  • I used to own an Evo and now the GR Yaris and it's true that the GR isn't nearly as playful. You could get the car to rotate aggressively in the Evo with just the throttle and in the GR it's either gripping or understeering (in all 3 modes). But still it's one of the best cars to be released in the past 10 years.

    • This. Only thinl the yaris has better than the evo is size and the fact that is new and more uncomplicated. Evos as of now are a bitch€ to keep fresh and fit. I still think they are the better car.

  • I´ve been subscribing a lot of car channels doing the years and this channel is up there among the very best. Why is that? Despite being a low budget channel, your understanding of cars, your ability to describe what your thinking and your winning personality makes this a VERY good channel. Your take on the Yaris is bold, but I get you. The 4 wheel drive system is very effective, but the drama stays out. Keep up the excellent work ansd continue with your both serious and funny attitude.

  • Coming from a RWD car, this is probably the most relevant review I have seen to date. I have bought the car and for the past 2 weeks in wet roads I have only been able to overpower the Sport mode only in 1st gear (in public roads). The sentence "no drama" totally describes the car, unless you are on ice or snow, you have endless grip vs anything else out there. Never thought I'd say that I dont like too much grip! Waiting for first irrigated drift sessions and trackdays to see some drama

  • Possibly the best, most descriptive review of the base/standard spec "open diff's" car's real world grip/dynamics yet! A "NON lsd's", in convenience pack form. My exact order and colour 😍. Totally get your interpretation, view point and honesty re too planted. Being an M2 owner already gives that away! But drivers have different views/wants re this. It also totally confirms my wants, wishes and hopes upon delivery, for an all year round daily. Effectively, like on rails. Perfect! More reviews of the NON Circuit pack emerging and proving my theory from watching countless European and Australian reviews, due to uk Circuit pack marketing hype, that the standard car is all "I" and many others want and need and that when driving the GR, you only benefit from the circuit's lsd's if esc is turned off!! I test drove a Circuit pack 3 times in uk b4 ordering. Left esc On. Incredible traction, zero wheelspin and planted. There were no standard models to compare unfortunately 😡. However, due to the horrendous all around visibility, I ordered the Convenience pack with the extra safety aids and comforts. The circuit pack with esc OFF would likely resolve some of your disappointments lol.. but I'm sure it still wouldn't give you the true rear wheel drive/on edge sensation you love👍

If you ever have driven an old 2000 Subaru WRX STI, you know what I mean, at 3000rpm there is a sudden burst. The GR Yaris is much smoother! If you compare it with a 3 litre diesel, yeah lag..

  • Great review! You mentioned it not being as fun because of how strong the 4-wheel drive system is, did you get a chance to test it in the expert mode where it allows more movement/fun (Some reviews have mentioned it but it's not talked about much)? Its the feature where when it's in sport or track mode you press the stability control button once to go into "expert" mode on the dash or hold it to disable it altogether. Did this change the feel of it much?

  • Excellent review of this fabulous little car. I’ve only owned my GRY Circuit for just over a month and I absolutely love it. Interesting that the reviewer got some comments about it not being as much fun as his M2 but to be honest depending on where you drive I agree. I owned an early M2 (2017) and felt it was nowhere near as complete as my e92 M3 so can’t comment on the current M2 but on smooth tarmac (and I assume the track), the GR Yaris has too much grip to to give me the thrills my old M3 or even more so my Giulia Quadrifoglio had both being RWD. That said where I live in the UK I have lots of twisty but fast B roads but the tarmac is often uneven and bumpy and this is where the GRY is in a class of its own. Nothing, and I mean nothing can soak up the bumps and uneven cambers like this car and for that reason for me this car is a keeper. For those however who want tail out thrills on wide fast A roads, then that old V8 M3 takes a lot of beating.

