First they faced off in a Lego challenge, and now they've shifted to model trains! Mike found his father's train that has been broken for over 50 years in the attic, and obviously James May was the perfect candidate to fix it! Watch as they diagnose the fault with this beautiful piece of miniature engineering!

New top gear: We need exciting hosts doing crazy things! Old top gear fans: we’d watch James May watch paint dry
So so true!
Well he would, of course, have to dive into the history and/or the science behind what is happening relating it to experiences from his life.
Yes, because any idiot can drive and vomit like Chris Evans, but if you choose to watch paint dry with James May, James will tell you something wise and interesting, something that you couldn't hear anywhere else.
I would listen to him say things about paint
Or watch him assemble a telephone.
The reassembler returns
I would love to see James do a new series of that program.
Took the words out of my mouth
James May is like Bob Ross of reassembling
Yes please
Common BBC there are six people here that would watch a new series that's like double of last time!
I really can't explain it, but I love Jame's doing reassembler type stuff.
It's so soothing, like watching a crackling fireplace
Would love more Reassembler or Manlab!
100% agree with Vincini Car. Soothing. Perfect to watch while rebuilding my slot cars.
In the midst of so much clickbait, fake news, blinkered unreasoning debate, and political BS, there still exists a place of quite, calm, relaxed, wholesomeness that makes KZhead worth visiting occasionally. If you know where to look, and what you are looking for/at. All it really needs to have a more positive view on KZhead content, I've finally found, is to do the filtering yourself. We all 'want content' - but don't let them tell you what that means, or that it's free, or that it's good because it's popular. I've had this on my list of possible things to watch for a while now*. And I've waited until it just felt like I was ready to watch it. And it's very, very satisfying. :)) * Edit: I must have been thinking of another JM post above; because when I got to the end of this one and found there was no part 2 I was SO sad. Until I realised that this has just been posted! Real 'live' content: not just another dead end that won't ever be followed up, hopefully. And that made me happier than anything has this month, tbh.
its most wondferful.
The camera glitch at 8:13 has never made me laugh so hard
Lol
Guess there is still some electricity stored in that old train 😂😂😂
James is having an electrogasm right there
I'm actually dying xD xD xD
Is there someone under the table doing James? 😂
May: 28 minutes of careful examination and repairs Clarkson: smashes it with a hammer immediately Hammond: somehow almost kills himself with the toy train Stig: Sets a new nurburgring record with it
Stig who
@@23gatesy All we know is that he's called The Stig!
@@anindrapratama No repairs at all as yet...its been a week, hope he sticks to his day job...
Not the stig. The stig’s toy collector cousin!
Thank you for this comment, it tickled me.
It's like watching an uncle teaching his nephew the meaning of life
@Le Jeune 6troëniste Dear lord, learn to put a proper sentence together or don't bother at all.
@@99Plastics .. With a name like that, English is probably not his first language. So, we can be a bit more patient, right?
Everyone's going on about how great it is to listen to JM talking about drying paint and all that. (And I don't disagree.) But about halfway through it struck me just how much Mike's keenness, enthusiasm and 'wholesomeness' also makes this fascinating viewing too. A brat of a nephew would make this very awkward to watch. Mike certainly deserves more credit than he is getting here.
Is it a woman .
I could literally listen for hours to James May talking about toy trains, Airfix and life in general.
Mark S. Imagine going to a pub with him?
@@adaptorperish1322 mate I’m half tempted to get a job at drivtribe just to invite James for a drink
"I started doing this when I was 10 - 11 years old" James, the steam train itself had only just been invented when you were born. xD
some say that he actually invented the steam engine.
Doc brown built one in 1885
Always kills me when I am reminded that I am essentially the same age as James and the other Top Gear guys. James seems soooooooo much older. Pretty sure he was old when he was young.
I believe he was good friends with George Stephenson and was one of the first people to ride the Rocket. :D
@@cvn6555 Did you know James went to school with John the Baptist.
This just makes me wish James May's Toy Stories returns.
Toy Stories was one of the best television programs ever honestly
I’ve loved toy stories and the repeats. The one on meccano when James travels to France was great. I’m a Dutch female born in 1950 and my parents didn’t had no money for that kind of toys
But does it have “Realistic Chuffing Sound?”
