by a farmers shotgun to their face. Sure, they have armour, but we see from the news articles in the house that we knew they were sound based creatures pretty early. If the media was still around when we figured out that, the military likely was still around too. The US army already has soujnd based weaponry used mainly for crowd control today - they'd be blasting every frequency known to man at the creatures withing minutes of figuring out they were sound-only. If the basic equipment on a farm can produce a sound strong enough to stun them completely then they'd be absolutely stomped by the US military. Also while we're at it - shouldn't these creatures be really susceptible and vulnerable to naturally occuring phenomena like thunderstorms or hurricanes? Those are loud, REALLY loud in fact, nature can easily produce sounds like those that puts any concert to shame. How do the creatures cope with that? It's details like these and so many more that just breaks my immersion - and what is a shame is that it's one of those settings that the more you think about it, the less sense it makes. A shame because the premise itself is really cool and unique, and the movies themselves are quiet entertaining.

People may not have even figured out the creatures have super sensitive hearing, or that that was an exploitable weakness until the moment of their death. They fell all over the place all at once, and just started slaughtering. By the time someone who had the knowledge and resources to build something effective, everyone was probably already dead. • Sure large weapons can probably kill them. But I think the overall problem is that they invaded across the world, or at least the USA in what we can assume are huge numbers across major population centers all around the same time. How can you defend your cities with tanks and airstrikes without carpet bombing indiscriminately? Social fabric breaks down immediately and the supply lines to fuel, service, and transport those tanks becomes logistically impossible within a matter of hours if you are trying to defend the entire landmass of the USA. The roads are blocked, airbase are overrun, etc. There just isn't enough ability to defend all that land if it were to be overrun like that in a surprise attack that fast. Best case scenario the military/government of the USA has secured a much smaller quarantined zone and is defending that. Worst case the entire government has collapsed. Entirely possible when so much breaks down all within a few hours across major population centers.

      @jeffbrownme2@jeffbrownme22 ай бұрын
    • Military vehicles are thirsty, and need regular maintenance and resupply. Plus, they're designed to take on other military vehicles. A discarding sabot round would for sure obliterate one of the creatures but once they're close (and they're fast), cannon is useless. A gunship could hose a few down but it has to land eventually, and the creatures would be there waiting. Those things wouldn't have to physically defeat combat armour anyway, logistics would be the weak spot and they would absolutely wreak havoc on support elements. Wouldn't take long before everything is grounded or abandoned. Militaries aren't laid out to tackle threats like this, there'd be chaos so quickly.

If a bunch of those hit earth we would have either been either many fob across the USA and some high recruitment rates maybe if they consider it a world wide threat without knowing aliens would be on there first. You forget we literally develop stealth fighters that travel up to mach 2-3 with complexed engines. With all the recon and surveillance with drones etc they would eventually find out their weakness is sound but the aliens could be in the millions so it's hard to say but many weapons would harm these things just because of brute force that attacks flesh directly unfortunately there will still be many dead humans trying to kill them with their own guns so eh.

There were probably many times the family could've made as much noise as they wanted to and nothing would happen because the nearest creature is 50 miles away and cant hear you. The thing is you don't know where the nearest creature is, it could be 50 miles away or sneaking around 50ft from your house so in the end you have to be cautious and try to mitigate your sounds all the time. I honestly think the thing that would do a lot of people in is the mental strain.

  • Probably a hot take but I despise the logic/survival in this film. The story bits are fine but there are SOOOOO many instances of plot armor and stupidity that it boils my brain. Any instances of the characters being stupid and by every means should die from the setting presented are pretty common. 1) where do they get all their sand to walk through? With wind, rain, and erosion your paths would be gone within days. Without constant maintenance and supply of sand, the paths would literally be gone within a week 2) why wasn't there a parent in front and back at the beginning with the kids in the middle? Basic survival pack mentality. 3) how do they farm? Farming is incredibly noisy between tilling, storage, tools, and everything else involved. 4) WHY DON'T THEY LIVE BY THE WATER FALL? It is considered a safe haven so build some basic structures and set up camp there. Also you can have the baby there. Done. I have more but that's what I can remember from seeing the film years ago. I can forgive some if the story is good, but my lord the amount of inconsistency and survival logic irks me.

