Murder Among the Mormons (2021) is the new Netflix true-crime docuseries about Mark Hofmann, who is one of the most notable forgers in history. Hofmann created forgeries related to the Latter Day Saint movement, which led to fame and fortune. But the truth caught up with Hofmann one fateful day in 1985, as two innocent people lost their lives.
We are joined by award-winning co-director and producer of Murder Among the Mormons, Tyler Measom. His previous work includes Leaving the Cult: Sons of Perdition (2010), An Honest Liar (2014) and Biography: I Want My MTV (2019). Tyler directed this docuseries with Jared Hess, who is best known for his films Napoleon Dynamite (2004), Nacho Libre (2006) and Gentlemen Broncos (2009). Tyler talks about how he and Jared came to turn this story into a docuseries, as well as what they discovered about Mark Hoffman and the nature of belief. In the process we also learn about getting a film idea to the big screen.
“The power he must have felt to create and change history, to alter what millions of people believe, and know and pray to every day - to have the power to change that in your basement is a remarkable feeling I suspect.” - Tyler Measom

    • That missionary was NOT a Mormon. That was Jim Elliot and the movie was called End of the Spear. I read the book based on Jim Elliot’s life. His wife Elisabeth Elliot and the other woman whose husbands were speared went into the jungles of Ecuador and friended the Indians. Excellent story but Jim Elliot and the other men were American missionaries non-denominational faith and not Mormons.

    • I don't know about that one, but plenty of young Mormon missionaries have died on their missions. Yes, murder, but also there has been severe illnesses that have lead to death. There are also many cases, including of young men, being sexually assaulted by other missionaries. These young kids PAY their own way and suffer quite a lot, all to increase the profits of an already obscenely rich church. I think with 50 billion dollars, the church could pay the way of the missionaries and take good care of them, whether in the US or foreign countries. The moral takeaway is if you don't want to be killed, don't go trying to tell other countries what to believe.

    • Why do you feel sorry for members if the church of jesus christ of latter day saints as I don't understand .. I am a member of the church of jesus christ of latter day saints and I don't see why ppl would feel so sad for us as we are followers of christ and yes the church has had its issues in the past but so has all churches.. I feel that sometimes ppl don't wanna understand the faith at all .

    • @@anthonynettleton8346 you aren’t followers of Christ. You are followers of Jospeh Smith. You also elevate the active prophet within the church and follow anything he states. Sorry but followers of Christ only live by the Bible not another book called the Mormon book or Pearls of Great Price. Also, the gold plates according to history were never seen by anyone except Jospeh Smith.
