With strong winds forecast, this week I decided to head over to North Wales in search of some surf and silver bars. Fishing a new mark, recommended by a friend, I found the surf that's for sure, but did I find the fish.
This weeks tackle of choice:
Akios Fury FX420 paired with an Akios Airloop R10
Akios Airlyte 355 paired with an Akios Spyro RS5000
Loop and Pennel rigs
Baits of choice were lug worm, rag worm, and squid

I fished this weekend, on a low tide in the Bristol Channel on the Welsh side, using rag worm, my bag included an eel, 3 x codling and a 4lb bass all on a 2 hooker flapper bottom hook lol😊

Hard lines mate. That looked like a perfect opportunity to try tapered mono. Such as Inova Taper-Tech Tapered Main-Line. 🐳👍
I'm not a fan of the tapered mainlines if I'm honest mate. One break and you're back to square one. And considering you can buy a 1/4oz spool of standard mono and a reel of shockleader or even tapered shockleader for the same price, I'm just not convinced.

Thanks for the vid! I had a session like that last week on a venue fishing down to low - by the time I’d cast out and put my rod back on the stand I had to move everything down the beach and cast out again! Got a bit tedious in the end. Might stick to fishing low to high and a bit back down in future… 🤦🏻
I hate fishing the tide down for that reason. I don't mind a couple hours either side but the middle 2 is a no no for me
@@theawfulangler Yeah, you never get time to take stock of how you’re actually fishing. Been told the trick is to fish it light with a single rod, minimal tackle & bait - but that’s not really my style! 😅

Hiya Alex, another great vid certainly calmer on the west coast, like a daft sod I did the two bus trip over to Hornsea on Saturday bloody hell that wind, no chance on the north beach and even on the south beach the wind was to strong really, couldn't cast out anywhere near far enough with the breakers so far out, gave up after a couple of hours, another blank 🤷 PS that big toe looks nasty I've thrown away better looking baits than that😆
Yeah, definitely the right coast to head to last weekend. I'm not sure i could have done much better in the time I had. Maybe do the extra miles and head to anglesey, who knows

Always enjoy your fishing especially today with the banter keep them coming. And remember it’s not always about catching. I’ve been to Anglesey since Friday not fishing. been with the other half. But been looking at some beaches. Lots of choices here beach and rocks. Hopefully come back one day with the rod. Monday going down the west coast to the south. Call in a few beaches. The thing is I can travel all the way here and fish don’t get me wrong anglesey is beautiful. Then there will be someone pulling out bass at the Holderness shit pipe lol.
Haha always the case mate. Last week after I'd grafted for 8hrs for one doggy, the next morning the rays were crawling up the beach and the first hound of the season came out too
Never mind Alex, if it's any consolation went out trout fishing on a local pond yesterday and blanked (had one good bite and missed it). Grandson fishing right next to me caught 3 nice Rainbows using same bait and tactics and casting his gear only about 5 yards from where I was putting mine! C'est la vie!

My local beach mate, crabs are horrific at the moment and worth re-baiting every 15 minutes. No good hight to low on that mark, better 2 hour after the flood up to high. Popped out last night, plenty of Bass. Off out again in the morning.
Crabs was the one thing I didn't struggle with mate, baits came back untouched. I think if I'd have been contending with crabs too I'd have been away much sooner 🤣🤣
Well I went and Bass were caught, not big but still Bass. Wasn't as choppy as I'd prefer but still movement and that's all it takes for the Bass to feed. Remember down up not up down on sandy beaches. 😁@@theawfulangler

I don't know of any spots for lures, really, until you get around to anglesey, if I'm honest, mate. It's always worth having a crack on the beaches, but Liverpool is more a ray/hound spot through summer.

Hahaha this is class will have to show the missus - I had exactly the same rant today driving home from Bournemouth 183,9p for diesel on the M3, its absolutely criminal - its not even like they can use the land price or rent as justification.

My missus is a diabetic foot specialist, you would do yourself a big favour soaking that foot in sea water when you go fishing, it would heal up in no time.
Not sure about soaking it in some of the places I've fished before, guess that's why they gave me a tetanus booster 😂 thanks though. The nails been the biggest thing that has kept opening it back up, but as of today, that's gone so hopefully heal in no time at all.

Honestly mate when it comes to NW you can't really go wrong. So many marks to choose from. It's pretty much a case of pick a spot car park up and have a go.