Happy Hertzair unfortunately it’s not triang, because these were for rich kids and old stiffs that weren’t too keen on fun things like chuffing sounds
Love the reference to his toy stories series haha
it works if the engine is engine driven then you could place the realistic chuffing sound in the locomotive's tender
@@naturespecialist1489 the old tri-ang and railway models are engine powered means there's more space in the tender for sounds
“I could ring my Dad, but bugger it.” #word 😂👍🏼
This video was like watching a doting father and adoring son... This was so wholesome!
DADDY AND HIS CHICKEN
Captain Slow meets Mr Even slower.
It is...heard so many say they wish James was their dad and it´s not hard to understand why.
More like sensei and disciple
Is this like the reassembler all over again? Love it!
I think it's amazing just how good all three of the original TG now GT presenters are at making anything at all fascinating, I mean any one of them could basically carry any show at all and combining them is magic. Could literally watch this kind of thing forever.
"All we had to do was follow the damn train CJ" - big smoke

James May fixes things would be a good regular series. Would watch 10/10
If you don't know about it, he had that. James May, The Reassembler. But we do need more of that.
Today is the day I reevaluate my life, I'm actually enjoying this FFS.
I think you've got plenty of company... ;-)
James May is therapy, can't explain the details of this phenomenon. He just is.
Karl os He somehow is like ASMR, except you also learn things listening to him.
Love the moment James realises he's just blown the motor and while trying to gloss over the fact nearly yanks the wires out of the running gear! It was a near calamity. 😂
Simon67316 Wait for part 2. The motor is fine.
Holyshit I thought the scenes where James starts explaining things that goes on forever were gimmicks. Turns out they are real lol
James may finds town planning dull. I think the takeaway here is: James May finds something dull.
And clearly many people don't find it dull at all considering how popular city building games are. :D
Yup, made the mistake of buying Cities Skyline last week...I want my life back... (SimCity sucks compared to it.)
@@TheAlfsterino Yeah the newest SimCity specifically is just awful.
TheAlfsterino welcome to the club
I really like Tropico 6, that’s another good alternative to SimCity.
James May is my favorite host for any show of any kind. I can't think of anyone else I'd rather watch presenting, especially stuff like this.
Now THIS is content!
24:28 James is under the influence😏😂
😂😂😂😂 of electrogasm
James' voice is incredibly soothing, I could listen to him talk all day.
James May - The Grandpa I always wished I had!
I love anything involving JM and trains. Absolute legend
Might just be the best James video so far, love it
The Most Expensive Toy Train Repairman in the World, and Mike got it done free. Great show.
mike looks like a kid observing dad doing something to fix his toy.. He is the real life version of baby yoda in this video :D
I cannot clearly express how much joy this sort of repair attempt brings me. I'm someone that is repairing buzzing bits and blinky blinks. I'm horribly frustrated by the disposable world we have created. Thanks for this.
Sir James May... You are my childhood... Don't stop, we love it... 👍
I'd really love to see more model train races like the ones he did a few years ago; as a kid I watched them, and even being 19 now I'd still love to see more.
Can’t wait for the next video!!! I miss the reassembler so much!!! James may is a legend!!!!!
Castle class :" Help I can't move." Flying Scotts man with realistic chuffing sound :" I know just the man ,A man who has repaired me to run a main line ,to go head to head with the Germans.''
James is even more nostalgic over a glass of wine, love when you talk about trains or anything old James
Love this makes me want to get my old train set out I laughed when you placed the wine glass in between the camera and the train brilliant 👍
I LOVED the Reassembler. Every episode!
Am I the only one that would like to see an episode of May teaches Clarkson and Hammond to fix toy trains?
Its oddly satisfying to watch May fix trains ......... I can watch this all day....
When James May takes a sip of wine, it's like he has an epiphany.
alcohopiphany
I suspect a glass of red is an essential part of his tool kit for repairing toy trains. Whenever something gets difficult or frustrating, a gulp of wine relieves the tension and gives him new energy to tackle the problem.
Where’s Part 2???? The suspense is killing me, James May what an absolute, total LEGEND😁😁😁😁
I came to the comments to see where part is. I can't find it.
The Reassembler is the shop teacher we all wish we had growing up...I could watch these for hours!
James for PM 🙏
Remember that means war with France day 2 lol
Don't forget he will have the RAF bomb Hammersmith. Lol

I remember James talking about that glorious screw holding screwdriver in the reassembler. I totally need one
I like how may is the only one who could pull a video like this off.
