    • technically Kungfu means Skill, which is really broad. For Chinese, do not be surprise if teacher or parents praise their children "your writing kungfu is good" or "your math kungfu is better than me". Same goes with cooking, martial art, caligraphy, dance, programming and many thing else.

  • Don’t clickbait, the thumbnail is so fake. The dude on the left is not a karate master but instead a Brazilian jujitsu black belt named Royce Gracie and they edited the monk on the right. The monk was edited in place of Ken Shamrock (I’m pretty sure that’s right) and the edited picture is from UFC 1 (circa 1993). So as a fellow martial artist and BJJ practitioner I can safely say that the thumbnail is FAKE

    • The only exception to this are the art forms that are simpler to learn. I don't think someone should have to be a world class athlete to learn self defense. Someone that can't do the high flying kicks, or the acrobatics of capoeira, can still learn and practice. The simpler, the better.

      @carlschnackel3051@carlschnackel3051Ай бұрын
    • @@carlschnackel3051 I agree. The simpler, the better + the endurance of striking and the capability of taking abuse. One can train outside the "ring" all they want, once in a fight or flight mode, the body could respond in an entirely different way.

      @Rain-Dirt@Rain-DirtАй бұрын
    • That is entirely true. A style of fighting is an oxymoron. If you even train to do this thing or that thing, you have eliminated your freedom and become a slave to defeat. You train your body to endure and be flexible, you then beat them in their own style.

  • It's honestly more about the fighter than the martial art. No matter what style you are if you can't apply it in a real life situation you are little more than a dancer. Having over 4 decades of experience in a system of "kung-fu" I can definitely say that there's a very serious difference between the ring and the street. Another thing is the style has to fit you. Your personality and body build. I've tried several styles, and have friends in several very different ones, my best friend is a sensei in American Kenpo Karate. He's as effective in his arts as I am in mine if not more so. My point is its a matter of the fighters and often a matter of a "lucky" hit. I've heard this debate over karate vs kung-fu for nearly 50 years. It's old and tired. I suggest to anyone interested in martial arts try a few, find the ones that fit you best. And then focus on becoming the best YOU can be, then be a little better. Harmony

I guess this is something really frightening in a fight. I mean in a real fight. I am also doing martial arts for over 20 years now and am used to be fighting against points and such but then that is very different from a "real" fight overall. But if I do see this guy handling those punches like he would eat breakfast, this is fascinating.

    • Well yes, it just refers (in modern usage) to a Chinese martial art. In Chinese it does not even mean just martial arts, it just means something that takes time and patience/ skill to learn, like cooking, or painting. You are also right, there is every single type of style possible to be found in China, from boxing to wrestling.

      @natepoodle9132@natepoodle9132Ай бұрын
  • It all depends on how well you master the martial arts style. And whether the style you master has any weaknesses. The more complete a style is, the more prepared you will be in battle. Bruce Lee did it the smartest, he combined several styles such as Wing Tsung, traditional Kung fu, boxing and much more. But what he used the most was WT which is very effective in combat.

  • Many, many years ago I was a student of Shaolin Kung Fu. I was taught it was defensiive and not offensiive. To me it was more of a ballet. I am a female and it was me and 99 men. I drove our Master crazy for months until he finally took me into the class. Back then, about 50 years ago, there would have been no logical reason so compete with karate. Kung Fu was considered spiritual. Twice a week I spent 3 hours a night. Half of the time was physical moves and practice and half on spiritual stories. There should have been no reason for the two very different "sports" to compete. My honor still goes to Shaolin Kung Fu and should be taught in its original form, not for fighting. It is good for children, who can move on to Karate later. So send your children, girls and boys, to classes in Shaolin Kung Fu.
