  • Please make sure you don't confuse kW and kWh - it's hard enough understanding amateurs who get it wrong, but as professionals it's vital to get it right and set a good example.

  • Thank you for the useful guidance in this video. Also worth noting in the darker winter months you can charge the battery over night using off-peak (night time rate) which is usually 50% cheaper

  • Looks a mess in the toilet but as you said only place to go might have been better to put the battery up higher away from the splash area of the toilet

  • Very nice feature in a toilet. Did your house insurance go up when you told the insurance company what you have in it now

  • Nice professional video there chaps. I agree with most here the location isn't great aesthetically but I can see why it was chosen over places such as the loft. I personally always avoid them. Any idea where the winch for the PV panel lifting is from? Would love to add one of those to the tool collection 💪

  • One thing solar installers need to make clear for every home owner is the difference between G.98 and G.99/G100 as when I was looking at solar, one thing that I didn’t understand was that even though I have 7KW panels and a G.98 hybrid inverter, I didn’t understand that the inverter will only allow 16A into the house load and export combined. Effectively the inverter is limited to 16A on the grid side in total and you use whatever you do in the house and the rest can go to the grid, but critically you are limited to 16A inside the house also, so while it’s nice to have the 7KW of panels as this means you generate more in the winter. In the summer you need to have batteries to charge for as long as possible while also exporting otherwise you are wasting a lot of generation potential.

    • Only issue with hybrid, I’m losing in conversion for an AC system but when the sun is shining I’ve got access to 8kW DC is more efficient and easier to do with G98 99 as your not even going to be near the limit think that’s why most installers push hybrid. Good points though

    • Unfortunately a lot of installers will try and get way with only fitting a 3.6kW inverter, as a G98 is much less paperwork (notification only) than a G99/G100 (apply for permission). Only later does the homeowner realise the implications, if at all.

  • What's the standard Cable size for solar power supply (from the solar panels to the charger?

    @multiskilledelectrician1@multiskilledelectrician13 ай бұрын
  • PS Garry could you have not run SWA cable to the garage? Maybe 5 core so you could have whole home backup in the future. Yeah I wouldn’t be too sure that you’re not going to max the solar out in summer as I got 3.2 from my 3.2kW array with the 3kW inverter that goes to 3.3kW outptut but maxes out at 4.4kW array so I’m not even clipping on the inverter hence seeing 3.2kW in the summer months.

  • Hi Guys I signed up with Essex solar last yr - my issue was installing a battery in the roof. They said this is fine and installed it with a fire alarm. Ok but As I’m less mobile but others are ok - is this a red flag?

    • Wouldn’t do it weight of battery lots of fire wood up there and gets really cold up there which LFP batteries don’t like to charge in, This is just based of my own research

      @DTech101@DTech1014 ай бұрын
  • I half agree and half disagree. I think charging from cheaper night tariffs is a must with batteries, regardless of it you have solar. Export prices now are such that it makes sense to export during the day and then charge the batteries at night. I have a zappi/eddi set up and have stopped the export due to this and only charge them at night, not allowing any solar to be diverted. Octopus go intelligent is 7.5p kWh at night with 15p kWh export. I’m currently on agile and make even more savings.

  • Not sure that the installation complies with current IEE wiring regulations. Water within reach of electrical supply @ less than one meter. As its a bathroom it is zoned, no 13amp outlets are allowed. Correct me if I'm wrong.

  • I would never have big lithium batteries in the house because of the fire hazard. I would put the solar battery in a shed and EV on the driveway.

  • Please note, if you have a full system installed, everything is vat free. So ensure you get as many batteries as possible when you order the system. If you just add a battery without panels, you have to pay 20% vat on top..... I have 8kw of panels, which are south facing. The only problem is National Grid only allow me to export 5.2kw, due to issues with power balancing in the network. Seems a shame, when I could be helping offset a lot more fossil fuel output.

  • I would never have these on my expensive roof. A near neighbour had a roof fault. All 16 panels had to come off as the roof leaks were getting worse. It's all done now . He paid £1200 for the work to the solar company as two panels were defective. Plus new roof. Don't know the cost , I suspect about £4K. appears the original solar install was the cause of his problems. Since then, another property has had to go through this. Puts one off you would think.

  • Putting these batteries inside dwellings is insane! If that enters thermal runaway your a gonner! I think it will take a few deaths and insurance pay-outs until peoples common sense kicks in and they put these high energy stores safely outside.

      @UpsideDownFork@UpsideDownFork4 ай бұрын
    • Lifepo4 and BMS’s have got a lot better and battery tech is continuing to advance like BYD blade battery can be punctured without self igniting, the Gold battery from Zeeker that’s been subjected to fire extreme cold and two staged crash tests and then used in a vehicle they are a lot safer. It’s now one of the fastest developing products like sodium Ion which should see prices fall and be even better from a safety standpoint and I don’t think Solar will be far behind on development.