I've worked out in fields when younger and have planted some fields by hand (I'm speaking acres 😭😭), it's awful and painful but possible. Tho, I think theres an issue when it comes to watering the plants. Water can be pretty loud and heavy. How are they transporting TONS of water quietly? For us, even tho we planted by hand, machines did the watering...

People rarely combine the idea of hell with the idea that humans are incredibly badass world conquering apex predators. The closest we've gotten to this is DOOM and Dantes inferno. • For me, A Quiet Place is a type of scenario that does not work in an apocalyptic setting, for multiple reasons. First of all, in real life these monsters would be incredibly easy to defeat, just play a loud Metallica concert and bait them into a stadium filled with explosives. I will never buy them as a serious threat. Second, because the characters have to stay quiet all the time, you can't really make a grand story filled with tons of dialogue and character drama, epic setpieces etc, so why bother with the whole Apocalypse thing? This movie should take place is some remote location, like an island, an underground lab/bunker/cave (where there's way less sound, so it would be way scarier) or in like the XIXth century, so the military would be unable to attack them from the sky. Make it a small story, make it ambigious what happened to the rest of the world. For me, the whole Apocalypse thing is just wasted potential.

    @MrMadXenomorph@MrMadXenomorph2 ай бұрын
    • I think the fact that everything happened so fast is the reason they were a threat. These aliens suddenly fell from the sky, seemingly all over the place, all at once, and immediately began slaughtering everything that made a noise. Setting up a trap and luring them to it assumes you survived the initial slaughter. If they actually fell all over the planet all at once, i could easily see most of the population wiped out in a matter of days. Those who survived the first day or two would still have to be incredibly careful while they are even setting up the trap in the first place. Plus, how do people even know a trap like that would work. From the average persons perspective, its just a bunch of aliens indiscriminately slaughtering people. It would take time, and direct observation of the creatures behavior for longer than the quick glimpse you see while its killing everyone around you.

People are tired of zombies they’ve been so over saturated in movies since the 2000’s era, & any sort of apocalypse that people can insert themselves into and go “would I survive” gets people talking and interested. People have been wanting to see the Day 1 of this apocalypse since the first film, so I feel like we would’ve always got this prequel regardless of anything that happened.

    • I think the point is that the way it slipped into the water implied that the creature was very comfortable in it. A creature so comfortable with going under the water like that probably knows how to swim.

  • Did anyone else notice how in the 1st movie the monsters seem to be able to swim in water without an issue but yet in Pt2 they were literally drowning in water.lol I’ve always wondered about that

    @ashleykathleen85@ashleykathleen852 ай бұрын
    • If you mean in the basement flooding scene the waters waist deep and the monster isn’t really swimming it’s wading through the water but in the ocean/lakes the weight of the monster or its lack of buoyancy made it begin sinking

  • I actually think this apocalypse, while initially devastating would be handled by militaries very quickly as people would likely form the hypothesis that high pitched sound frequencies would overload the creatures senses, that or super high decibel sounds at close range. I’d imagine tanks rolling around with speakers blasting while other vehicles take the creatures out one-by-one. Like these creatures definitely don’t have a numbers advantage. Idk I just feel like the creatures are made out to be way more difficult to deal with than they are

    • then you add up how many of the fuckers there are, how fast they are, you have to get a head shot while it's janking around and how strong they are. would be surprised if the military which would assemble all forces wouldn't get demolished. the thing would bulldoze through a tank. much less 1000 of them in one spot alone.

      @SobBaget602@SobBaget6022 ай бұрын
    • @@SobBaget602 High-pitched sounds from simple studio speakers have been shown in the movie to immobilize these creatures, how are they gonna go anywhere whilst in screeching pain from high pitched sounds like the movie shows. They become so still that its easy to line up a shot on them. Also you saw how one of those creatures was only able to barely topple a bus in the movie, tanks are much heavier, wider, and low to the ground than busses.

    • @@shizz3907 No, The little girl has been broadcasting her specific frequency, no other loud sound has hurt them but her. also you don't nee to topple a tank, just tear off the cannon, or block the barrel, or just take out the treads. or just sit there and wail on it, since nothing can hurt them anyway.
