Meteorological spring arrives on the 20th March - and I am HOPEFUL for conditions to improve as we have been having wet weather as the dominant force since end of June 2023 …. This week I’m excited as we repurpose an old gate which will make my life easier!
The more you upgrade the more the farm reflects on you and the more you make it part of ones sell ❤

Three cheers for Nick and all the improvements he has made. Nothing like a well hung functional gate to speed up the day. The old gate should hopefully keep the home fires burning.
did a good job with that gate ........i hope that the weather will change for the better in early april , last week of march looks pretty wet and cold for us over here ....hope fully we will get a good summer after ...... keep up the feed for the ewes , a well fed ewe will have strong lambs , and thats half the battle ....learnt that the hard way ......!

The advantage of a gate that doesn't open is it can't get left open. I think we might have to wait a while longer for some better weather that lasts. Thanks for the video. All the best 🇬🇧.

It was a health hazard to me climbing over and bits snapping off haha 😂 and the barbed wire was ripping my clothes
never seen a woman get so excited over a new gate --its the little things that matter and it saves you and the sheep a long walk down the lane --it will stop raining one day take care

Hi Joanna and Nick, I am not sure if there is a positive to all this rain. The grass should start growing when it warms up and it would be nice for the sheep and lambs to go out in sunshine. Good job to Nick for replacing the old gate with a functional one.The sheep are still looking good although a bit wet. Your Hylands are so gentle and friendly which looks lovely with them all around you. Keep up your spirits cause the weather will eventually improve. Chris from Australia 🇦🇺.

Wet here in Germany and Austria also. Iowan here visiting in this area. We could sure use some of the rain at home. We remain in severe drought for going on 3/years.
Drought is such a concern , it’s a shame we can’t share out the rain water

A real entertaining video Joanna and great beautiful camera shots you have a real talent. Hope that weather picks up because you have an awful percentage of triples which means a lot of work come lambing time. There’s nothing like getting your foot into a wet welly to set you up for the day 😃

WE JUST GOT RID OF OUR SNOW AFTER HAVING AN ON AND OFF COUPLE OF DAYS WITH SNOWFALL. Good luck with that! Friday I planted a new asparagus bed Saturday. We got 8 inches of snow, rain and ice and sleet. So somehow I get the feeling winner isn’t over yet even though it’s spring.

Thank you! Yes the highlands are lovely , they aren’t bossy at that age , the older cows have more attitude !
Great work done by you both in the wintry weather. Nick just gets on with it , seems no problem is unsolvable for him. And you can see that the animals like you Joanna, especially the Highlanders. It may be your perfume or the titbits you give them occasionally.
I am here for the livestock and nick likes projects !

Hi Jo sorry about this but we have had a comparatively dry week, it's been cold and windy with a little rain Saturday afternoon, but not generally too bad. Keep going it will get better and you'll be making hay before you know it (my favourite time on your farm) just love the older tractors in the fields, as ever best wishes to you both from EA.

Hi Joanna excellent video again, the daffodils down the lane look beautiful more than you can say for the weather. The new gate will be very handy by the look of it, you both should be proud of yourselves you have made a lot of improvements lately. Getting beyond a joke this non stop wet stuff.
good job on the new gate.......its good to make use of the granite posts if you can.......they really do last forever providing you dont bash into them with the tractor. im presuming nick had to drill holes in the granite post to fit those hangers.........not easy on the drill getting through granite

We had a few gates like yours Joanna. Back in 1976 (my first year of full-time farming) Dad got 2 separate bank loans and bought an adjoining farm. It had quite a few gates similar to yours and dad used to joke and say he didn't know if we should replace them or have them Heritage Listed😁. Later on when we got the loans paid down a bit we did replace them. Good job Nick. I truly hope so very much that the weather will finally get better for you Joanna and give you a fair go. That gate was quite an assemblage, and Nick did a great job. For the first time, I noticed your awesome stone gate posts. We didn't have anything that solid on the farm I grew up on, & usually had to replace both sides when we hung a new gate..
The stone posts are so good if they are not damaged !! The difficulty is that if we need to access the field with modern machinery the old posts tend to be narrow set and so not so easy to use and tricky to move !