This is utterly joyous. In a world gone mad I need to watch more of James May being slow
I love listening to James May ramble on while tinkering. The reassembler returns! And it’s about time Man Lab came back too!
Absolutely never in my life have I ever had interest in trains or toy trains. But still watched and enjoyed the whole video.
As an O scale model railroad fan, this is very informative, although I also like to see my trains run, I enjoy the scenery, model building, and attempt to make my layout as realistic as I can, all part of the fun Mr. May.
Love it james may, you make pretty much everything interesting, love model trains 👍
i love my fleischman, he was our neighbour for his retired years, cleaned all my stuff in his firm for me for free and of course, gifted us sometimes a little wagon or sth. what great days back in the 80s. and what a great man mr. fleischman was! sadly the firm went bankrypt i think and bought by märklin. much love from germany and thanks for the super video!
The Reassembler is back!! :O
One of my favourite KZhead videos this year, can’t wait for part 2 ...
Mike looks like a little kid sitting with his grandpa who's fixing his toy for him :D
Wonderfully meditative and soothing - Thanks to May, Mike and Drivetribe. More of this, please. Happy new year to all in here. BR, Per (Denmark)
Fabulous! All the Top Gear banter was inspired by a genuine character. This is a very insightful film into who James May really is.
My hat off to you, you do know how to work. And you have an engineer vein in you. A competent one at that. Can't wait for Part 2.
Reassembler is one of my favourite tv programmes of all time, so this is like an early christmas gift. thanks James and Drivetribe!
This is really really cool! Can't wait for the next part. This channel is getting better and better!
The Reassembler, but this time you can see the liquid propulsion, instead of hidden in a "tea" cup. Love it!
good work James always good to have someone like you restore these classic models.
I enjoy seeing the tools, train and makings of the family train. Love that electric smell of childhood toys.
I do so love watching james may so carefully disassemble things.
I just love james methodical way he explains stuff. Hes kinda like that uncle that does cool stuff but takes time to explain it to you . Love it more please
10:43 James realizes the toolkit is askew.
You're a great teacher James May. I wish that December 4 2019 was months ago now that I have to wait for the rest of this.
Ah this is lovely, watching James with the son he never wanted...
Memories of The Reassembler returning!
When is part 2 coming out
Perfect background television.
This man know's how to live the good life. Wine, and the best train hobby. Love u May!
Richard Hammond is making a show repairing and restoring old cars. I say, why not make a show with James May repairing and restoring old toys. And that's an honest idea, cuz it's a show I would honestly love to watch.
24:10 Mike says: "smells like electricity." And i instantly hear Electricity by OMD
When is Part 2 going to be uploaded? No TV cliffhanger is as gripping as this!
James’s watch looks great up close
+1. .. Sir James May is a gentleman and a scholar. .. An industrious, curious and clever kid at heart. Cheers, Vail, Colorado
This is the reason KZhead exists. James May, the legend returns.

Who needs ASMR when you can just listen to james may talking about the repairment and functionality of toy trains? Absolutely amazing
love this sort of videos!
What a fascinating thing to watch. Thank you.
I don’t understand how there’s millions of KZhead videos but for some reason I’m captivated and can watch James discuss toy train troubleshooting symptoms for hours
Looking forward to part two!
I could watch James May sweep a floor and be completely interested! James May is just the Best!
I loved that so much. Best KZhead video I’ve seen for ages. I love model trains and James May is the best
It's nice seeing a model train getting restored on a mainstream channel. I enjoy restoring these things and you don't usually see them getting restored somewhere popular. I've been a fan of this channel, James may & model trains - I never would have guessed all three would be combine in one video :)
I really feel like I could watch James do literally anything and be entertained
i like trains
Slow TV / KZhead. Exactly what we need after a hectic day at the office to unwind.. Perfect!!! Keep it up mister reassembler!
This is the best thing I've watched on KZhead this year
I love it. Never seen James May so much in his element.
The Reassembler was always my favourite show of yours. Carry on.
He has the same calming voice as Bob Ross. Very relaxing to watch.
The glass of wine seems suitable. Here's hoping it comes with the authentic experience of dad swearing profusedly at the small parts.
Loving this to bits!
What an amazing video. James is every child’s dream uncle.
Cant wait for part 2!
I didn't know this existed and I am SO EXCITED to watch all three parts
A thought I in my head. James May, Guy Martin and Adam Savage working on the same project at the same time. That would be bloody brilliant.
