Exactly. Trucks are not "economy vehicles". We don't need a 4 cylinder (soon to be 3 if some have their way) in every vehicle.
In 2002 my f250 started a bearing noise with in 8000 miles and denied warranty. I sold it at auction and bought a Toyota. Best decision for me.

Ford bean counters forgot that pickup trucks aren't luxury vehicles. The number of people who are willing to pay luxury prices for a work truck are very few and far between.
even if they could what makes you think they would spend ' luxury ; money on a ford
Generally speaking, People who have $$, don’t give a crap about vehicle brands.. status symbols…. Them days are over !
Unfortunately, there are too many who have, done, and will. Provided they are well built.
Yes they have turned trucks into pimp wagons. We done need all the crap they build into them. Wake up FORD.
In some parts of the country, they are nothing more than statis symbols. I see so many 2500, extended cab trucks in grocery store parking lots, or people driving pristine 3500 diesel duallies to lunch or on errands. The HUGE pickups took the place of Cadillac Sedan deVilles of an earlier generation. I would not mind owing a pickup. But it would be a standard cab 1500 2WD made prior to about 1999. I would only drive it when I need to move a couch or dirt or a part from the junkyard.
The government's hard push for EV's puts automakers in a bind . They have to make the cars cheaper so more people can afford them , then economy of scale kicks in and automakers begin to turn a profit . Government involvement is ALWAYS the number one problem in any business . We need smaller government , less taxation & more freedom . And a balanced US budget .
Yea! Your'e genius. Trump wacko-loco. Go search for black helicopters.
We can’t let the govt shove the Eva down our throats
Since we've talked about this for 90 years, are y'all about ready to pull together & get our Congress out of office?
Yup. They need to stay out of it. They need to undo these ridiculous '24 mandates as well.
Agreed. They keep taxing us up the wazoo 😂, then turn around and use it to finance other countries and line their pockets instead of spending it here to raise quality of life.
More electronics and computerized systems means more things that can and WILL GO WRONG. Bring back vehicles that are reliable and easier and cheaper and easier to repair. Most people don’t want to spend 100k on a pickup truck. We want reliable trucks that have a gasoline engine and horsepower!
The powers that be don't want that for you -- so it'll never happen.
I see zero benefits in having any new automobile. I still drive my 35 year old Ford truck. No major issues, no complaints. It gets the job done.
98 f150, still running well and no problems other than what you would expect on an aging vehicle, alternator, starter and a few other minor repairs.

I own a 2007 pontiac grand prix. One of the main reasons it was discontinued was because of its lack of electronic sophistication. That is one of the best things about it!
I believe it. I tried buying a maverick hybrid two weeks ago, dealer wanting 2k above msrp. I said forget it, I’ll wait till they are selling 2k under msrp.

I get an (retired) employee discount. Dealers are refusing to accept them. Called WHQ, the dealers can refuse them, as they are not a Ford owned entity. It's even worse for EVs, the Hyundai Ioniq 6 around launch had every dealer wanting a 5k markup for a car that's guaranteed to sit there for 2 or 3 months. Makes no sense for them to sucker the only one or two guys willing to buy an EV.

My issue with the screens and cameras in cars is you put someone in a car without that stuff they don't know how to drive because of it. It is unbelievable how many people can't back a car up without a camera or even get between the lines when parking in a parking spot.
Pretty well every BMW and Mercedes I've looked at on the lot recently has touchscreens everywhere.
Not to many people can afford a new pickup that craps out before it's paid for.

My car is old and I've been driving it a long time. I can operate things like signals, wipers, heater / AC, cruise control and so on by touch and not take my eyes off the road at all because I've memorized where the controls are. Can't do that on a touch screen.
When Ford moved production to Mexico, that was the shot in the heart. None of the new cars and trucks are worth what their prices are
Yeah at least with Toyota, people can assume theyre so reliable it doesnt matter where theyre assembled, but Ford is supposed to be an American company made in America for Americans, switching to Mexican factories etc with huge price tags goes against what they stand for as a company.
