Curious video. I've seen pictures of BRDM-2 "tank destroyer" before but never actually seen how the launcher was raised. Thanks for sharing.

@jp6869 humvees built after 1994 have more armor & better offroad mobility (plus 2x as much HP) actually. But the BRDM is better at crossing trenches and was built 40 years ago.

Agains IEDs it wouldn't make a big difference... BRDM-2 armor is 7mm thick in the sides and only 2-3mm in the bottom. Even a 7,62x39 would penetrate the side armor =/

@lst1195 Definitely anti-tank. For the anti-air BRDM look up the SA-9 Gaskin.

@@outlaw2747 and its was the same name for all BRDM-2 Strela or Igla in the eastern bloc, except for East-Germany, BRDM-2 with a Strela, but his name was Fla-Com-SPW40 and your SA-9 Gaskin ^^

If I had to drive through an area under heavy fire I think I would much rather do it in a BRDM than in one of our Humvees! The BRDM-2 is a tank hunter but even the BRDM-1 would provide better protection than a Humvee.

During the Vietnam war the Cadillac cage commando or the american version was sort of a work horse for special forces on recon missions and military police in convoys. This vehicle probably did a similarly good job for Russian forces in their later conflicts

В чем основное назначение БРДМ-2 и БРДМ-2 с птур. Я так думаю брдм2 нужна чтобы вести разведку в голове колонны и на флангах, а вот модификация с птур мне лично не очень понятна
