When in doubt give up halfway and you'll be speaking in no time!
Go ahead, try and pronounce "rød grød med fløde"
and that sandwich was worth every cent.

I've been learning danish for a few months now and I'm praying I'll be able to visit one day. UPDATE: almost two years later and I've finally seen Denmark! I was only in Copenhagen for about two days but it is such a gorgeous city and definitely worth visiting. I'd love to go back and spend longer in Denmark, beautiful country ❤️

  • Honestly, as a proud American, I can say that for some reason I have always been fascinated by Denmark, especially the flag and its history, and it surprises and irritates me to no end how many people do not seem to realize that it exists at all. Love from the United States!

  • As someone who speaks Norwegian, I would note there are bigger discrepancies, particularly between Icelandic. The other three I can agree with, but Icelandic is far harder to understand. As someone who speaks Norwegian as my second language, I can pretty much understand Swedish and Danish. But, would rather speak english to an Icelander. Norwegian, Swedish, and Danish are like siblings, Icelandic is like our close cousin. And Finish is that weird neighbor down the street.

      @ellataylor1957@ellataylor19578 жыл бұрын

Icelandic is pretty difficult for Danes Norwegians and Swedes to understand BUT they still have SOME similar base words.and linguistic structures 3. TECHNICALLY if you want to be REALLY picky you COULD say "Denmark was a founding member of the EU since they were originally part of the EEC which kind of just "absorbed" into the EU which is why I said it in the video however some will disagree. I do however think that it was a mistake to say that Denmark was a founding member of the Eu... In case anyone was wondering Denmark joined the EU in 1973 together with Great Britain and Ireland and the founding countries were Belgium, Italy, France, Germany, the Netherlands and Luxembourg.

  • One thing you didn't mention, and it's probably one of the most important things, is the explanation behind the high tax system. We get free medical care (no matter what it is), free tuition (from elementary schools to high schools to universities to workman educations - everything is covered). Now, we're just getting started. Students, when older than 18, get paid for studying. This amount can go up to $950 every month. You see, we're covered by the state of Denmark. If we're educating ourselves, we get a thank you that can cover accommodation, food and more every month. If we're fired, we're getting unemployment benefits. These are just one of the great things about Denmark and why I strongly believe that it's one of the best countries in the world. To sum up: Denmark has a stable government, low levels of public corruption, and access to high-quality education and health care. And yes, the country does have the highest taxes in the world, but the vast majority of Danes happily pay as we believe that higher taxes can create a better society.

    @aperfectionist@aperfectionist5 жыл бұрын

    • +AlexanderPihl Let clarify something about our healthcare system. Far from everything is covered. Dentistry is not covered, physio therapy is not covered, mental health is covered if you don’t die before you actually get to your appointment. Most psychiatrists have a waitlist of 6-12 months, some even longer. If it’s an emergency there is help to get but you better have strong plans of how you’re going to kill your self before you’ll get a bed for the night. I have spent the better part of 20 with a depression that was difficult to kick and of those I spent 1,5 years in bed because my depression was so bad that I barely could take care of myself. I knew I was not sick enough to get the help I needed, so I decided to wait it out. Believe I was grateful for the 3 years of cancer treatment my mother had before she died, but we need to not kid ourselves in regards to our healthcare system. There is a reason we only rank 3-4 places below the US in healthcare, mental health being a big part of it.

Traditionally we've been a major producer of pork and the food culture is heavily influenced by pork dishes. We're also a major exporter of medicine, as Novo Nordisk is the worlds leading insulin producing company. Of course, A.P. Møller - Mærsk was a danish guy who started Maersk, as we all know. Then, we have a large market share in high-end audio products from companies such as B&O, Brüel & Kjær, Oticon etc. So I promise we do more than grow fir trees and wheat, lol

  • The Norway reference is pretty spot on. If two countries could be a couple, Denmark and Norway would probably be one. Except we kinda suppressed them for centuries and kind of took over their country and made them write our language and pay taxes without getting much in return, but you know... We're cool now.

    • are you a Dane? because the last time i checked we as the people don't really like them, we see them as stuck up twats, and they see us as the stupid inferior ones, just beacuse our leaders like each other doesn't mean we actually like each other, Sweden and Norway have a better relationship then we do.

    • I wouldn't say that Sweden set Norway free in any way. Norway was on their way to independence by the hands of King Christian Frederik and was again occupied by Sweden after Napoleon lost the war against GB and Russia. Its thanks to him that Norway got their constitution and was able to be relatively "independent" during the last occupation of our country. So in a way, Denmark was actually helping us to get our independence much more than Sweden ever did.

  • Denmark is so much like my country, the Netherlands! The 'hygge', the 'you are not better than others', the bikes, the landscape, the agriculture, the weird language, the sirens and even the joke that the sirens are warning you for a German attack. Denmark is just like The Netherlands, with a Scandinavian flavour.

  • 5:55 yeah the reason why denmark is so good at speaking english, aside from globilization and digitalization, is that they just don't dub any movies except for child movies, so things like disney or todler shows. So kinda comes automatically of learning english, next to learning it early in school, as english is a mandatory thing.

  • As a Dutchman, I fled the Netherlands 10 years ago and will definitely move to Danmark. The Netherlands has become a country that gives asylum seekers priority in their society. The Dutchman will no longer be given a home, it will first go to the asylum seeker with priority. There is no need to work, the free money is provided to the asylum seeker in abundance. Danmark took measures a few years ago to screen asylum seekers before they enter their country. The result will be in 2021: asylum seekers who have arrived in Denmark are 1,353, Norway 2,900 and the Netherlands is 52,000. The Danish and Norwegian borders are closed, the Dutch border is open and will remain open. The Danish society is economically very strong and socially very people-oriented. I have the greatest admiration for this country and this has now become my new country and will remain so...for life. Jeg elsker Danmark...
