Why Is Battlefield 1 SO AWESOME?!

Battlefield 1 is an interesting specimen in the modern era of gaming. A time period no triple A developer had dared to go, a premise some would say is foolish, and the brand of one of the biggest First-Person Shooters ever. So how did it turn out? Well, let's find out....

    • I had so many memorable moments myself. I remember the last sector of the Alp map where the defensive team have that crazy strong base at the end. It was nuts because we were on the ground trying to push through the main wall of that base, but had constant machine gun fire around us with fighter biplanes overhead, but this tank came out of nowhere from our team and started to suppress the fire for us to jump the wall and take the main courtyard. We ran past him and his team for the building and the underground tunnels just to see the tank get blasted to pieces by the biplane's bombs. Just a crazy scenario to see and I have so many other moments like that such as storming the beaches, pushing with four other squads through the trenches of the green hilly map, or ambushing enemies in the forest map.

  • I think WW1 really lends itself well to Battlefield. WW1 was known for how it turned small villages and luscious fields into empty lifeless no-mans-land. Battlefield with its destructible environment reflects that perfectly. I've had operations on St.Quentin Scar, in which most of the village and the windmills were reduced to piles of rubble. All the bombs, shells and explosives had torn craters into the earth. One more thing that sets the Battlefield franchise apart is the gameplay with vehicles. In WW1, each side fielded new vehicles to give them the edge and break the stalemate. You can really get a feel for that when you have been struggling to take an objective but then a tank shows up to lead the attack. Often you'll see people running behind the tank to use it as cover. Some of the tanks have surplus seats, so they can act as a mobile spawn point for the entire team. That way, a single tank can create a new frontline. One thing that is unique to BF1 is how it treats the conflict. BF1 doesn't just put you in a battle on some imaginary map and says "have fun". The game tells you what lead to this battle, why it is important, how the people fighting in it thought and how its outcome changed the course of history. It this context that makes your actions feel so important.

      @BananaHoovyJ.Rabbit@BananaHoovyJ.Rabbit11 ай бұрын
    • Spot on. The game is not historically accurate per se but it is accurate to concepts that shaped WW1. Another example is Beyond The Marne. The French has access to shit tons of tanks in that operation, which is based on a battle that's famous for the use of tanks. While the tanks the French team may be using in the game may not be accurate, it really gives the feeling of how tanks played a huge role in that battle.

    • Bf4 isn’t accurate. Bf4 had the MOST customization, not the best. That’s not a good thing, considering there were many attachments that all functioned the same, but just looked different. Just put the best looking attachments with each weapon and cut out all the junk. It also heavily relied upon lootboxes instead of a progression system for the customizables, so that’s a negative. BF3 or bad company 1/2 could also hold the gameplay title as well.

  • in the war stories, i didn't need a bunch of time to grow with the characters. i was able to tell the devastation, the hurt, the anguish, just by the atmosphere and character portrayal. the war stories show the brutality and unforgiving nature of war, such as the desperate hope of the tank captain in Through Mud and Blood as he blows the lines of Bess, or the anger of Clyde Blackburn as he struggles with indecision in No Mans Land. i found myself almost tearing up in The Runner when Bishop meets his end. hes happy to pass the torch, accepting of his successor and his fate. he knows its the end, yet he still smiles in the face of certain death because he knows he did what he could. battlefield one had, what is in my opinion, the best take of singleplayer campaign in any battlefield game. not because of gameplay or story, but because of the themes, the emotions, the characters, the quotes, and so much more. not to mention one of the greatest opening scenes in gaming history. i know this is a wall of text, but i mean it when i say that battlefield one is that game that you can go back and say, "yeah, i remember that. i played that."

    @madmarines4373@madmarines4373 Жыл бұрын
    • Exactly. I don’t think enough people understand that if this game were realistic, it would literally just be one side camping the whole time with mostly scout class weapons while the other just get their asses beat. Maybe after a few hours, or days, or weeks the the roles would switch up. There’d be basically little to no vehicles (especially if you were on the Central Powers’ side). And the ones you do have would probably die of engine failure in the middle of no man’s land. And, if it were realistic, the majority of the gameplay wouldn’t be spent fighting. You’d get to repair trenches, hide in dugouts for several hours at a time from artillery barrages or spend several hours loading artillery, be on guard duty, execute dying horses, spend several hours stealing food from nearby towns because your rations haven’t arrived yet, and best of all, maintaining the local latrines!