Ranger, F150, Expedition, Bronco, Explorer, Escape, Super Duty and Mustang are all made in the USA only. Ford has more USA employees then any other auto manufacture in the United States period. They employee more Americans than any other Auto Manufacture in the US to be clear.
Seems all the manufacturers have followed that fatal path. My made in mexico Scamsung refrigerator just crapped out and its only 8 years old
Mazdas motors were made and configured in Mexico and if anything are killing it and are even more reliable than Toyota at this point. Ford has been building trucks for over 100 years and still????
You’re right. Because they just closed down the dealership around the corner from my job. And it’s been there for decades now. All 40 trucks just moved out. It’s just an empty lot. I couldn’t believe it..

Touch screens in cars are unnecessary and bloody dangerous. You switch the lights on so you use a SWITCH!
Fords have light switches. The only thing you really need to use the touch screen for is the radio. The Ranger interior is basically a mix of Bronco and F-150 parts.
My screen died in my Lincoln luckily most of the major controls are still buttons (2018) but I couldn't even tell what temperature the heater was set to, course no backup camera, no radio... what a pain. It was fairly easy to switch out with one I got from ebay, but I cant imagine everything being controlled by one of those. All major controls should be independent of any touch screen IMO.
When automakers started complaining about the lack of computer chips available to build cars, I immediately thought, "well maybe they should make basic stuff physical instead of making them computerized". Then I found out that each and every new vehicle has HUNDREDS of chips in them... All to control the most basic things like rolling windows down, even the dang hand brake has computer chips! It's an emergency brake! You know, for emergencies? Why would they make that digital!? What a joke...
Yes! Bring back physical controls!!!! Hell, I wouldn't mind manual wind up windows again. Get rid of auto start/stop, push button starts, digital shifters for auto transmissions and bring back the manual shifters (and manual transmissions), electric hand brakes, and just get rid of all the useless features nobody cares about. The trucks would be way cheaper and affordable to more people and they'd be a great work truck not worrying about every little thing that can go bad within a year of owning it.

I went from a 2011 Ranger to a 2019 Ranger, and I really like it. I wasn't sure about the 2.3-liter turbo engine, but it is fast and responsive. I like the screen as far as the GPS goes, but when it shows an upcoming road hazard warning, if I try to read it, I become the hazard. Always been a Ford guy. Besides my Ranger, I own a 65 Mustang FB and a 63 Falcon Sprint. I had a 63 T-bird and a 62 Galaxie 500 XL convertible.
We just traded in a 22 vw Tiguan R-line. Lots of codes for electrical. Lucky, all on warranty. Loved the car, not the issues. Got a 24 Tiguan R-line. So far, so good. Crossing our fingers.
The problem isnt the reliability, it's the cost. This market isnt going anywhere, people are being eaten alive by debt.
Touch screen controls seem like a nightmare to me as the owner of a 2017 VW Jetta. The far right side of the touch screen doesn’t work anymore and I’ve heard this from dozens of other people. Thankfully this is only a few infotainment buttons, nothing you actually need for the car. Can you imagine if your car touch screen wouldn’t work and you couldn’t turn your headlights on or off?!
That alone should be a huge flag. You're nor driving a car anymore, you're driving a computer. When's the last time you trusted ANY computer with your LIFE??
@@jessies6502 it’s absurd how they design cars nowadays. It almost makes sense to just lease new cars for a couple years if you MUST drive new stuff. That same Jetta I’m referring to is on the low end of technology in “modern” casa. Manual transmission, no safety features like lane departure warnings or autonomous braking. To me it’s just all more stuff to go wrong in the car. Scotty still wouldn’t approve though because it has a turbo lol.
Was talking to a guy last night who just bought a v6 Ranger and the Turbo charger pipe has cracked, lost oil and blew up the motor on the Nullabour, what a holiday hey !