  • Ok I see your points and not fully wrong. I have been a owner of a Red GR for a month and love it to bits but I have drove my Brother's M2 not comp and yeah very different feel. If you want burnouts and going side ways this is not the car for you. Now for M2 or M2comp both great cars but double if not more in price new vs GR. So my view is if you are still thinking about this car in the years ahead and love RWD cars get few mods for this car. Say 300 to 350hp and I did hear some UK guy is going to crack the AWD systems to make it 100% RWD then this car will go to the next level in excitment. For me a better exhaust and Intake for improved flow and better tryes than the Dunlops the lower level comes with is enough. PS Still great video mate. It's ok not to fall in love with this car but I did big TIME.♥️

  • Hmm, I own both a GR Yaris and a manual M2 and I have to say I don't agree with everything you say as you kinda make it sound like the Yaris is quick but not as much fun, which of course is very subjective and absolutely ok if that's how you feel. I just personally really disagree. The Yaris GR's chassis is so stiff and it's so unbelievably accurate and nimble, the steering is much better, the manual gearshift is infinitely better, the brake feel is way better. And yes, the Yaris drifts. Maybe not as easily as an M2, but it does. I absolutely love the M2 for what it is but next to the Yaris it feels kinda spongy. Driving the Yaris on a winding B-Road is pretty much the most fun you can have in a car in my book.

    • "you kinda make it sound like the Yaris is quick but not as much fun" - I actually said exactly that. Of course it's subjective, everything about cars is. That's why there are so many different cars on the market.

    • @@TunedIntoCars Absolutely. Didn't want to say you were wrong :-) Just wanted to present another opinion. I recently drove The Yaris and a 991 GT3 RS Mk2 over the same mountain pass and I find that the Yaris was at least as much fun, if not more :-D

      @sveeny@sveeny3 жыл бұрын
  • You are 100% right that this car drives like a train on dry and even wet tarmac. Only snow and ice can turn this car into a fun machine but... On another hand it was brought from a WRC world were efficiency is a key thing. So we should not be surprised that handling here is a number one. Only those who drive 5 liter engine’s with a loud exhaust will be disappointed. This is a different car. Once owning Mustang or M2, willing to go on a track you just buy a GR Yaris and you are happy. You have a fun car you drive daily and you have a sport car that can be used on a track.

  • sometimes people just say things to be different...calling a GR Yaris "not playful car" is one good example...comparing an M2 RWD vs a AWD, its another good example. Ive driven several991s, GT3 included and this car is one of the most playfull cars I've eve driven, you just have to drive it hard to make it "playfull". 70/30 ratio its a must.

    • or maybe sometimes people just say ... what they feel. It's an objectively good car, just not for me. Just because you disagree with someone, doesn't mean that someone has an 'agenda' or something like that. Also, I have 3 friends with that have bought this car, that disagreed with my conclusions. They love their cars! However, fun fact, none are stock. All have been remapped, all have switched seats and suspensions.... Makes you wonder...

    • @@TunedIntoCars of course, everybody has the right to an opinion and express it, and that’s why I express mine. knowing the car myself it’s odd Hearing that the car isn’t playful, just watch YT videos and you only see people sideways with the car… the car comes with an “all world/road” settings of course people will mod it … people mod theses cars because they are cheap, ultimately they just get a worst car in 99% of the cases. There are cars that don’t excite, this is not one of them, you can say that there are other better cars, but some things said mean that 1-you didn’t drive the car as you should,, not hard but blurry hard , 2-you are just saying that to make a different debate. I don’t know you, so I just may wonder and express my opinion. As I told you I own every 911 from 65 to the day, I drove a GR for 30m in a mountain road and it made me smile much more than a gt4 for example, and that’s why I’ve bought one in the spot….because it’s exciting, so this explain why it’s unusual to read someone saying it’s not exciting… it can be ugly, it can be quiet, it can be small, but unexciting it’s tough to believe

I felt the same after buying an impreza.. sure it was very quick and effortless cross country pace but once you got used to the power it was actually too stable to have fun on the road. My old 106 GTI was far more fun !?! ..and yes, I'm totally aware how bizarre that statement sounds. It seems that the BMW was engineered to be deliberately "fun" to such a degree that for someone that is not easy impressed it becomes vulgar. At the racetrack the gap is even bigger. The M2 feels really heavy and squirmy under braking. I think you just have a bad taste that makes you not to love a really well taught chassis vs a hooligan

    • Hi grandpa, welcome to KZhead :) You're absolutely right. The Yaris is more nimble, lighter and probably better to drive on track. And it definitely has a better gearbox than any modern BMW manual. We can agree to disagree on brake and steering feel, as I have the M2 Competition with the upgraded brakes and you're referring to the LCi, but I digress. The 'problem' here is that I didn't claim my M2 is better. I just said that, for me, it's more fun. At which point you said I'm wrong and that I have 'bad taste' and that it's stupid for me to not challenge your 'arguments' :D See what I mean? This is not math. • OMG No! You reviewed the wrong GR Yaris! This is the 'inconvenience' pack LOL!