  • 18:55 The only thing i kinda don't like about Bf1 is that the story mission are all (with one half exception) from the entante perspective. The central powers are eather mostly ignored or actively villafied. They even have that really good set up in the first mission/tutorial where you will switch between soliders from different nationaleties to show that everyone suffered in that war and nobody was truly the bad guy. But then as the mission go on they elemnt is lost more and more, the germans at best get some funny dialouge you can't understand without subtitles, the austro-hungarians (wich are only displayed as being austrian and never hungarian) are practicly ignored. And the ottomans are displayed as being nothing but rapists and murderes. Don't get me wrong i love this game, they clearly had an idea of what they where going for and they most certantly did it better than most other games but they just dropped it. They then added this perspective change for BfV just to prove that they COULD have done it. So yay we get to humanise the Nazis, becouse that's what everyone wants but the turks or austrians? Fuck no.

  • As someone who this game not only got into history but writing as well, I can safely say that Battlefield 1 operations is the PEAK of battlefield, and this game is my favorite of all time. Not only did EA and DICE make it stand out for its ww1 setting, but they pay an INCREDIBLE amount homage and dedication to the history and interesting things of World War One. An era practically forgotten by most FPS games and glossed over in schools, I can’t even begin to describe how much more this game alone got me into history and an introduction to battlefield as a franchise. Operations is so chaotic and infuriating but when it ends, no matter what side your on, the ending speeches feel straight out of a documentary, not to mention how it gives you the perspective of the soldiers which I just think is really cool. And the behemoths were a really good addition, sure most of the time they don’t make much of a difference and usually die within 5 minutes, but when you get to pilot a dreadnought and get 50 or so kills is just so satisfying, just as satisfying as destroying the behemoths, the animations of them alone is just great, the sounds the dreadnought makes when it sinks, the creaking and groaning as it slips beneath the waves, the massive explosion of the Char 2C and the collapse of the Zeppelin, it’s just so good. Not to mention the DLC’s, how it doesn’t only focus on one front, even the base game touches on the Italian and Middle Eastern fronts, but Turning Tides, TSNP and In the name of the tsar? Every one of the DLC’s felt so damn unique and had me stoked to play it way back when, Apocalypse was meh but still great, I could go on for literally hours explaining how much I love this game. It did so much right, it has so much dedication and passion in it and you can EASILY tell. again, it is my favorite game of all time HANDS DOWN. Because it’s truly a brilliant, magnificent game. Far better than BfV and 2042.

I tried ground war and was the worst experience ever everybody camps on the roofs with one shoot snipers without bullet drop. then after a week I went back to battlefield

      @jeromeschlinger1764@jeromeschlinger17644 жыл бұрын
    • Jerome Schlinger well I’m not gonna lie and say that I didn’t feel the same way at some point. I did the least ideal action and decided to try to adapt the way I play. I don’t know if there are still campers on roofs as much anymore because I have played the maps enough that I know how to avoid them anyways. However even in ground war you don’t get the same feeling of all out war than in battlefield. The environment in battlefield 1 is unbeatable and ground war is most definitely cod just on a bigger map. Battlefield has an amazing talent of making you feel like your in a movie. However ground war doesn’t capture that same feeling however personally I find it fun anyways.

  • As someone who is more on the "historical accuracy" side of games, I can say without a doubt that Battlefield 1 did an incredible job. Hell, they were even able to be diverse without pandering to anybody! The 1st Russian Women's Battalion of Death, the Harlem Hellfighters, people from French-occupied northwestern Africa, the list goes on. What sets this game's inclusivity of a variety of people and groups from other games is that it does so when it has a reason to and is still accurate to the time and setting. That's one of the main reasons why Battlefield V pissed me off so much. Instead of a British woman with a prosthetic arm wielding a cricket bat in WW2, why not include Lyudmila Pavlichenko, aka Lady Death, a female Russian sniper who had 309 confirmed kills? What about the French women who fought? They were in extremely small numbers, but they were a thing. Historically accurate inclusion is fucking awesome, and I love when games do it. But inclusivity for its own sake is terrible and cheapens said character's presence in the game's setting.