Long time Ford fan and consumer. I think Ford deserves whatever they get. Crazy high prices, infinite recalls, reliability issues. They’ve built cars so long they should be the best. No excuses Farley.
The people who work for these companies are putting their jobs at risk if they don't ensure quality as it goes down the line. If the company fails, you fail. Management can run a company straight into the ground over money. Boeing is a perfect example of that. With that said, worry not, upper management will be all right.
As for Boeing. The 737 max is what I would assume that you are talking about??? That airplane was a failure from the word go. The frame of that aircraft is from a design from 50 years ago. They took a 50 year old design and put modern engines and electronics on, and rolled it off the assembly line. They should have started from scratch
Don’t put this on the employees. If management cared about quality, a quality product will result. Everything comes straight from the top. They only care about stock price, because they are compensated primarily in stock. I have worked in corporate America for many years and have seen this repeatedly
If I was a bankruptcy judge and Boeing was in front of my bench, I'd make the CEO, the shareholders, and the fat cats take a massive haircut before approving the bankruptcy. The workers and pensioners get paid FIRST. Then the vendors. Then the bond holders. Lastly, the stock holders and other shareholders.
People are not that smart anymore and it's getting worse. Blame it on the education system and smart phones.
@@Sarconthewolf Who's been running our edu-ma-cation system for decades now? Find that out and you'll have your answer. I'd say 90% of comment control system is geared specifically to protect them.
I agree Scotty, touch screens are stupid. I bought my 2019 Civic LX because it didn't have one. Now all of them come with them. What a joke!
I completely agree with you concerning those touch screens and all of that technology crap in new cars. It all vibrates to death and costs a fortune to maintain. I will never buy a car like that. Great post as usual. Thanks Bryan S.
I was in a large storage lot 30 miles away from town and they had about 300 new dodge and Volkswagen vehicles sitting in the dirt.
I found a secret lot in Grand Prairie where GM IS stashing extra inventory
So post the Googe Maps location.
Those lots are all over the place now.
One in Trenton Michigan. Lots of 150s sitting there.
Ford trucks stockpiling at unused airports. Keep the prices up.
The computer systems in a car should only control the engine/transmission and it's efficiency! Make everything else manual and tactile. Will last longer and have fewer problems.
Yep, that would be best for the consumer. Sadly these corporations do what's best for the shareholders.
@@car_ventures They do it because they are non-techs who love new trendy gadget showey stuff. They have no consideration to long term reliability or eventual replacement. In 15+ years time even a brand new spare screen that's sat on a parts shelve won't work because the capacitors will have dried out. The people running these companies have no clue.
Newer cars aren't car anymore, there computers, older cars are cars.
Hey Scotty I totally agree about the growing screens in the dashboards. Who needs them. My phone will always be better and more updated than my car dashboard. Just give me a simple radio and a simple hvac set up and I’m good. Ps I’m not even very old. 34.
I'm still driving my 77 Ford 150. Ac blows cold, and it runs great. And I can fix it when something breaks.
They should’ve never had moved to touch screen to turn on headlights and wipers those are main safety features and if the screen goes out while your driving some where at night time you can’t access headlights or EMERGENCY HAZARDS cuz you can’t turn them on when screen goes out. So then what do you do? Your now stuck in dark on a side road or road that may not have streetlights or many street lights and someone comes flying down the road (thinking it’s ok to speed not many people are out after 11pm) and BAM there you are! Cuz they didn’t see you on the side of road with no light s. So yea it’s extremely stupid and should’ve never been allowed to pass due to the safety. Now I can see if there was a manual override Where u can turn emergency lights on by hidden push button just in case screen goes dark.
Plus those radios always malfunction at least once in your ownership
The reliance upon micro processors and touch screens in autos and everything has reached the level of comedy. Is it that hard to turn a switch?
Most set the headlights to the automatic function and never touch the headlights again.
@@pnwdweler4100 It is still controlled by an electronic component instead of a simple switch. And that component is going to be more unreliable than a switch.
