Anyway, I visited a 500-year-old Turkish hammam in Istanbul where I got slapped, manhandled, and scrubbed raw by a Turkish hammam master with 40 years of experience. What an incredible ASMR massage experience. I felt truly clean and refreshed afterwards and I would highly recommend everyone check out Mihrimah Sultan Hamamı in Istanbul, Turkey! And also check out my great Turkish teacher Efkan: www.italki.com/en/teacher/755...

    @sickturret3587@sickturret35872 ай бұрын
    • they weren't basic nomadic horse archers... not anymore. The turkic tribes who inhabitate turkey and created the ottoman empire, were already heavily influenced by the persian empire before.. The first big turkic empire in that region was the Seljuk Empire... The Seljuks wanted to be the new Persian Empire.. after the sejuk empire collapsed, a smaller Seljuk empire in anatolia was created, which called themselfs Rum-Seljuks and only after that the Ottoman Empire was founded. What I wanted to say is, the turkic tribes already had knowledge of these kind of public baths before they stepped a food on anatolian ground. The arabs were the first to adapt to these public baths and they kept the knowledge alive... turkes learnd it from the persians. by the time they conquerd Anatolia, the byzantian had already forgotten how to build these new baths and the arabs, persians and turkic muslims where the ones who build new baths in.

      @maroda8094@maroda80942 ай бұрын
    • @@maroda8094 you are talking about the ruling elite of the seljuks. they had a settled government copied from persian style and an army system mostly turkic but as i've said, only the ruling elite, a small percentage. most turkic people who rushed into anatolia in large waves were petty nomadic warlords and the tribes they gathered who wanted more lavish lands to graze their livestock and looking for adventure and loot (therefore more power) generally. edit: and no, "turkic tribes" were almost non-aware of the persian lifestyle. most of them didn't even live in the cities in the seljuk empire. which was lucky for seljuks (and anyone outside looking for formidable mercenaries) cause cities don't breed horse-archers or naturally tough warriors pre-training. they were only as accustomed to city life and persian lifestyle as today's "yörüks" of turkey or nomads in turkmenistan are.

      @sickturret3587@sickturret35872 ай бұрын
    • @@sickturret3587almost every muslim city had already public bath houses before turkic tribes entered the muslim world. Turkic tribes lived in this muslim world for upto 400 years before the ottoman empire was founded. that the common folks of every ethnic living in that area didn't visited a public bath isn't unique for the turkic tribes. Most people lived in villages and were farmers.. villiages didn't had public bath houses.. the turkic people didn't had villiages because theye where nomads but their live wasn't that different from a common roman, arab, armenian or any other ethnic group living in that area. Public baths were only located at cities and only a smal percentage of every ethnic group lived in these cities.

      @maroda8094@maroda80942 ай бұрын
    • They were using natural water sources for bath like every civilized nation did.After settling,the baths were just for elites but there were public baths too as i said it was natural water resources, being clean is an important thing in Turkish culture so its just hamams are from byzantine but other than that its because Turks has a culture of hygiene even before settling

      @furu2090@furu2090Ай бұрын
    • Roman baths and Turkish baths are different and for this reason alone it is correct to separate them as "Roman bath or Turkish bath or Japanese bath, Finnish bath (sauna)". and considering that the oldest bath ruins identified in Turkey date back to 300 BC, there was already a bath culture in these lands long before Rome and others. And as you know, "modern Turks" are genetically a mixture of 25-45% Seljuk (Turkmen-Iranian) and 55-75% ancient Anatolian people, and anyway "hammam" was not a foreign thing at least for 55-75%. And I must point out that the Seljuk Empire and the Turks were not "barbarians" at all, as you Europeans always underestimate! At least they were not as barbaric as the rest of Europe, except perhaps Greece and Rome. Although Selçuklulur did not live very long, they built many universities, hospitals, structures called "Caravanserais" every 40-50 kilometers for the safe accommodation of passengers and caravans, and countless bridges and infrastructure in Anatolia in the 12th and 13rd centuries. so much so that they did this even while the Mongol invasion was ongoing. In fact, the most civilized and developed country of the time was the Seljuk Empire. After this "unnecessary" information, I hope you understand why the bath culture that the Roman Empire took from Anatolia was not so adopted in other Roman lands and did not survive for a long time, and why it survives to this day in Turkey.

    • Don't exaggerate if you want. This is not torture, this is a hard massage and I am sure it is good for your body. Sometimes having a firm massage on the body is very relaxing. His body is relaxing, even though it hurts, that's why he seems hysterical to you.

I've been there 4 times and it's one of the most beautiful places in the world to see, and live. Favorite music is Tarkan. He's the Man there. lol
