How to Install a Lift Kit on a Gen 3 Montero

In this video we do a full lift kit install on a 2006 montero. We swap out the springs and shocks, gaining almost 3" of lift over the old original equipment. For reference, the tires are 265/70R17 falken wildpeak at3w on 17 x 8.5 0 offset Method wheels.

  • Radical, you're crushing it with the video output lately and that Montero is looking mean! Your buddy's all black Montero goes great with your all white one. Just want to point out a few things for viewers: 1. Luso Overland does not sell preassembled struts. 2. A load/spring spec chart can be found on our site so you can determine which spring model to go with since it primarily depends on the amount of CONSTANT weight you have on your build. 3. These were 1-2" lift springs but they resulted in 3" because the original springs were sagged down substantially. 4. Super important - you must only do your final torque on the control arm bolts with the suspension loaded, not when it is up in the air (like Montana Montero showed with the top strut tower bolts). In the front this is difficult to do with the tire on but you can simulate it by jacking up the car by the Lower Control Arm until it lifts off the jack stand. Additionally, best practice would be to do this not only for the control arm bolts that were removed during lift install (front UCA, rear LCA) but also to loosen, cycle the suspension up and down a few times, and then re-tighten the other arm bolts with the suspension loaded (front LCA, rear LCA at chassis, rear toe control arm). The reason for doing this is so that your rubber bushings are not under constant torque from the new ride angle.

  • One of my favorite channels for keeping up with Gen 3s. Curious if there are bolts that was only hand tighten so the shocks or suspension can fully rest. After test driving, what are the bolts that needed retightening?

    @andrewabogado@andrewabogado Жыл бұрын
    • the upper and lower control arms are usually left hand tight until placed on the ground. in the case of the polly tough bushings, you can skip that step because the bushing design is different.

    @mskjerpen@mskjerpen4 ай бұрын
    • there are specs, but in this case i know my impact tools pretty well and just sent it. i would say most of the bigger bolts are around 100ft/lbs. after hitting it a few times i do go back by hand and make sure everything is tight. For me and my buddy this job took an afternoon, while filming, and having to do the springs ourselves. if preassembled i would say this is a 4 hour job.

  • Won’t you need to lower your differential now because the drive shafts will be in an awkward angle which could wear them out prematurely?

    @guitarsender@guitarsender Жыл бұрын
    • Not with this lift, actually I’ve never seen or heard of anyone doing that for the montero. It’s common on 4Runners, but not an issue with these. You will run out of travel before you reach the damage point of the CVs

      @montanamontero@montanamontero Жыл бұрын
    • Until you go higher than this it is not a problem. Once you go over 3" though it can chew up CVs and a diff drop, aka "subframe drop" becomes the best way to go but people don't really run into that unless they want to try and run 35s which is not a great idea on the Gen3 IMO.

    @killer0034@killer0034 Жыл бұрын
    • It depends. With this set up you can move the circlip up to the higher position and gain the extra lift you need to compensate for the bumper.. so I would stick with medium duty springs and use the shock as the adjustment if needed