@@pnwdweler4100 "Most set the headlights to the automatic function and never touch the headlights again." I am pleased to announce that I am not "most".
Car makers need to sell basic versions of all heir vehicle's ... Basic with manual roll up windows, Key and heater models , Wing vents ....Basically No electronics at all except a Radio AM /FM ...and you can even omit that also . Basic car or Truck
And no one will buy one of those, folks now cry when they can’t have a heated steering wheel or a push button start
I would like to order a stripper F-150 Lightning EV like that. A battery and a bed on a sled.
When times were good, nobody wanted to buy a base model. So they don't build them
@@paulhunter9613then just offer them as custom orders?
Back in the 70's and before, there were fleet specials. Bare bones basic cars and trucks for fleet and budget-minded buyers. I'm thinking of the Impala S model. Big six passenger car but, stripped. A perfect car for young families that need a car like that but, couldn't afford the better equipped models. Basic work trucks were very common. My great uncle bought a new stripped down '70 Ford Torino. Totally bare bones but, he was that kind of man to prefer such a car. It had 3-on-the-tree and a 250 inline six. The dealer gave him a free radio because he was a repeat customer. Good car.
This is Jeeps issue too. Especially with the Wagoneer. Our Wagoneer was just bought back and the same dealer has 19 other new “premium” jeep lineup products being bought back for random issues. At least half of their buybacks are Wagoneers.
I agree screens are more work and distracting.
Prices are too high for poor quality vehicles over complicated with computer chips Taiwan ain’t making for us anymore
My stupid brother. Just paid $83 thousand dollars. For a brand new FORD F150. He only had the truck for 2 days. He finally noticed he had 2 different seats 💺. He just doesn’t listen.
Um... TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor) is building a new plant, in Arizona, USA. And for the highly misinformed, Taiwan is NOT part of China, it IS an independent country!!! Edit: Taiwan does NOT sell chips to China either.
My Landlords son bought a new Ford Maverick. That thing has lived at the dealership since he's owned it. stayed there for a few months because the window wouldn't roll up. You couldn't give me a brand new Ford at this point.......
What about the 20 recalls
Fine, no free truck for you then.
A friend of mine has had one for a little over 2 years. No troubles, no recalls. Great little truck.
Out of all trucks your son bought was maverick………
mine caught fire.. per ford it was only a "small fire" 😂
My first car, a '56 Chevy, got me from point A to point B just fine.
Here close to us.. just saw them today setting in a old junk yard storage that had been cleaned up out with the old in with new
The new toyota Tacoma offers a manual transmission, ford ranger does not.
It’s a shame really.

I hate the computer screens to. It requires your full attention to use which means you cannot look at the road. You either have to pull over and set everything up and by then things have already changed
Can't you just hear the boardroom discussions when the bean-counters show how much money can be save by not having to design, source and install physical buttons? That's the only reason they're trying to get rid of them.
@@DarkForce2024 You're not wrong with that. It's a creepy world we live in right now.
Ever watch the movie "Brain Candy"... this reminds me of the boardroom decision to make the color of the pill orange. I'm betting the tracking is mandated by some hidden rule deep in a DOT regulation.
There isn't single drive where I do not miss an old single/double DIN radio where only 1 push of a button did exactly what you wanted.
I bought a 2022 Ranger STX off the lot new in May of 22. Has almost 30,000 on it now and haven't had a single issue, absolutely happy with my purchase. But I have wondered where the new Rangers have been though, only see new Mavericks on Ford lots
This happened to me! I put a deposit on a Ranger the dealer said was already built but didn't have a delivery date (in Feb). 2 weeks later, still didn't have one. I ended up getting a Nissan Pro 4X with similar trim. Didn't realize it was this big of a problem Plus GM had a no sail order on all it's Colorados and Canyons.
Ford has become a sad joke of a company.
I got let go from ford... then they fired the boss that fired me, and expected me to come back... id rather starve, then work for a company like that
@SqueezeSVT way to stand your ground. hope everything works out for you.
