These cars were from the late 80s. Mercedes 190E Evo II 1988 and the BMW M3 1987.

@@drazenbudis7881 they had it in group a aswell since they used a modified formula which allowed abs. Mercedes first used it in late 1990 and bmw soon followed. Essentially beginning from their Evo 2 cars they had abs
what i like the most is the fact that they used 2 Mazda RX-7's as safety cars :)

I was there in 92. Sitting at the end of the straight across from Lisboa. Because the Mercedes and BMW dealer rivalry they brought in factory teams that year. Great racing.

When the world was not so regulated, and rules imposed on cars to detune them for emissions sake..
Rally Group B 87'...(by'standers would be like tree's) and all cars had well over 800 hp with hidden rocket fuel bi-cells..drivers smoking cigaretes just because they can..just look at this era of now...no smokes,, all cars run on batteries and no people at all because thats not healthy any more..
@@nicholaskasolosungweashikk4053 but these cars were really slow in actual standards. There 0-60 mph time are over 6 seconds. An actual Golf GTI is a way faster. Despite today's regulations, all sports cars and hot hatchbacks are much more performant. The Mercedes A45s AMG (A-Class) has a 0-60 time of 3.9 seconds. At the beginning of the 90s, no supercar even managed this. The actual 911 Turbo Accelerates to 60 mph in under 2.8 seconds. That didn't even make a Formula 1 car in the 90s. Modern three cylinder engines with 1.6 liters reach nearly 300 hp. In the 90s, this required twice as much displacement and cylinders. Yes, these races and the DTM in these times were absolutely great and impressive. But I can't say that the actual cars are less exciting.
@@Baka023 these cars were banned due to to much killed spectators. It was way too dangerous. I'm quite happy that a race will be interrupt when a driver or a spectator dies today. And I'm glad that this indifference about human life no longer exists these days. Btw, At that time almost everyone smoked, so the drivers smoked too. It was nothing extraordinary.
Thats True..drivers and spectators should not be harmed in any endurance or compition races.by watching these old VHS footages still is one of the most impressive races that men ever kept going on untill 8 or more people and drivers had to pay the highest and ultimate price and ofcourse..(R.I.P) but it had a kinda charmes..all these insane drivings skills vs men and even women working all together with brutal over'kill-machines that were only designed and produced for such cable powers on grid snow mud..just road especialy in any type of terain or weather condition thats wow!! these cars men and women were truely living legends and really somthing else.. this were like the ultimate rally cars when awd meets and beats rwd for good..and kept going on by winning over and over again still other corps.Found out how to transfer all these insane powers on all 4 wheels and all the cars had to be in production strictly by regulation rules and still for today such a super classic even spotted in street legal versions and they are all such cool lill time machines on there own on 4 wheels..each and every single car company had his dirty lill secrets and specs allready builded in .. so this one day i spotted this ferrari red lancia delta intragrale and its true what they say about these cars.. it will never be the same again only restored and ofcourse banned.. So seeing footage of much later era is still fun and inconic to watch. Greets

Thanks for uploading this! I vividly remember the commentators talked about Ellen Lohr - only female DTM driver (ex-teacher). I was 6 yrs old at the time and was amazed by her stats as I didn't know female racing driver exist until that day.

One of the best circuits of the world. This is for men with head. The mercedes wont all and lost. Save by Ni Amorim with a old car and specs for dont give any change to beat any mercedes boys. But he pass them when they park his mercedes along circuit. BMw M3 with 5 years old beat mercedes in all line. I saw this race on the day and all is on chok becouse the mercedes race. Great bmw m3

Ludwig hit some oil was clearly a bit on the brakes and the rear of the Benz stepped out. In the slow mo you can tell pirro didn't touch ludwig at all.
Ludwig was a dirty driver.
Ludwig was pushing it too much, you can see his brake fades.

Wish I videoed more Screensport motorsport coverage back then. I recorded plenty, but would've loved to have had more complete sets of highlights, JSPC, IMSA, WSC, Indy... 😞

Interesting to see a Nissan R32 & a Ford Sierra Cosworth in the race. Wouldn't have thought the E30 & 190e would have the upper hand over those cars?. I guess they were more suited to a tight track than the turbo cars maybe ?
During its appearance in Macau Guia from 1990-1992: - The R32 wins in 1990 for maintaining 1st place from first to finish. - For such controversial feat, it was forced to be given a 140kg weight penalty for 1991, thus ended up in 4th place. - After such results, the weight handicap has been reduced to 90kg for 1992, but ended up DNF due to engine problem.
As for the DTM / Gr. A E30 and 190E in Macau Guia From 1990-1992: - The Schnitzer (Best form) Gr.A E30 is at 330whp, 1040kg in 1990. - For 1991, The Both the E30 and 190E (its first appearance) are in a “DTM Form”, were running at 340whp, 940-1000kg. *Further Weight reduction and Increased power* - For 1992, both the E30 and 190E (its last appearance) were both running at 380hp, 980kg. *Fixed weight and increased power*

It's almost like the tortoise and Hare race here you see all these Mercedes and BMWs rip roaring around the track crashing and such and then you see the GTR just kind of cruising behind them, biding his time waiting for that opportunity to pounce. Haven't seen the end of the race yet so I don't know what happens tho..
Bmw got the 1,2,3,5,6 position in the end. Mercedes was in 4th. 7th was Ford Sierra rs, 8,9,10 was Toyota corolla ae92. And that Nissan? Couldn't even finish the race sadly.

The e30 BMW M3 and the W201 Mercedes 190E Evo II are a beast of its time and so superior to the rivals. Nissan, Ford and the other manufacturer are quite not relevant.
They aren’t “relevant” in the European side of the spectrum.
@@ooohhenrybmblm Macau is not in Europe. And Ford is based in Cologne Germany and builds and designs all the vehicles for the European market there, but in motorsport they could never win anything when other German and European brands were there.

@@user-gn7mq4rt4p No, even in 1992 with less penality weight. The GTR R32 still got killed by the 190E 2.5-16 EVO2 and M3 EVO2 DTM.

The GTR has straight 6, twin turbo, 4WD and 4 wheel steering VS the 190E and M3 only line 4 NA rear wheel drive with lighter body. Therefore, the 190E and the M3 are pure Godzilla killers.

Happy to say IMO, despite the R32 GT-Rs didn’t managed to become overall champions again after the 1990 season by Masahiro Hasemi. At least all of them that participated (1990-1992) still survives and never experienced DNFs due to crashes, mainly due to engine/mechanical failures, which I would still consider it as a success for the R32s 😅 Yes, the Schnitzer M3s was indeed for me the most successful since they were back-to-back champions, primarily by Emanuele Pirro on 1991 and this 1992 season, alongside his teammates Roberto Ravaglia and Joachim Winkelhock, with one DNF due to crash of Ravaglia in 1991 I guess the Mercedes Benz 190Es were not that much successful, despite that they got 2nd and 3rd place by Kurt Thiim and Klaus Ludwig in 1991. But this 1992 season turns to disaster, where three Berlin 2000s teams crashed which those three were DTM stars I believe, and only one managed to finish 4th, by Ni Amorim.