    • Lol....No, it's the "better" real world daily for the road! And hardly lacking in grip, even on the average stock dunlops. Although in this review it's probably on winters. Circuit pack is the inconvenient model due to the poor comfort spec. Yes, circuit definitely better for ultimate grip on loose gravel, snow or track driving due to lsd's, but only evident when you turn off the esc! Not particularly sensible unless you've got plenty of room for error. And that's applicable to even the most highly skilled drivers! Some are buying the GR as a daily for the road only, a car that's fast, fun and planted all year round. If not bothered about the Convenience pack extra comforts and safety aids, which I am, and not going to track it, the base standard car is actually the shrewd choice!

    • @@James-RJMCongratulations! You are now the first reviewer that said the GR Yaris isn't fun to drive lol. So by logic, SOMETHING must be wrong. You're either crazy, or you reviewed the wrong car. But you must be crazy, because you dig yourself further in a hole by claiming to prefer the inferior driving spec of the car because of a negligible boost in comfort, while every other reviewer has said that there's hardly any difference in comfort between the two specs. If this non track-pack is the only car you could get your hands on for a review then I understand, but... LOL, don't waste time trying to write an essay on why you prefer the 'inconvenience pack' LOL over the track pack... this video is a DRIVING AND FUN FACTOR PERFORMANCE review... you're comparing the inferior driving model to your M2 for crying out loud.

    • @@sunrisesunset1734 Thanks for your unnecessarily rude reply/essay! Here's mine: Your above comments make little sense and are garbled. Fun is subjective and for my requirements, currently, that includes small, light, manual, awd, darty, quick and planted all year round grip - fun! Not wanting to drift. Only uk review/ comparison was piston heads and they stated that the base model was significantly less firm to the circuit and all you need for the road. Others from Europe have stated the same. Also commented on the 2 lsd's being quite noisy and the car's esc whilst On, disguising the differences between open diff's and torsen lsd's. I drove a demo circuit 3 times. No standard spec for a dynamics comparison. If it hadn't been for the atrocious rear and rear quarters visibility I'd have likely ordered the circuit, at the time naively believing that the lsd's were a must. But due to this issue I nearly walked, hence the 3 test drives, but then researched for weeks to establish if the open diffs set up would be adequate for my needs as a daily and if so I could get the Convenience pack which would sufficiently resolve the substantial blind spot issues. No rear wiper, once dirty along with the rear camera lense you will be able to see nothing. I actually prefer the enkei black gloss wheels with the grey callipers. Also good to know that a buckled wheel by potholes is £400 to replace compared to £1169 for forged. Will change the dunlops to Goodyear f1 supersport which are marginally better than ps4s's in steering response and wet weather, suspension will be better as a daily and on longer journeys and lsd's not relevant for "my" use or needs. Drove Circuit demo with esc On and will do the same with mine. Will benefit from rear cross traffic alert and emergency braking, parking sensors front and rear, blind spot monitor, hud and uv windscreen, better stereo and speakers and a built-in sat nav without an annoying cable attachment and phone flying about and will also have a constant reception. Plus discreet ambient lighting by inner door handles. I've never implied one dynamic set up to be better than the other. There are pros and cons to both. For my needs, the Convenience pack is the best. I'm sure there will be plenty of circuit pack owners that get the benefit of that spec but there'll be plenty that will likely not track it and quickly see all the inconvenient points to the GR, especially without the Convenience pack! p.s I don't drive an M2. I was referring to the reviewer's car in my other post! Happy motoring....

    • @@James-RJM Aww come on, don't play the rude card when you're clearly caught... caught trying to paper over the cracks in your review of the watered down model of the car by claiming it's the more viable option. More viable for who? An M2 driver like you who thinks the car isn't fun? Some grandma who doesn't need 260 horsepower? You sit here telling the world that the convenience pack, which isn't fun for you is the one to go for. Meanwhile, in the real world, Australians CAN'T WAIT to get their hands on the proper model. And, all the reviewers have said that the model you drove is a waste of money compared to the real deal, there's that.

  • Finally!! After driving a GR yaris it has to be one of the most overrated cars!! Awful driving position, Awful view out, clinical handling wich just grips and then understeers..this isn't the best hot hatch. Its a rally rep. Proper hot hatch should be small light fwd. I've never driven a mk8 fiesta st but i bet it would piss all over this for fun!! And i drove the supposedly better circuit pack..