I used to love ford growing up. It was the car brand I always gravitated to from the get go. But sadly I wouldn’t be caught dead driving one these days.
They still own the Detroit Lions😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@Ethan_AlexandurI used to say buy a ford or Toyota truck… now I just say buy Toyota
I bought a 2011 Ford Ranger extended cab. It’s been great still have it to this day.
I picked up a new/old Bolt from a City of Tulsa OK auction. It had 134 miles on it but would only charge to 60% I paid 1000.00. Great little run around town car.
The last big Ford truck I purchased in 78 cost a little over 3k and I still have it in the back field an F250 4X4 .
Buying LNG from abroad is extremely expensive. Natural gas prices here in the U.K. has trebled in the last 3 years. We've just gone through a recession and growth last quarter was a rounding error. Germany's economy shrank even more. There are huge economic penalties for not buying Russian N.G. The rest of Asia (including Japan) are perfectly happy with it.
+ EU is still buying Russian gas just from ither countries much much higher price
I owned an 86. It went everywhere, and never let me down. Easy to fix. Bought it off my Uncle, who used it as a submersible. TWICE. Once while Hunting the other while 4 wheeling, both times showing off. Rebuilt the engine both times. I bought it many years later. When it did break down. It literally stopped when I backed it up to my front door to unload furniture at my first house. Would I get a NEW one? Never. They are nothing like the old ones. Have a Colorado ZR2 Diesel and LOVE IT.
colorado zr2 diesel? thats legit.
note on Batties I believe that kind like full discharge and recharge where the higher energy ones should stay between 20-80% charge. so you basically get same range just less maximum possible range.
Same thing with the Chevy Colorado many of them have been built since January and have not been released yet
The reason cars have been pushed by government regulators toward all-electric, computer control is for total surveillance and even manual takeover of key functions of the car. Things like engine, brakes, and steering are now potentially controllable by someone else via a computer link, something all modern cars have. New cars don't even have a manual emergency brake anymore. How convenient for someone who wants to do harm.
Bingo
50k for a ranger. Ridiculous. Thanks labor unions, dems, reps
Good point Scotty. Free market is dynamic
100% agree. Manual controls, and not only that, the HVAC needs to go back to cables, and made easy to replace if need be. Instead of electric or vacuum operated actuators. Those break and can be hard to replace. They should never install anything in cars that would require a dash removal to repair or replace. Leave the LCD screen for the radio/back up camera and nothing else.
Government should be making laws about stalks and dials being mandatory over buttons hidden in user interfaces. I live in the countryside, and was driving at 3am the other night and slowed down because I knew nothing was on the road to fiddle with the air conditioning, and when I looked back there was a deer trotting along in front of me. Full sized with the antlers and everything, didn't even indicate with the tail when it left the road. It's against the law to mess about with your phone, but this is worse because the line of sight could be further way from the phone holder.
The government does not have your best interests ever!
I believe some of the old brands are out of this market because of our ridiculous regulations. The Australians get the very basic but very solid Mitsubishi triton.... Not available here.
Where I live (Greece, semi-rural area) the Rangers are very popular. There are more of them around than Toyotas, Isuzus etc. Never heard anyone complain about them falling apart.
That’s just it, they don’t fall apart, but the whiners that don’t own one , or could ever afford one, spews out all kinds of opinions about them
My car never breaks. It sits in the garage and never used. How to keep an American car from breaking down. Stop driving it.
The Ford Rangers in Europe are not the same animal built in US (Mexico). They use Mazda powertrains and assemble mostly in Germany. I live in Greece and work as a mechanic. Have not seen to many problems with them especially the diesels.
I can afford one but I would never buy one. @@paulhunter9613
Lifepo4 batteries are probably being used not because of cost but because they don't catch on fire like the previously designed Bolt batteries would do.
I saw a video of a 2024 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-road 4X4 break down when it was 3 weeks old and had about 3;000 miles. I haven’t seen a Tacoma on a dealers lot since then.
